Despite all drill baby drill nonsense and climate change is a hoax there are parts of the admin I'm sure looking 50 years down the road when alot of Greenland might be ice free year round, might also be a refuge for the parts of the US that may be too hot to be habitable.

WH website has a whitewash of January 6 2021, presenting it as a peaceful protest provoked by the police.

Some of those involved have gone on to commit more crimes. Christopher Moynihan is serving life for death threats to Hakeem Jeffries according to CNN.

What % of this do you think he will siphon off for himself?

at this stage , the arrival of the lizard people would not surprise anyone.

There is also a very deliberate program of (dis) information going on . Recently we are hearing the introduction of the ‘hemisphere’ - rather than USA . Rubio, Miller and several other lower level GOPers all using the same term and similar arguments.

This might indicate that this whole crazy zone is more about global commercial interests - and the rise of China as the dominant global commercial force. Venezuela is about the oil reserves which Chavez/Maduro had been ceded to China interests over the last 25 years. This is western capitalist interests operating the levels of power using Trump/GOP/mAGA as the battering ram

Ireland is an island of strategic interest. I have never had any doubt about that. It's only sad that Ireland constantly underfunds any military initiative in hopes of the luck of the Irish…

In terms of a deterrent. If the US actually moves to annex Greenland, NATO is finished. The EU will need to implement the digital markets act. Then Macron and Starmer need to issue a joint statement threatening nuclear war with the US. It's the only deterrent we have that's powerful enough to make them back off.

Trump sees Europe as weak, our military is indeed weak and chronically under invested in.

What else does Europe have remaining? Nukes, Probably around 5-600 between UK and France.

Good article from bbc . Europe seen as weak and EU not just NATO at stake. Sounds hyperbolic but hard to disagree.

Starmer and Macron are dead men walking, almost certain Farage and the Le Pen party will be in soon enough and join up with Trump.

Anyone here believe for one f**king second that he won't use this to drive down the price of petrol at home (while skimming some off the top for himself) and then "justify" the operation that way to his base?

The UK cannot do that as they do not possess the capability of using 'their' nuclear weapons without the US

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,210 ✭✭✭✭Timberrrrrrrr

This is false, the UK has full independence to use thier Nukes, they do not need the US for this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭Iecrawfc

Surely Farage will be hammered for his close links with Trump and general pro-russian stance, hes also been proved woefullywrong about the EU and participation in a European defence force, are the Brits that stupid that they'd give him the keys to No. 10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,496 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

    It's a bit more complicated.

Yes, the UK owns the nukes as per the Polaris Sales Agreement but they pay the US to maintain them.

If the US would pull support it would be **** for the UK, but they would still be able to operate their nukes. For example a widely spread myth is that they depend on GSP so if the US shuts that off then the nukes are useless, which is simply wrong. Unless the yanks can shut off the stars themselves Trident (which uses astro inertial guidance) can still be used.

Getting a bit depressing now. Some legalistic expert on Morning Ireland earlier basically stated that rules based order is practically destroyed. ICJ is impotent in relation to the US, the UN is impotent due to the US veto, it will cause NATO to collapse due to Article 5 having to be invoked and the doomsday scenario of Trump linking future Ukraine defence with his demands for Greenland.

In his opinion these problems can only be resolved by sane heads taking control back home in the US.

    I won't hold my breath.

I actually believe we either have to hope for a Democrat massive win in the midterms or for Trump to pass away, otherwise it will just get worse.

Trump passing away is not going to change the course of what's happening.

As the last year has unfolded, something that's really struck me - reinforced in this last week by Hegseth's "don't mess with 'Mercia" pronouncements - is just how perfectly aligned are the behaviour and attitudes of the Russian and American regimes.

But the US regime doesn't seem to have taken any account of how Putin's Ukrainian adventure turned to shyte in such a spectacular way. The US was humbled in Vietnam by a peasant resistance movement and they were driven out of Afghanistan by a religious resistance movement.

There seems to be no acknowledgement by the Trump administration that there is (and always has been) a simmering anti-American sentiment across Europe and around the world. One ill-judged Putinesque move could realistically be the catalyst that brings that out into the open, with serious repercussions for anyone displaying the stars-and-stripes.

I believe it it will. He's the glue that holds MAGA together and even that is already starting to crumble if you look at the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Once he dies MAGA will likely fracture in infighting, as is normal for fascist regimes when the leader dies. Vance is a pussy and the likes of Stephen Miller will slink back into the swamp they crawled out from while Rubio will try to whitewash his image.

    Imagine he drank alcohol.

My grandmother always said never trust a teetotaller. If you want to know what someone is really like, get a few drinks into them.

Was she an election denier? Did she incite a riot at the capital on January 6th? No, but you’re mentioning her because your argument holds as much weight as a wet paper bag.

I think it's very evident what Trump is like. No alcohol is required.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,402 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

She didnt incite a riot and either did Trump.

    Incite

to encourage someone to do or feel something unpleasant or violent:

He literally said no violence, peacefully.

The riot was going to happen regardless. It couldve been a lot worse. The Proud Boys and Oath Keeper losers had already planted pipe bombs and the like and were calling for violence immeditely after the election.

Trump is entitled to claim the election was rigged. Even though its clearly idiotic chat from a moron. Its was wildy irresponsible. That doesnt mean he "incited a riot".

You’re trying to gaslight yourself with this, how sad.

His presence there, telling them the election was stolen, the crowd were there with pepper spray and we know the rest.

What you believe doesn’t change the fact. He was there to stop the election result being confirmed, and inciting violence was his method.

Will you give us a quote now from the pope or something to try distract again?

Mark Kellys video having a pop at Trump is worth a watch.

He isn’t backing down on this.
