I have put €50 into crypto per month for the last year. But looking at the winnings of OP, I wonder would prize-bonds be a better bet

First win of 2026, 1 x €75 today. New bond numbers commence BKC630

€50k gone to Cork. 12no. of the 20no. €1,000 prizes gone to Dublin.

2 x €75 for me, email sent at 13:05. The system did not connect them so I will get 2 letters with my new bonds.

Newest bond to win today, BKC289551.

Date of Issue Prize Bond Range Units  Value

    16/01/2026 BKC670389 - BKC670400 12 €75.00

    16/01/2026 BKC667665 - BKC667676 12 €75.00

Only 3 winners in America today possibly an all time low, and very likely 2 to the same person. Last week they got 14. 2 winners in Denmark, which rarely gets prizes.

Crypto and (Prize) Bonds are very difference classes of asset/investment, with very different return potential.

Crypto offers the possibility of spectacular profits, but also the possibility of spectacular losses. It offers no capital security, meaning that you could loose all of your investment. Bonds in general offer the possibility of modest and predictable returns and capital security, and in the case of prize bonds also offer the possibility of a large win (though this is a very remote possibility).

If you have a large investment in prize bonds you can currently expect a return in the region of .77% approx. with an outside chance of a large prize. If you have a small investment (such as accumulating a holding by investing €50 per month) you are unlikely (unless very lucky) to see any return(prizes). This is more like using it as a savings scheme, with an entry in the Lotto, but you don't loose the price of a ticket every week.

Good luck if you decide to buy prize bonds.

Personally if I could I'd invest more in UK Premium Bonds. You don't need a UK address but you do need a UK Stirling bank account.

Wake me up when it's all over.

There is an additional issue with Premium Bonds for those who are investing/operating in Euro. The currency exchange risk shouldn't be ignored and it could well eliminate any gains. Also bear in mind that the investment ceiling is low compared to prize bonds, being a max of GBP 50k.

Do you have any experience of them yourself? Despite warnings here ;-) my money will probably stay in the UK where the rates are generally higher than Ireland.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Ask About Money have redesigned their Best Buys pages since I last looked. Those BankInter (previously called Avant Money, before that MBNA) products are open to the first 1,500 applicants. I have my credit card with them and they sent me a message recently.

No not yet,but I do have a fair wedge with Revolut Instant access (1.5% gross-1% nett) which would be a similar model I assume and I find excellent.Transfers are very clean and quick.

I was moderately active here going back a few months, and I made the decision to purchase some bonds. But ultimately I decided to have a go at investing instead. The money I would have diverted into bonds went into my stocks/shares instead. It was at €4500+/-. I had some weeks where it was up €50,90,€100. But (without getting political) once behind a podium certain events would undo it and drop it from +100 to -20 in a day. It became a thing I almost obsessed over. The market opens and i get alerts, this is up that is down and so on. And it genuinely began to haunt me. I’m not the investing type. I cashed it out today after mulling it over in detail on January first. Investing is not for me. I’m not the type for it. I cashed out today with a loss of just €59.85 over my time.

I’m going to put the money back into prize bonds, allowing myself atleast 90 days to get my financial gears back spinning.

I am usually quite skeptical of these new banking things I see, perhaps I’m just the type to not take instagram and YouTube adds overly seriously. I’d be interested to see reports of people that use it.

    This was a reply to another user mentioning MoCo;

I had 30k invested in prize bonds for a couple of years. Won 50 euro twice. What a waste of time. I took it out and put it into my mortgage account instead

I think this is a very interesting, fair and honest post. Well done on your analysis and finding out what is right for you and thanks for sharing. A lot of people find watching the daily moves in their market investments almost hypnotic, with elation on the good days and heart sinking on the poor ones. I have a wide spread of assets in my portfolio, and while I have a lot in cash and bonds, I also have money in the market. But that is money that I won't need for a long time, and so I know that I can weather any normal dips and drops and bide my time while stocks recover. I can put it out of my mind and sleep at night. I wouldn't go near the markets with any money that I was likely to need in the next 5 years. You'd go nuts watching the value going up and down as the markets respond to whatever trump posts while sitting on the throne for his 5am bowel movement.

€150 (2 x €75) for me again today. One of the winning bonds was from the same batch as one of last week's winners, just 211 numbers apart. And the other winner today was one of the bonds issued for last week's prize reinvestment (BKD694xxx) !!

Monthly €500k gone to Dublin and weekly €50k gone to Kerry. Dublin took 9no. of the 20no. €1,000 prizes.

Nothing for me today. Monaghan the lowest number of winners, nearly always Leitrim or Longford. 6 winners in Fermanagh, 3 to the same person. Those bonds are worth €13,750.

January count, the same 10 million bonds BJQ to BJZ in each of the 5 draws. Not counting €500 to BJT 30th.

Friday 02. 116 prizes. Highest BJZ 13. Lowest BJS 7.

    Friday 09. 111. BJU 14. BJQ 7.

    Friday 16. 129. BJQ 18. BJS 8.

    Friday 23. 115. BJV 18. BJW 2.

    Friday 30. 124. BJV 16. BJU 8.

    Highest overall BJV 72 (11,13,14,18,16). Lowest BJS 47 (7,12,8,11,9).

    Starting BJQ. 63,59,47,65,60,72,52,57,65,55. Average 59.5.

    50 million bonds won 595 prizes, average per million 11.9. x 52 x €75 = €46,410. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck = €742.56. Nearest to 10 x €75.

Irish Prize Bonds return is terrible.

The prize fund rate is currently just 1.00%

For comparison, the UK equivalent, Premium Bonds, is currently 3.6%.
