with the exception of Arsenal we have played nobody

I don't disagree with that, but the question was whether anyone believes we can win silverware with him. I'm not going to throw in the towel in the cup competitions yet is what I'm saying.

Lots of poor teams around Europe. We're not winning the league but amazingly we're still in a decent position suggesting there's lots of poor teams in England too

Don't confuse this with me being happy about Slot or our season, I'm not. I'm just saying that I still think we're alive in 2 competitions - I've seen poor Liverpool sides outperform league form in cup knockout games enough times

We've played 4 of the top 8 teams in the CL standings and beaten them all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,547 ✭✭✭kingshankly

not in this “unbeaten run “ you are referring to we haven’t

The quality of the players we have (we had pretty much our first eleven out today, Bradley, Isak & Salah obviously injured and would be pushing for a start) - most of those draws are massively below what would be expected.

in the premiere league last 10 form table we are 7th with 17 points. Not getting CL footie would be a catastrophe financially.

If Chelsea and United can put a run together and this plod ball deteriorates further it’ll be a horror show.

Yea, we've played the 3 promoted teams too and we've beaten none of them....

Sure but we can't control the fixture list. When we've played them this season we've won. And we're now leaking less goals and not losing when not playing well

Missed his penalty too in penalties- what are the odds Salah and Szob both missing a pen today.

wonder if the lack of CB signings is related to a lack of trust in Slot? We are skating on thin ice if that’s the case for top 5.

You could argue that's the case but the next manager is going to want a CB in too

Hopefully Alonso is announced soon, I can't stick this absolute garbage every game. I think everyone is just waiting for it at this stage.

The defending Champions should not be drawing at home to all 3 promoted teams, no excuses.

At Real this season. Its not a million miles away from how Slot sets up Liverpool.

I've seen loads of comments from Liverpool fans that they hate Slot's, system and style, its too slow and pedestrian etc…But thats not how he wants them to play at all, yes he wants to slow it down on the initial turn over, but on the attack, he wants them moving the ball with huge pace and dragging the opposition around the park.

The problem is not Slot system! The problem is he cant implement it for whatever reason.

5 wins from our last 17 PL games, from what I can see the last time we went on a run that bad was Rodgers first 17 games in charge back in 2012

From what I saw of BL it was possession based build ups with fast wing backs including Frimpong doing most damage.

I’d love to know what Slots style of play is.

No, I think we're now seeing what he is.

You give a manager a bit of time to get it right to see if he can imprint his style (because it doesn't happen inmediately). By the same token, this can work negatively. It took until March for the team to become more cautious and lacking in intensity. For the first 6 months, the team was running on the fumes of intensity created by Klopp. Once that went, the intensity went. The quick counters disappeared.

This is what Slot wants his team to be like. He will look at the first 70 minutes of that game and think we were dominant because we held the ball for large periods, won it back well in middle areas of ths pitch, calmed the game, and spent the game 'probing'.

It's absolute nonsense. He's playing conservative, safe, shíte football, it's been going on for months, and it's fúcking unacceptable.

I don't think Real is the best reference point for Alonso, considering he had one hand tied behind his back the whole time. He clearly didn't have full authority over who plays, and when he made a perfectly reasonable substitution in the match against Barca all hell broke loose. Liverpool is a very different prospect.

Watching some of the Liverpool based YouTube channels and the match going fans are fed up it seems. There will be more analysis on Monday which will be interesting to see

At this point if he makes the summer I will be surprised.

Really doubtful of CL football next season, I had thought we'd get it a few weeks ago as even after our disastrous first half to the season we were still somehow fourth and the other teams were showing no signs of form either, but, since then both Chelsea and United have changed manager and look to be in better shape now, plus half the league is now within a couple of points, while we are struggling to pick up points.

To put it in context we have 21 points from our last 17 game, that's lower half form and won't keep us in the top 5, added to that performances have been terrible in general- I didn't see today's game, seems we had a decent performance, but, result is disastrous. Slot now is essentially an interim manager, won't be here next season, might make it to the end of season if we stay in contention for top 4.

Alonso is available, we shouldn't let the opportunity of getting him pass as lots of teams are looking for managers come the summer, even if he doesn't take over until the summer, we should at least reach out to him and agree a deal with him, he is the obvious replacement and our best chance to get back on track next season.

Feels like the job is too big for Slot. There a lack of coherence in how we play. He's tried to impose a sort of hybrid style of Pep and Klopp with both failing. Possession football that goes nowhere mixed with occasional half hearted pressing that's fails because either the players can't do it or they haven't been coached properly. Who knows.

I'm not suggesting Alonso is a silver bullet, I only mentioned him as an example of a potential manager who is available now and if the club want him they may need to act. But maybe he has a more clearly defined idea of how to play and can communicate it better and instill more belief in players. I don't know.

The last thing I want to see is Slot sacked now just for Stevie to come in as interim.

Surly he can't last beyond the summer - especially now with Alonso sitting at home tending to the begonias in his garden.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,221 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Alonso seems like the best option and he's available right now, by summer there'll be half a dozen teams trying to sign him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,619 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

I think this point is key.

If the club want him, they need to act fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,619 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

I'm hoping for Ancellotti tbh. Pipe dream maybe. Or Enrique.

I'm not convinced Alonso is any better than Slot. He may be worse.

Seen this mentioned abit but absolutely no way the club holds on to a manager if the trust is so broken they won’t sign players because of him.

Slot is only a coach so this signings strategy is purely Hughes and Edwards . It’s just not the clubs style to sign players with a very short term view. They’ll wait to see how Leoni progresses, Gomez and Konate futures before as final decision as frustrating as it sounds . It’s mental we won’t consider a loan given tha CL football is seriously at stake
