Great first half between BG and Martins. Martins suffocating the BG running game more than any team this year. Both defences on top, every score hard earned. Poor call by Stack on what should have been either a Martins penalty or a goal.

What are you talking about. This is absolute rubbish. 10 points in 30 mins. Both teams overplaying the ball, double sweepers being played. Ballygunner at the ball on there own 45 and it ended up being passed back to the goalie.

In a game that is this hard to earn a point in that disallowed goal could be a massive swing. How was it not a penalty beforehand though, what advantage was there to be played when the forward was on the ground?? Sean Stack has been out of his depth for a long time now.

St. Martins denied a perfectly good goal, could this prove critical by full time whistle?

this game proves that hurling doesn't have to be high scoring to be scintillating

Ballygunner have it now. Martins are gassed.

Pity the rule about stopping a certain goal chance is not in the club game. Gunner defender with a rugby tackle inside the 14m line

A few key decisions went against Martins at key times. Lads were sent off for less in the rugby this Autumn.

If you can't appreciate the quality of the defending and the effort expended, then i can't help you. Not everything is about 40 score games. There was very few soft scores missed in the first half. There were some superb scores from distance.

The effort Martins put in is showing now. They couldn't keep it going.

"I had no more to give, mentally or physically" (Pauric Mahony)

Bit of a hypocrite - he's doing very well today.

I appreciate good defending, especially when it's 1v1. I agree with the poster above though, this is one of the poorest club semi finals in a while. You'd have to appreciate the athleticism and tactical systems on show, but not a very good advertisement for the game of hurling IMO.

Ballygunner getting all the referee breaks for years in munster also , opposition players getting red cards in error, ballygunner players getting yellow for dreadful high tackles

Agreed. I found the first half in particular enthralling. The intensity and hits as well as the close control and passing was top class.

Full back basically kicked it out of his hand into the net in the process of fouling him. It was either a peno or a goal. Of course the dopey umpires wanted nothing to do with it.

i though stack was out of his depth at IC, but he didn't appear up to club today. Blantant fouls on both sides just ignored. Games are being reffed on emotions. Called a foul on JOC for as clean a shoulder as you'll ever see then ignores multiple barging incidents.

First 30mins was the best sport on TV this weekend. 2nd fell away considerably

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭supernova5

no, forward was trying to flick the ball, it went lateral or slightly backwards and the defender was racing toward goal and ball hit his leg and flew into the net, that is an own goal by any standards and in any sport, major f**k by the ref and the umpires who should have seen it

I did not see what happened on the live coverage. Nor did the commentators. It was only when the VAR style slow motion was shown that it became clear. In the analysis later they suggested there should be VAR in hurling. The officials can only rule on what they see, and the freeze frame is superior to the human eye. As has often been proved by VAR in soccer.

I would concur about the limitations of the human eye in an incident like this vs slow motion cameras. I have often stood in as an umpire for club games in hurling and incidents like that happen in the blink of an eye that it can be hard to spot.

Hard to blame the officials when us watching on TV weren't sure if it was a legitimate goal or not

Referee yes but no excuse for the umpires. Although you could question the referees use of the umpires.

I'd still say it was hard to see in real time but I do agree with you that it should have been a penalty.

Daithi Hayes was quite gracious in defeat in fairness to him.

Would excuse missing the goal, but very poor not to give the penalty.

Happens way too often when a forward gets goal side and the defender is allowed to get hands around him and nothing given.

Not a good way to end the All-Ireland Intermediate semi-final between Ghaeltacht and Sallins. Similar happened with Dingle and Finbarrs recently something the FRC will need to look at.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,987 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Terrible. 2 points is a ridiculous punishment for the offence whatever about the 50 metre advance.

Boden I would argue are not even the best club in Dublin on paper. But Jayus they are functional. Every player works like mad. Even if they fall behind they manage to stay in games. Chipping away. Constant workrate. Could hardly call them flashy. Yet here they are.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Outstanding comeback by Dingle - they never know when they are beaten..Geaney with a super 2 pointer to tie it up.1-15 scored by them in the second half.

    ET to come.

That 2nd half was incredible. What a game. Dingle kicking long caused real problems.

Tom O'Sullivan's kicking in the second half was nothing short of superb.
