Hoping a New Thread may fix the posting issues.
Alonso set all kinds of records and was phenomenal at bayer leverkusen. He was only at madrid a wet weekend and that club is a basket case.
Keith Andrews is obviously a wind up I assume.
I cannot see Slot lasting medium/long term but I fully expect the club will let him finish out this season before anything potentially happens.
Whether we like it or not.
If anyone's holding it against Alonso that he was sacked by Madrid then we're never finding a good manager. How many managers are both:
Klopp was sacked after taking Dortmund to 7th place. I'd hope at the time no one at the club was thinking "can't get him, he's been sacked, Ronald Koeman's doing well at Southampton"
We have one fit out and out striker. He can't play 90 minutes every single game for fear he is injured again. He's only back from injury recently. People need to stop making sh1t up to suit their agenda.
We've been shite all season for the most part. A lot of it is on the manager, some on the players and some in recruitment. No need to add nonsense into it.
He should have been fired at half time.
This was the most pertinent question asked on here today. I asked it myself. Our best striker in a tough away game is benched. Weak management from Slot who was either trying to appease Salah, Gakpo.or both.
I hate Chelsea, but right now I'm sorry to say we need to be a bit Chelsea and sack the coach.
Alsono would at least know how to use Wirtz.
Alsono was poor at Real. Keith Andrews should be considered. He might bring Nathan and Caoimhen also
I would say, times up, don't wait around hoping things get better. End of the season at least, see how the other comps go and be done.
Im delighted to see it go so bad.
Alonso saying hes taking a break from managing so early in his career would suggest the job is there for him come end of the season.
Is that what city are paying him? Mental so
You will never walk alone, he needs to be backed and supported. Liverpool don’t just sack a manager after a few bad results. He is the second most successful Liverpool manager in the premier league era. The fans need to show him some respect and loyalty.
I think the 300k a week wages were a stumbling block
With your interest in Guehi last summer, why didnt ye push for him this window before city snatched him for 20million?
Adam Clery has done a really good analysis of Xabi at Madrid. His main conclusion is that his tactics were working (they did have their best start to a season in decades), but the Vinicius incident and the board's lack of support undid him. We knew that part anyway, but the tactical analysis is very interesting.
I've no doubt he's a special manager and he already has that connection to Liverpool. We would be mad not to jump at this opportunity.
Is he gone yet???
On the players being mentally fragile I think we are missing a team leader like Henderson or Gerrard who used to get stuck into tackles etc and berate teammates if they were not putting in a shift, our current midfielders seem like delicate petals in comparison to these men, the likes of grav, macca and slobo have plenty football but they are not hard bastards who u would love to have in the trenches with u, same as our defenders there's no carragher there to lambast them into doing better, gomez is a big boy but seriously he has to be carried off after he collides with keeper, WTF, how can he always be getting injured like, players too soft these days, I remember Gerrard saying that he never remembers Suarez being in the treatment room for anything, why? Cause he was a tough nut who treated every game like a war
Not a great look
I'm glad I thought it was tomorrow and didn't watch it
I still think the win away at Spurs was up there with one of the worst performances.
Hanging on against 9 men. That was the tipping point for me.
We have now dropped more points than in the whole of last season, with 15 games to go!
On top of that, 2-0 up (and relatively comfortable) against Marseille. He could have used Rio then.
Instead he brings Rio on while drawing 2-2 tonight and chasing the game, and needing something to happen.
This is pretty damning. Definitely shows the very poor mentality, poor game management and major complacency that has dogged our performances for a while now. A lot of blame should be placed on the players, but sooner or later it reflects on the manager. Klopp to be fair used to know how to close out games, Slot just doesn't seem to be able to do it.
Although I do feel Slot is taking all of the brunt for issues that are not just due to him, at a certain point it becomes untenable regardless of how much fault there is, like Frank at spurs, or Mourihno at united. There is basically zero chance of a new contract getting signed before summer for Slot, and with less than 12 months to go on his contract at that time it seems like is becoming a lame duck too. With Alonso available it could be a sliding doors moment for the club.
I think he’s just probably protecting them in a round about way. He only just got Endo back from injury and Cheisa got injured in warm up at Marseille. Robbo would have not had a good time against Greenwood and for whatever reason he doesn’t trust the other RB. And he gets grief when Szobo or Jones go to right back. He probably gets information from the sport science people to say who can play and how long for.
The squad isn’t strong enough imo. We should be doing a lot better but…I dunno…it’s just a mess. Top to bottom, a mess. Barring a miracle, no one is come out of this season looking well.
Ah yes, rule one of excuses, someone else's fault. So is this the old recruitment team excuse that Brendan Rogers used ? He hasn't a notion.
Ìf that's the case why doesn’t he spend and bring his own players in . Oh wait !
Quotes like that from Slot really f*ck me off. He barely rotates his squad, and he only made 2 subs on 80mins against Marseille, playing both full backs for 90mins.
Slot said on the BBC MOTD interview that he could see his players were tired because he is forced to use the same ones all the time. 🙄🤔
Can we bring in Xabi to manage and play midfield?
Yeah there is that trend of conceding between the 60th & 70th minutes this season, and then again from 80+ minutes, suggesting that fitness is an issue.
And to be fair, the players pre-season was completely blown away so it is a large mitigating factor this season. They were playing catch up for a while. Add in a few players moving to a new league etc and it's a mess overall.
You can keep the Edwards' and Hughes' of the world, but they should basically brief the manager and he makes the decision and has the final call.
Wow fair play for remembering that.
I just remember Heysel and finishing 2nd to a very good Everton team
Those were the days...
