Was wondering if anyone is aware of anywhere that is open for Christmas day dinner in Cork (City ideally)? A few places I have checked are resident only, but am throwing it out there in case anyone else is aware? (its for family of older folks who struggled a little last year getting everything together)

    Thanks

Sole in Drury St. Dublin (entrance).

Know it's been mentioned before. Went last week with my OH specially for the early bird (check times) which is the lunch menu extended to 6pm.

Really good experience in what's a fish restaurant with some meat. Came to just under €100 with two glasses of their cheapest but still good wine . Only complaint is that I was seated on couch against wall which gave me pain in my elderly back.

Busy place even mid-week so booking essential.

    Hayfield Manor

Good quality ingredients that are cooked with skill. It's not the type of food that I could review well, but I very much enjoyed it.

Starter: Poached Pear and Cashel Blue Cheese salad, frise Lettuce, Celery, Grapes, and Pickled Walnuts.

    image.png

Main: Halibut, Sautéed Potatoes, Baby Spinach, Shallots Caper Beurre Noisette

    image.png

Dessert: White Chocolate Monte, Honeycomb, Orange Pudding, Orange Gel, and Honeycomb Ice Cream

It's almost the only place I'm guaranteed to walk out happy, this and elbow lane.

The Egyptian food truck has been joined by two more. Good idea for that little plaza I think.

Had a couple of good meals out last weekend. Elbow lane Saturday night. Great to see them back in full action after the fire. Enjoyed the meal a lot. Great vibe in there I always find. The ribs and the lamb mains were excellent and the side of crispy smoked mushrooms was especially good. Chips as always good! excellent drink selection and I like how they offer wine by the pichet not just glass/bottle. The only thing we didn't really think a total success was the burrata starter which combined excellent burrata with a leek artichoke hazelnut relish that just didn't have enough acidity to stand up to the creamy cheese. But otherwise very happy. Then Paladar for a quick bite Sunday. Had only been once before on a saturday when it was really just too loud and bar-like to enjoy the food but much more chill on Sunday. Tried about 4 of their small plates and all very tasty.

Went to the newly opened Sprout on Winthrop Street for lunch today. Was a bit sceptical and some of the food (chicken maybe) didn't look great in the prep containers behind the counter but was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it ended up being when put together as a bowl. Looked appealing as well when all made up. Had the Tokyo bowl with trout and it worked very well. Not cheap at 14.50 but substantial and very filling. I got takeaway. There's about 8 maybe tables (for 2/4) for eating in. Was busy with people checking out the newbie! Friendly and very efficient staff.

Hadn't heard of it. Great to have a good stopping point when going to Limerick or Clare.

Any connection with Sage or Salt, I wonder? If not, it seems kinda odd to take the names of 2 Cork restaurants and combine them into one name for another restaurant.

I've been there before. I would highly recommend it too.

we shared a festive pie from The Pie Guys last night - OMG - recommend 100% - but not if your calorie counting… the smell of butter in the kitchen.. hmm…. made with the best of ingredients I would guess.. real turkey, ham (actual slices) and stuffing… totally delicious - we had it with mixed veg and baby spuds.. man it was delicious

Sounds delicious, but by the time I get there I'll be sick of festive flavourings!! One to remember though.

Had the festive chicken in kcs last week. Biggest disappointment ever. Huge portion of chips, huge lumps of chicken not suitable to eat from a chipper box and wooden fork! Very little gravy and pretty tasteless stuffing.

Just passing today and I've been wondering what the Viaduct is like? Haven't been in years, since it changed owners.

People seem to really rate their carvery. I had soup and sandwich, I think, a couple of years ago. It was decent but very expensive for what it was, I thought. Busy and popular.

Passed The Viaduct yesterday and seemed quite busy.

My Goodness at the Quay Co-op.

A very welcome upscale. Excellent move for both parties.

    Nachos, curry. All vegan.

Do try their mulled kombucha. 🌲

festive pie from the pie Guys

    Hmmmm

    Have they opened a restaurant?

I feel a pie restaurant would do well.

Went to the viaduct for a carvery few weeks ago with the family, I must say it was a great feed, generous portions and food was very tasty.

    Any reviews on Mantra yet?

Dunne's Store's top floor café on Patrick's Street do a carvery plate for €9.95. It's really pretty decent. Had turkey and ham yesterday.

There isn't value anywhere close to that anywhere in town anymore.

    Very busy!

Have been in there twice with friends, very tasty both times. I would say it’s similar to Ritu in Carrigaline - a focus on presentation but the food has lived up to it for us.

there’s no such thing as a good ginger. Don’t trust them

NYE set menu at the Glass Curtain last night. First time going

A couple of really stand out components in a couple of the dishes and then one or two things that fell a bit short.

We didn't rate the wine pairing and the dessert was very heavy on the brandy but God the Monkfish and Venison dishes were top notch.

Tiny beef tartare with a fondant potato was also very good.
