Facial expressions tell a lot. The clearest on I saw for a long, long time re current administration actually .concerns Rubio. When Trump met with the oil company executives the other day he suddenly got up - and out of the blue- and pivoted 180 degrees to look out the big closed glass door where the site of his BIG BALLROOM idea is being developed. He passes some very favourable comments about it eg the biggest, brightest, shinyest!, etc, building of its type in the UNIVERSE or words to that effect

Just look at Rubio’s facial expression while all of the above was going on. It was sullen, dour, expressionless, etc, etc, etc. it is drawn into even more sharp focus when you see the expressions of the other faces - smiling , positive/ supporting expressions and I think that I heard a few Hooplas and other types of positive grunts

WELL WORTH WATCHING IF YOU ARE INTO FACIAL EXPRESSIONS.

A must see for anyone doing a Ph. D in facial expressions !!!!!!!!

Rubio is just another bootlicker but I guess he may get what he ultimately wants, a Cuban government collapse, if the USA can block Venezualan oil to them.

And this is the gent who was replaced as U.K Ambassador to the U.S because of his relationship with Epstein. Pfff….

Cuba is fucked anyway. That will tip them over the edge.

Young people are leaving in the their droves. Their population is nose diving. Deaths per year is more than births per year for a number of years now.

Why do anything when your opponent is gutting himself and his own country's relationships with Greenland, Denmark, and harming the NATO union both China and Russia have a dislike for into the bargain? Trump is essentially going "drill baby drill" on a island friendly to the U.S where it has existing defence agreement bases.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that they have general powers of arrest and detention. Ice do not. They have those powers in compliance with very specific circumstances. All persons in the country whether illegal or not have the same rights in relation to their personal freedoms. If a person is arrested they are entitled by law to have their rights read to them. They are entitled to challenge their detention in a court of law. They are entitled to a lawyer to represent them. Just because Ice and the DHS are ignoring the laws does not negate them.

To be fair, the Telegraph had an article saying the same about the UK's death rate exceeding the birth rate.

I was in Cuba in 2018. Not somewhere I'd want to live.

On what grounds could Ms. Good have been 'arrested' and taken into custody by ICE? She was sitting safely in her car with her seatbelt on, both her hands were visible to the killer agent (i.e. no sign she was armed), other cars were able to drive around her and proceed up the road, she was a US citizen and not a target for ICE. What law was she breaking?

The UK and Ireland's birth rate is falling off a cliff. It's more of a slow burner.

Cubas is a much bigger problem due to massive immigration of young people.

I have not pushed such a line.

I have pushed a line that if an officer is reasonably afraid for his safety he is legally justified in shooting. A very significant difference. I have also not said a thing about Ms Good except that her decision to accelerate towards the officer was the wrong one and I have no quarrel with the prevailing attitude here about Trump’s comments about her.

Your position fails under the premise that they were not conducting an immigration enforcement operation which if we go by your own description of “trawling”, that’s what they were doing. (I don’t know enough about what they were actually doing to say, but if they’re on duty, driving official vehicles, and looking for people to deport, that seems like it meets the criterion of “is performing duties relating to the enforcement of the immigration laws at the time”.) Your position may also fail under other analysis, but there is no need to undertake such.

Let’s even take worst case scenario that the killer/shooter at that moment believed he was in danger. His best way to avoid it was to immediately move away. But he didn’t. He drew his gun and shot a woman to death.

I am almost sure that in his head at that moment it was “eff this bitch.” And this anger led him to execute her. He absolutely knew what he was doing, why he was doing it, and how he was not in real danger!!

We witnessed a cold blooded unnecessary execution by a person in a position of power:responsibility, and a person part of a state!!! Supposedly to carry out work for that state for the good of that state!!

Exactly what crime was she suspected for, that inspired the ICE agent to attempt to arrest her?

Hiding stuffed toys in the glovebox?

Police in the US will absolutely shoot you if you drive your vehicle at or indeed near them especially when theyre instructing you to vacate the vehicle.

Its a wild country but thats how its always been. If you're born and raised there you should know this. So to avoid getting shot you should obey their instructions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,635 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

The 'self defence' argument goes right out the window when we see he reached for his gun before the car even started to move and fires the first shot perhaps one second after the car begins to move forward.

It was nothing like a scenario where an agent is standing on a street and sees a car coming directly towards him at 70/80mph and makes a snap decision the driver is attempting to mow him down and opens fire.

The fools in the US thought they won the cold war in 1989. Just like their mission accomplished nonsense in Iraq, its proved completely false. Russia played the long game and won hands down.

He still won't beat the European alliance should he chance his arm but he's certainly put an end to the US as the major world power. The US is very limited without its allies. The Australians and Japanese are taking notes and even the South Koreans will be looking for tighter ties to Europe.

Their powers are only in respect of very specific circumstances. They do not have powers to stop and detain random civilians. They do not have powers to go door to door and search for illegals. They do not have powers to stop and search cars at a checkpoint. They have powers to stop a car containing known illegals under a warrant or suspected illegals that have already been part of an investigation.

The retort to that from the Trump heads is they suspect everyone of being illegal and you need to prove otherwise. Sometimes that proof is not enough as you are interned.

Thats what hes really there for. Its his pet project and he'll put up with the other stuff so long as he gets regime change in Cuba and hopefully another US holiday destination.

The killer shot her to death from the side of the vehicle when there was zero threat to him.

There is no "self defence" going on here. The woman was no danger to him or anyone else.

The logical thing to do was to let her drive away, take her plate number and follow up. If there is actually anything at all to follow up on, which there really wasn't as she wasn't breaking any laws.

If someone cannot react in a calm and logical manner to what Mrs. Good was doing in that moment, then they should not be allowed to carry a lethal weapon of any kind. What Ross showed was that he has no discipline or self control and, absolutely, shouldn't be in a position where he could be a danger to others. Especially those he has a predisposed disrespect for.

    "Fucking bitch" indeed.

In a normal society, he'd be facing a trial for his ill-disciplined conduct at the very least.

Also, the woman did nothing to escalate the situation, the other ICE offer did that by storming over shouting get the **** out of the car and trying to forcibly remove her before she could reply. In a situation like that, panic is a normal response from a civilian. Trained officers should be looking to reduce the risk of panic.

If you are happy that was occurred was legal then you really should be unhappy with the law. It is shocking that people can observe 2 officers acting so comprehensively unprofessional, to view a situation they are supposed to be in control of ending with 3 bullets to the face of a US citizen who did absolutely nothing to stop them in the course of their duties, and think “well, they have the legal right to do that” and not think that there’s something deeply wrong with that.

They are not police. They do not have the powers of the police. They have no right to instruct anyone to anything except illegals on foot of warrants or illegals having been investigated.

Illegality seems to be the point.Intimidation of the citizenry.

How can America recover from this Trump presidency. The shooting is an open and shut case of murder no doubt in my mind. We can discuss the conduct of ICE and there may be different opinions but in this particular incident, an officer wa pissed off at a woman and shot her dead although his life was not in any danger nor was anyone else's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,834 ✭✭✭joe40

On the whole Greenland thing he has explicitly threatened the use of force against an ally. Even if there is a resolution to this the threat alone has surely broken all trust. How can America be trusted as an ally. Imagine a marriage where a husband threats violence against his wife ( or vice versa). It doesn't matter if violence occurs the threat alone is enough to destroy all trust.

If Germany and Japan are anything to go by, it'll be through national catastrophe. I used to think that competent government was the answer to fascism but now I think it needs to be something more radical. Today's model of corporate capitalism isn't producing growth and living standards have either stagnated or declined. If you don't cut populism off at the source, we see what's happening in the US right now.

This isn't away. There needs to be radical change to break the chokehold that corporations have over American government and to improve things for the American working classes. Sadly, they keep voting for the party that wants to take even more from them.

*Man was healthy when apprehended by ICE

These ICE detention centres are probably like Abu Ghraibs.

We've seen how they treat children at these facilities, after separating them from their parents.
