The criticism being that when in need of a goal the manager took off a defensive minded player for an attack minded one? That's a new one from United fans now tbh.

Risk, take a chance, throw on the youth etc.could have sworn that was an ethos.

The Everton game nearly finished me off, I wasn't right for about a week after that.

Where is the “nuance” in the past 8 games where the exact same failings have been present in each one.

“Nuance” is the new thread word to cover up any ability to critically analyse a game yet still try to cling to your shibboleths

The excuse about absent players is becoming a bit too obvious. This was the same lifeless type of display we saw vs Everon, West Ham and other games too…when we had a near fully fit squad.

Plus Wolves were very much depleted themselves anyway.

Terrible end to the year. I don't look forward to Leeds away with much pleasure

So you think taking Ugarte off, and leaving Casemiro on, was a good move?

We lost all sense of shape and balance when Ugarte went off because he can at the very least move around the pitch.

I'd say your inability to analyse a game of football is neither here nor there tbh. Though possibly does explain why in your head it's everything is awesome or everything is ****.

Almost as if our injuries and other missing players does make a difference…?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,071 ✭✭✭crusd

That is a ludicrous position. Wolves were missing a load of players too. And are the worst side in the history of the PL

You might want to learn what gane state is, we were winning against Newcastle and were holding on, we were pushing for a winner via wolves it's fairly simple.

Ugarte was never going to do anything to get us a goal at least casamerio is a threat for set pieces and whatever about what Neville was saying wolves created very little second half outside of the Lemmens save

Bring in Southgate now and be done with it

That is understandable but look at the lineups against Everton, West Ham and Bournemouth

Nothing really to add just my frustration.

Terrible result. What makes it worse is that 90% of teams will get the 3 points and we have now played Wolves twice unlike most teams.

Tonight is just not acceptable. Finger really points at the one obvious man.

I have tried and tried to give him benefit of doubt time and again but tonight is first night if he got the p45 I would not be upset.

And deservedly so, first half played at walking pace, this fcukkery of passing the ball backwards around their defense is infuriating as is the lack of tempo, drive, guts, skill in their game.

Extremely poor performance ..Yet another stick of a manager hired by United.

    Lower mid-table at best.

Different arguement really isn't it, you could argue for either of them to come off. Maybe Casemiro left on for example as he is a genuine threat from set pieces and Ugarte isn't? Who knows. Doesn't really change the point, utterly bizarre to pretend - cause surely it's a pretence - that there isn't logic to taking off a defensive player for an attacking player when needing a goal.

Throw in the excuses about the ref as well. Next thing we will be hearing the fatigue excuse when we have to play an FA Cup game

You really should look up the meaning of the word nuance if you don’t understand it.

It wasn’t a good point by any means but this Wolves side have put up a good fight in plenty of matches, doing well against Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle and others. There’s no doubt in my mind that, as poor as they are, they are a better team than that Derby County side.

Just cannot agree on this regarding Sesko. He is holding the ball well and bringing his team into play. Any chances he is getting he's for the most part making himself. He's making really good runs and just not being played in.

Look, it's a really frustrating result and I do agree Amorim got it wrong tonight. Are there mitigating circumstances? Yes but we still should be beating Wolves clearly.

I've accepted that this season is going to have mad results like this.

No, we didn't need Semenyo to beat a rubbish Wolves side. The only thing needed was a performance from the team.

Hell, we had Wolves best attacker from last season on the pitch feeding a 70m striker, does that mean nothing?

All we ever hear is "get more and better players". Do we even need a manager at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,079 ✭✭✭Robson99

Higher XG than us, but maybe that doesn't count like the players Wolves were missing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,680 ✭✭✭BenK

To play devil's advocate, what way do you set up that team today differently considering the players available? It looks pretty crap to me no matter what set up I can think of!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,577 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Not sure what your attempted point is?

Injuries and missing players do indeed make a difference.

If our performances were due to just those things, we'd be fine. But the reality is that we cannot perform consistently even with a full squad.

In the run up to beating Wolves 4-1, we lost at home to a 10 man Everton in a diabolical performance... We then had a great second half against Palace and got an excellent 3 points away... We then had a another diabolical performance at home to West Ham... All pretty much with a full squad and without missing players.

If we had everyone tonight, we probably would have beaten them... But then again, I wouldn't have been banking on that.

Ya like first half slight deflection and he scores a goal, second half hits post from a superb leap, should score the header from close range and a decent effort that forced a saved that dorgu scored but was unfortunately offside, im probably missing one or two other bits he did well enough tonight from very little service, hopefully they start going in for him soon he could do with the confidence boost also

Wolves were missing a few tonight too so we can throw out that excuse for a start.

You are the one who talks about “nuance”.

In a back 4 one of your players, usually the one with the better engine serves as a screen for the back 4. Casemiro does not have mobility to do this anymore but that is not so much of an issue with 3 cbs, hence him starting all season.
There a more than a number of shortcomings in Igartes game but this was one aspect he performed very well against Newcastle. Now the issue with Ugarte not being there for the last part of tonight’s game was not about attack, it’s about the holes that opened up that nearly resulted in the glass being lost.

Ideally, with those available, the only viable option was the same formation as against Newcastle. Nothing else made any sense. But Amorims mind operates differently. To switch to a 4-2-3-1 mid game you also need to assess the players. If Ugarte was not fit to continue Martinez should have stepped in. If he was fit it was a huge risk to leave the midfield two as Casemiro and Fletcher.

There were not many options available to change the game in an attacking sense, but with a proper structure at the start would likely not have been an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭Charlie69

It’s simple really, I’m not disagreeing with anything you said there but my point was if we had those seven players available I think we’d have won tonight. We’re agreeing with each other actually.

You will criticise me personally about my opinions without including any analysis of what happened on the pitch or any rebuttals apart from “nuance”. Yeah, sure thing, your analysis is awesome 👍
