    About normal for these cars.
I had a 2020 M3P. Got 4 years and near 46,000km from the Michelins on it.

Had a 2022 MYLR. Has 48,000km on it currently with the factory Michelins too.

Can top that on a heavier Model Y. Changed out at 45k kms on 3mm and I don't spare the kilowatts either.

Some tyres are just no use, and it seem to have little relevance to price.

I’ve a 2021 M3P and the current set of Pirelli pzero tyres have approx 35k km on them with plenty left…should comfortably make early-mid 40k subject to punctures of which Ive picked up a few recently.

I was looking around at tyre options and the Hankok ion flexclimate seem to get positive reviews. Anyone any experience of them?

I wouldn't have said so!! Mostly driving on the M1 prob helps.

I hate P Zero's. Hankook Evo's are good, Michelin Pilot Sports, Continental Conti Contacts also

Tesla are now offering 1 Year free supercharging for pre-configured Model 3 stock (up from 3 months SC). Folks who have recently booked might check to see if they will be upgraded.

Im not a fan of them either so will be trying something else next time around. I read a few reviews that the IONs are supposed to be comparable to the Cross Climate, slightly less effective in snow but better in the wet. Have been thinking about trying all seasons for a while so just wondering if anyone has any experience of running the IONs or other all season brand on the M3P

When I took the Michelins off my M3P, I out on the Hankook ion EV version. Found them very good and as grippy as the Michelins. I can’t comment on longevity as I sold it shortly after.

Hated the P-Zeros too. They scrubbed really badly on my MS (21” wheels).

I'd say they will need an incentive to move cars that are probably in stock for a while; the ones with the 1 year free Supercharging do not have the factory fitted indicator stalk or a forward grill camera, they also have extras many not willing to pay for such as white paint. (Was fine when free, but I personally would not pay for it.)

I am about an average mileage driver, or a little higher some years, but still only Supercharged once last year, so wouldn't be much of an incentive for me.

Agree I don’t like them either. I’ve never experienced the scrubbing/scrabbing with any other tyre brand previously. Initially, I thought there was something wrong with the car when it scrubbed so noticeably while driving around the house. I had a loaner MY LR recently on Hankooks and there was no evidence of scrubbing on same corner.

BTW what did you replace the MY with?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I never heard of scrubbing/crabbing until I got it on the MS. It’s common in a few Porsches too that use that particular size of tyre.

Got an M3 LR up in NI that I was planning to sell but it’s just doing everything I need it to so far. Miss the space of the Y though.

Just about to do a 492km return trip in about 15 mins to out beyond limerick so I’ll see how it fairs out.

I prefer grey but went for the white when it became the included option, a far superior multi coat versus the grey

Yea the MY is a very practical, roomy car and more comfortable to drive on rougher roads but the M3P is a far more sporty and enjoyable drive. Unless I needed the space it would be M3 all the time

I can’t drive down the motorway without it trying to veer off at ever slip road, it’s so bad I switch it off. It’s nearly caused an accident a couple of times.

I just drove Nass to Birdhill and AP was flawless. Other than lane changing obviously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,577 ✭✭✭creedp

I don’t experience that issue. It might initially move left approaching an exit but quickly corrects itself and continues on the driving lane.

What annoys me about it Is that if you indicate to move right to overtake and put any excess pressure on the steering wheel EAP disengages, You get used to it after a while but sometimes muscle memory takes over. Also because it reacts quite slowly it works fine on quiet motorways where you have plenty of time to complete an overtaking manoeuvre but with heavier traffic, which is most of the time, where you need to move quickly into an available space it’s too slow to react and just stays put.

Mine can’t get past the bird hill exit without veering off if coming from limerick direction, that’s even with the nav on heading for home. Last week it tried to go off for birdhill, I said i’ll see what it does, autopilot disengaged and I had to swing back on the motorway at a reduced sped as it slowed right down and didn’t know what to do.

Feck. Is it worth reporting in the app?

Just done Birdhill to Newcastle West there. Again, AP most of the trip.

    In other words news.
    2022 Model 3 LR AWD

    169,000km on the clock.

    Real world figures :

    244km Dublin to Newcastle West.
5 degrees for most of the trip.
climate set to auto at 20 degrees.
    Speed Limit the whole way.

    Used 61%

    Averaged 16.4 kWh/100km.

Would indicate real world range at motorway speeds of about 400km.

I'd log with Tesla, could be a faulty camera

You can recalibrate the cameras easily enough. That sorted out a problem I had last year on mine... it was seeing the speed limit signs at some exits, particularly at Kill, heading towards Naas. Car would slow right down to 60 if you weren't watching. Hasn't happened since and I'd be down that way fairly regularly.

That's great efficiency/range for a car with 170k km. For comparison, prior to battery failing, my 106k km 21 M3P was getting about 19/20 kWh/100km and approx 300km range at 110kph. I haven’t yet done any significant journey with the replacement battery but put in a 350km trip, approx 200km on motorway, into the navigation screen and it estimated it would use 87% battery giving a range of approx 402km which would be comparable to your LR.

Although the LR would be more efficient than the P, it’s likely to have suffered slightly more degradation with 170k km on the clock.

Sounds like a fault. When I have the motorway exit option selected, it won't try to exit until it reaches the correct exit. Even then, I still need to give it permission to change lanes. It needs me to hit the indicator, or it will keep on going.

Now with that said, I have only used that function once in Ireland and I was in the middle lane on the M1 when the car wanted permission to go into the left lane, presumably for the exit which was still 1km+ away. I disengaged and took over before I reached the exit.

Mine has a somewhat related issue, where sometimes it mis-reads the speed limit. A 60km/h road I travel on daily has a speed sign which the car often reads as 40, or even 30. On one occasion it took it as 80. Very annoying, as I have to disengage AP for the stretch of road. This happens in my 252 MY, but the same thing happened in my 222 M3 as frequently.

yea it done that in the outside lane of the motorway at that location, lucky wasn’t rear ended. Even gave me a strike for something it did.

    Hi.

I'm in Galway, looking to get a replacement 18" Aero alloy wheel. Telsa quoted €453 so obviously looking elsewhere. Found a guy on Donedeal but he's in Louth. Anyone know anywhere closer that sell them? I've checked adverts, ebay, local scrap places etc.

If the wheel is a reasonable price it's worth the drive or courier. Couriers are cheap these days not like years ago.

Only passed city west today heading west. Could have collected and met you on route.

Return trip used a bit more.
    491km total

    85.5 kWh used.
    17.4kwh/100km

That’s what you get when heading up to Dublin!

BTW did you ever take note of the % of battery used for the kWHs consumed as displayed on the trip meter? Grossing this figure up should give a rough estimate of total number of usable kWh at 100%.

I’m interested in this figure for other cars as prior to the battery crashing on my M3 this calculation would give a total of only 60kWHs available. The same calculation for the new battery give a usable 75kWh which could indicate the old battery had suffered significant degradation prior to crashing.
