re: Ant Man 2, yes and no. The movie took place before Infinity War (probably weeks or even months before). The post-credits were timed with the snap in Infinity War.

Could very well be the same situation with Spider-Man 4. It's likely the film was always going to be separate to the events of Doomsday and either the ending or post-credits would then tie in to Doomsday/Secret Wars. Plenty of time to change that now though.

Jon Bernthal’s ‘Punisher’ Starring In ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Finally some **** cop on by Sony. Daredevil and Kingpin would be great in it as well.

I don't think Kingpin can be in the movies, related to rights

It is claimed that Kingpin can't be in the movies, but I reckon the actor is saying that so when he appears in brand new day it is a 'shock'.

How are people feeling about the FF movie? For me, the Superman movie has stolen a lot of the oxygen from the discussion but I'll admit that I'm - somewhat cautiously - looking forward to both.

I think most comic book fans are looking forward to both.

Yeah I'm looking forward to and trepidacious about both movies, and how much is riding on them which unfortunately will take over the discourse about the films because anything less than a monumental success will see the films being labelled as "The Death of the (X)CU!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,719 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Looking forward to both, high hopes for FFS and think it will meet expectations

I'm on then fence with Superman, I trust gunn but fear it could be similar to superman returns and will obviously be compared immediately to Man of steel. Will still go in with an open mind

I know this is the wrong thread but for me, the worry with Superman is different - I think there might be too much going on in it, it might be too comic book-y for a wider audience who have had their tastes shaped by the Snyder style efforts of recent times. Anyway, both are definite must-sees for me.

absolutely loved FIRST STEPS. So good.

And now I don’t want Fantastic Four brought into the “Sacred Timeline”. Let them be their own thing in that beautifully crafted retro-futuristic 1960s and they can crossover with Avengers timeline and the X-Men timeline (which I also want separate as it makes no sense to have some supes hated and other loved).

FANTASTIC 4 timeline can even be it own MCU if the they want to reboot anything from Avengers. A 60s Spiderman, iron man and Hulk would be awesome.

Marvel Zombies all episodes added to Disney+

Retroactive at this stage but I thought Superman looked exhausting in both the trailers and being the umpteenth attempt at launching an MCU some twelve years too late yet in the end I felt the movie handled the multiple characters well. Meanwhile, the MCU's strongest offerings of late for me - F4, Thunderbolts*, Agatha, Daredevil - have been standalone stories.

*I appreciated the movie actually being about something but gosh that footnote stunt sucked the energy out of the eventual watch. Still haven't recovered from Secret Invasion cloying stink rippling back over stuff I liked.

Wonder if they asked Mahershala to voice Blade or did they decide his first non-stinger appearance should be live action. Maybe.

Only watched the first episode so far.

Was coming here to comment on watching Shang Chi this week so seeing Trevor there is funny because I absolutely hated Iron Man 3

Just did a full run through from Captain America to Endgame as the kids are old enough now to have really enjoyed it.

    Still hated IM3...

But we got to Shang Chi and I was not looking forward to it at all, didn't like it in the cinema on my only watch.

It's actually damn better than I remember, Trevor is done very well and I, amazingly, liked Awkwafina in it.

Yeah I would have liked The Mandarin to have the old school rings and way he got them, it would have changed very little of the story. But it's a gripe a few years separation has dampened down

I actually very much enjoyed IM3. Was actually my favourite of the IM films. But then I just looked at it as a Shane Black film. The quips were Shane Black smart ("That all you got? a cheap trick and a cheesy one-liner?" "Lady, that could be the title of my autobiography"). I thought the kid was fun (I generally hate kids in movies. I cannot watch "The Day The Earth Stood Still" remake because of the extremely unlikeable kid. I know he was supposed to be troubled but still). I have minimal knowledge of the comics (Or DC comics) so I have no real skin in the game if they radically change a character. I thought the reveal of Trevor was hilarious and (to me) totally unexpected.

Would I like to see the character in a main role in a movie? No. He was JUST the right side of enough in Shang Chi. Bordering on too much. But that Planet of The Apes speech…… Loved it.

I actually quite liked Shang Chi also. Sure, the dragons were a bit much but overall I found the characters likeable and fun. I knew NOTHING about Awkafina before this but you knew instantly that she was a top notch comedian. I know she gets a lot of hate for being annoying but I didn't find her so.

And anything that gets Tony Leung on a huge f*cking poster outside of my local cinema is a good thing

The dragons were not enough, to be honest. Far too regular dragon type.

IM3 "twist" was Shane Black yeah but Iron Man and Mandarin were not Blackesque characters

Yeah I always really liked IM3. Have never understood the hate for it.

Didn't mind the Mandarin switch at all because Kingsley was great on both sides of it; he was menacing while as the Mandarin, and hilarious when revealed to be Trevor.

I also enjoyed Shang Chi a lot but it did devolve into a lot of CGI fluff in the 3rd act. Didn't even mind the dragon fight, but the secret villagers battling the army of bat monsters and Awkwafina learning to fire arrows... wouldn't have cared if all that was cut. Just kept retracting from Shang Chi fighting his father which was really great.

I guess the thing to ask was were the people who didn't mind fans of the Mandarin before the film.

Most I know did not know much about him before the film. I was really looking forward to him from the moment the Ten Rings was mentioned in Iron Man.

Also the arrival of the Makluans which Shang Chi kinda tossed aside

I'm guessing these alleged four mini teasers leads to a proper teaser in early January at best, otherwise what constitutes a teaser is kind of taking the piss at this point.

Will be so funny when it just turns out to be a foul-mouthed johnny storm calling Doom a ******* ******* ****

Somehow (declining interest in the MCU), Steve Rogers returned…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,713 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

I've no issue with Steve returning. In a world where Vin Diesel can make infinite Fast films, I don't see the problem, and the MCU is at a point where they need Evans and RDJ back badly.

Let's be honest, the second the multiverse was announced, anyone with an inkling about the comics would have known that when the next big Avenger film was announced, that they'd be coming back. It just wasn't foreseen how badly they'd be needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,025 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Yup, badly need the Cap back. The experiment with Falcon Cap didn't work IMO. Whether is was the character or the actor, it just never landed properly. The best thing to come out of the void left by Steve Rogers is US Agent. Thunderbolts really brought that character along in a way that Falcon's Cap movie couldn't.

What I'm interested to see is how Steve comes back given last we saw him, he was an old man in 2020.

In fairness Steve Rogers coming back is far easier to explain and understand than why Victor Von Doom looks exactly like their Tony Stark.
