Interesting night to watch Arsenal - and whilst it is obvious enough from the table - the intensity of them all over the pitch is another level to what we are at - at present - defense and attack.

Yea you'd imagine. I'd prefer to see Arsenal win it.

arsenal and city are not in our lane

That’s a great result for us villa could implode now

Beating Wolves at home isn't for everyone it seems. Wolves fully deserved it too.

Hopefully pick up another 3 points tomorrow as most of other teams around us seem to be dropping points.

Never underestimate Manchester United and Chelsea's ability to shoot themselves in the foot!

oh we were never catching arsenal and or city, it just felt a maybe a turning point for them.

i thought if Villa got a draw or a shock win, especially with rice out, then it could derail things for them.

i couldn’t disagree more , I can’t stand City but Arteta and Arsenal fans are unbearable. They already are after winning nothing but an FA Cup over the last 6 years after all that spend so can only imagine if they win the league .

City win it and it’s forgotten about at usual 3 days later so you’ll find alot of people won’t want Arsenal to win it at all.

The way our season has gone we shouldn't look to Arsenal and City now.

Everything needs to go in to getting 3 points against a Leeds team who are in good form and are not a walk over no matter what some in here want to think of it being an easy game.

They beat Chelsea 3-1, drew with us 3-3, drew with Brentford 1-1 (away), beat Crystal Palace 4-1 and drew 1-1 with Sunderland (away). They are undefeated in the month of December and lost their last November match to City 3-2 (away) only losing to a 91st minute winner from City.

I really don't care about the performance for this game. 3 points will put us 5 points ahead of Chelsea and United and 4 points behind Aston Villa and get the win we can pressure them for 3rd.

A month ago we would have all taken being 4th going in to the New Year. We need to kick on from here.

7 points from next 3 games would be lovely.

Ya im mixed up with the days too many guinness over Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,618 ✭✭✭giveitholly

Can't remember too many(if any) saying the Leeds game would be easy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,358 ✭✭✭eigrod

it will be anything but. Calvert-Lewin will be so up for it (think Richarlison) and they learned at Elland Road how to hurt us at the back (think running at Konate). Really need Bradley to be fit and on form for it.

Potential to open a 5pt gap to Chelsea tomorrow. It must be taken! Huge chance to make a cushion

Leeds a very dangerous game for us, they are playing well, know from earlier this month they have nothing to fear against us and we are still not playing well despite an upturn in results. Getting the win would consolidate 4th and put a bit of pressure on Villa in 3rd, which I think is still very achievable for us.

Need to be particularly clinical on Thursday. Leeds are likely to score at least 1. I think we'll have most of the possession/territory we just need to make it count a lot more than we have this year.

I want back in the title race, it's there for us IF we get it together, stop all the negative approaches from Slot

Klopp's message to players was to always play with bravery, take risks, and never fear mistakes. Feels the opposite now, Slot will try to hold on to a lead as soon as we get it by removing attackers and putting on defenders

If at 2-0 we concede under Klopp, he encourages us to even attack more, ends up 5-1

Against 9 men Spurs, Jones with a 20ft radius around him empty, pleaded with Sobo to clear it long via a throw, to Spurs.

I can't remember any team making a clearance via a throw, especially against 9 men.

Yes you might boot it clear from your box ,when it's a huge game, and you're leading and you're away to Real. But via a throw, against 9 men Spurs. That's actually embarrassing

I’m ngl, watching Arsenal be this successful feels like I’m living in a reoccurring nightmare, something feels so off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,014 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

They'll be successful when they win the big trophies, not in December. We've been here before with Arsenal. Christmas and New year champions only to bottle it. They should win it really, but City are keeping in touch, for now anyway.

The lack of speed energy and intensity from Liverpool is pretty stark when watching other games over the Xmas period. Listening to podcasts of match day goers and the lack of atmosphere in ground is an obvious outcome of this slow pace play and the lack of leadership.

If we don’t buy in January that will be a potential red flag for Slot’s tenure. Two keepers on the bench v Wolves and also a load of squad players he has almost zero intention of playing.

We aren’t missing a lot of players as it is - Dom will be back for Friday Konate one card off suspension.

That’s leaves salah endo Gomez Isak leoni unavailable and Danns if that’s even worth noting as he’s not going to get game time.

At their age Wirtz and Ekitike should they be playing more than forty games given the adjustment to the physicality of the PL. inexplicable how many minute Macca’s getting as well. So in short the squads looking threadbare which is added to by Slot’s reluctance to use players more and over use others.

But Slots failure to generate energy either from the players or the fans looks like a constant at this point. He even called on the fans pre wolves and at two nil up the place was like a morgue.

I have been for quite some time Slot out and the recent results are doing nothing to mask the dogsh1t football. At the halfway point in the league it’s looking like Chelsea, Spurs, Palace, Newcastle, City and United could be in the market for a new manager all picking from a market that is not over loaded with candidates.

Who would you suggest as a replacement for Slot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,312 ✭✭✭Appletart Upsetter

The big issue with the fans at Liverpool (and other grounds) is the average age. Look around the crowd at Anfield, there are a lot of men and women in their 40s, 50s and 60s. It's like a bloody rugby crowd now.

It's become unaffordable for young people who are far more likely to generate some noise. Throw tourists into the mix and you get what we have now.

Agreed. The football is terrible and the problem is its hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. We have good players but are playing worse than teams with a fraction of our budget.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 428 ✭✭redoctober

Yes. The fans can only react to what's in front of them. All season its been atrocious for the most part. And if we're honest it wasn't great last year as a spectacle.

You didn't enjoy watching Liverpool win the league last season?

I don't give 2 shiny shites about "entertaining" football. I want to watch Liverpool win in the most efficient manner possible. No drama, just winning. I realise I'm probably an outlier but football is not entertainment, it's sport and it's about winning.
