Anyone else find that young lad Kev constantly sniffling a bit annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15 clangers3

Kev trying to hide his very posh accent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,628 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I've noticed that. He's clearly a Dublin 4 head trying to pass himself off as an inner city type (and not doing a great job).

Folk have previously asked on this thread if Leo is the worst actor onFair city…even lreland. I personally think Greg is the new worst actor on FC. Talk about one dimensional, boring, bland, insipid and invisible….

Greg would surely know he's getting tipsy and would stop drinking? TY students writing the script again!

Plus it would taste rancid with a load of Vodka and a tiny bit of orange juice 🤮 odd choice of mixer too as already said. Greg would be a pint man surely! So definitely written by TY students.

Yeah Paul called it a wine bar the other day. Not sure I've ever heard of a wine bar that serves fry ups. Most of them usually don't open until evening.

Paul serving the customers is also very unrealistic. He's supposed to be the host or Maitre D - it's meant to be the waiter or waitress who brings food to the tables and accepts payment etc.

Plus Greg should know at this stage never ever to trust Ian ….. it should be very obvious to him that Ian is a dangerous, devious, horrible person ……

Ian certainly has potential ….. he is like that very abusive male nurse who got killed a few years back and was married to Mairead ….. Will Casey was his name …..

Mick was a great character ….. Like others said I think FC did gangland better then …. and FC was better then …. Billy Meehan was great …. so was Sylvester Garrigan ….. Mick was always there to sort out whatever needed sorting for these gangsters ….. usually in a pragmatic way ….. unlike Billy and a few others like that Mick also was not all bad and had a kinder side ….. certainly Mick should have returned into it …..

The current criminals in it are a lot less convincing ….. Kev is just low rent problem child ….. same goes for Steo plus he is basically a good person at the back of it …… ditto with Lorcan Jr ….. JJ is no major criminal and is more a Paul Brennan in a bookies …… and speaking of Paul: he ain't a gangster either …. a chancer yes and good in that role ….. but not a gangster!

The last really good FC episodes to date were the ones with Damien in jail ….. with some of the last great FC criminals namely Cathal and Ciaran ….. more of this needs to be done ….. these in or out of prison ….. Ciaran was not a drug dealer/gangster but going on the way he acts in the prison would be a great enforcer ….. plus it would be his only post prison employment !! …

Tbf to the TY scriptwriters, both my local wine bars serve breakfast!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,437 ✭✭✭littlevillage

In Ireland, just like every bar has to serve Guinness, every restaurant has to serve a fry up*

*This maybe a gross generalisation, but when every second or third customer asks for something, you either put it on the menu or you close up shop.

Whats even more amazing is that Vinos serves food at all, considering it has no kitchen or chef!

Most times its only Paul working there.

TBH I don't know what kind of character they want JJ Nash to be ….. they bring him in as Carol's latest love interest …. at first a rival to the former priest guy who conveniently disappeared ….. usually Carol's love interests are dodgy as hell ….. JJ is Carol's most serious romance since Robbie ….. and so far is a version of him rather than a Meehan or a Garrigan …. a borderline businessman who has some dodgy dealings ……

Other notables with Carol were the Louis Walsh type showbiz promoter Shay Houlihan with the band Chloe & Supernova ….. dodgy solicitor Anthony Farrell and the rather bland Dan Keating …..

What they turn JJ into is anyone's guess ….. so he knew Billy Meehan and others in that world? He was a pal of Mick's? He launders money ….. But is he violent? Is he a bigger criminal than we are lead to believe? Is he gonna get a makeover from as you say dodgy rural businessman type to Love/Hate or Billy style gangster by the writers?? …. let's wait and see …..

Caught up a bit last night- unloading the stolen wine on the main Street in broad daylight and then Starsky and Hutch turn up 30 seconds later to arrest everyone. Embarrassing cringeworthy stuff as ever!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,456 ✭✭✭threetrees

The new gangsters are not a patch on Billy Meehan, Uncle Mick (with a finger chopped off in a gangland punishment I think?), Sylvester Garrigan, Goo Eyes, Paddy, Decco and Zumo Bishop.

The most gangstery person in it is either Steo or Ali, except she's gone back to England wearing her halo.

Carol will always be a gangster's moll, but not with JJ. They don't suit each other at all.

my god… Greg is a right twit.

Greg is so gormless, no personality and stays silent when he should be standing up for himself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,628 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Carol's popularity with men is hard to fathom. She's an aggressive and bad tempered former gangster's moll - you would have thought she would be struggling to find a boyfriend of any description, rather than having a string of man friends.

JJ and her seem odd together. One could nearly imagine him with someone like Emma or Mairead.

This is true ….. Carol must have had numerous men down the years ….. most of them early on were gangsters as well as dodgy solicitor Anthony Farrell ….. and dodgy Louis Walsh wannabe Shay Houlihan …..

Carol became a successful businesswoman …. likely on the proceeds of the crime of Billy and Sylvester ….. and became respectable as a pub owner and taxi owner ….. wasn't she even Mayor for a time IIRC?? …. but indeed remained aggressive and bad tempered ….. cannot imagine a businessperson in real life in a tight knit community who needs the business of locals go on like that!! …..

JJ seems odd with her ….. he looks a lot older than her ….. but then again Carol must be pushing 60 defo 55 at this stage as she is in it for years and was no youngster when she was with Billy …… but apart from age I agree he'd be more of an Emma or Mairead type ….. he is also closer to a Tommy or Con than he is a Billy ….. but then again Sylvester was also very pleasant and ordinary when with Carol but dangerous when dealing with other gangsters ……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,187 ✭✭✭lumphammer2

Agree all these were much better …… Mick was told to chop off his finger by Sylvester IIRC ….. it came from the Japanese Yakuza ….. there was a Miami Vice episode with same in it featuring them …..

JJ is too soft to be a real gangster ….. he is more a Robbie #2 than a Billy #2 ….. but who knows what makeovers of characters they will do ??? ….. remember Decco was turned from the most confrontational of the Bishops to the most docile ….. and then paired with the drippy Kerry Ann ….. who later herself was turned from harmless boring hairdresser to violent murderer …… a status that just did not suit her character at all TBH! …..

Though not a gangster the one current character with potential to be a real evil one is Ian …..

Can we petition the writers /producers to give the RAM one final fling? maybe with a young filly this time

Then send him off to Auntie Kitty down in Kilkenny forever.

Right now he's slowly turning into Bella/Cass, its hard to watch.

I don’t think they’d repeat that kind of scene on FC now; was quite inhumane!

I wonder will tommy run away from Emma, he looked uneasy when she was talking about getting serious.

Maybe liz mcD might be a new love interest for him?

But unfortunately they are bringing her in as Gwen's mother which means lots more Gwen scenes. I find her painful to watch

Yes, didn't she have a one night stand with JJ that kicked off their 'relationship'? Met him at the bar at the Ballantine if I remember correctly.
