Surely todays appeal is between the school and Enoch? Why would Martina be allowed into that?

Was Enoch allowed out from prison for this? Will he have to go back to prison after this? Will he get a chance to brief his family who will likely be nearby ready to causing a scene? We might not know anything until mid week and there's another high court hearing then.

tis more of tragedy than anything, a family that requires a lot of professional help, care and support

It's quite clear that an alternative path is clearly laid out for EB and his family.

They can continue to hold fast to their beliefs and carry on campaigning for them but they must do so in compliance with the law.

Hopefully they will be guided to make the right decision.

They will get their reward when they pass, that essentially is the reasoning. No different to being embraced by a load of virgins when you blow yourself up to kill a few heathens.

Ruining your actual life in dedication to a perceived/indoctrinated one is indeed quite sad.

I would ask what's taking them so long but we all know!

Edit: Looks like they've finished up but came to no decision.

"A Disciplinary Appeals Panel considering teacher Enoch Burke's appeal against his dismissal from Wilson's Hospital School in Westmeath in January 2023 has concluded.

The panel met with Mr Burke in Athlone today, while Mr Burke’s family also attended.

Mr Burke, who is currently in prison for contempt of court, was transported to the hearing by the Irish Prison Service.

A decision on Mr Burke’s appeal is set to be made at a later date, after the panel considers points made in today’s hearing."

    Oh my god!

Still no end to his work dismissal situation. No surprise there. It's impossible to reason with him. And did his family have to get involved in a work dispute? I hope there will be progress with criminal contempt of court from now on. That seems to be the only way forward at this stage to bring an end to this mess. Enoch is someone who wants everyone to obey him and his version.

If it adopts a similar approach as the WRC, it would -

issue a written Recommendation/Determination/Decision as soon as is practical after the close of the hearing, usually within three weeks in industrial relations disputes and within six weeks in employment rights cases.

It is wise to separate the hearing from the decision. It reduces the opportunity for theatrics. It gives time to consider the application properly. It avoids the potential perception that the outcome was predetermined. It gives time for the appeals board to properly document and issue their written reccomendation/determination/decision.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was not issued until early in the new year.

I would have been surprised if they had made a determination today. In the interest of fair procedure and due process, there is a need to consider any point that may have been made by Enoch (as unhinged or nonsensical as they might have been). In addition, if upholding the dismissal decision is a ultimately the outcome, the panel would need to ensure that the decision is legally sound, given that in all likelihood, it would be subject to future challenge before the WRC.

Plus, if the family were present, which I don't understand - if I managed to land myself in discipline in my job, I can bring a colleague or union rep as a witness, I can't bring my family along - but that aside, if the determination was to uphold the dismissal and was made in front of family, they would likely have gone entirely bonkers before the board (considering their past behaviour in court). So, issuing a decision in writing to Enoch Burke at a later stage, even if it's only in a week or two's time, might have been an effort at keeping good order in the room whilst the hearing was taking place.

It's not easy to fire someone under Irish law and the school and Enoch know that not only does he know all the buttons to push, he will push them too.

So the Burkes' take on the meeting (how come the whole family had access??) is now up.

It's 12 minutes long and I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing, skipped though it.

Seemed to be the usual attempts at obfuscation of the issue (his behaviour) and door stepping of the panel memebers as they exited. A wholly one sided account of the proceedings. Mother ranting as usual while the children nod their agreement.

Ammi holding that hard stare for the duration was somewhat unsettling.

    Bonkers.

They're like low-rent comedians trying to do impressions of RTE regional reporters.

Some very hasty editing in there. I'd love to know what was said that even the Burkes thought was best cut out.

    Horrible bunch of time wasters.

The absolute state of them. Ego maniacs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭goldsparkle

That is intimidation pure and simple from them to the members of the appeals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭goldsparkle

Can't be bothered watching it all. I think I watched a minute or two. I just can't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭goldsparkle

I wonder if this is the worst civil case ever in Ireland?

I think if it was anyone else facing a legal situation they would get proper legal advice and put their head down low for a while. Legal advice would be to help migitate their situation. EB never did that. His family who are solicitors can't really be trusted. They are too close to him and too emotional about it. They just keep making it worse. It's never ending from them. They want to bully the school and the courts to confirm with their beliefs.

Objectively he's a terrible teacher. He's an appalling role-model for any child. He has shown no respect for the pupils or the school he was employed at. On the contrary he has harassed and stalked the school.

The only way to deal with his abuse of his former work-place has been the law - which he has flaunted, and the court system, which has he repeatedly flaunted. He has fundamentalist beliefs and comes from a fundamentalist family.

All of this is a result of his own actions.

Anyone can say he is completely unhinged.

If you did one fraction of what this guy did at your work-place you would have been fired long ago. And if you carried on one fraction of his antics afterwards you'd either be in prison (like he is) or a mental hospital.

I watched a little bit more of last night's video but I can't stomach it all.

Didn't Ireland bring in hate laws and would this come in under hate laws? Because they have severe opposition against transgender ideology and it's prolonged and intense. Martina was ranting as if transgender is a contagious disease and she was ranting to parents not to tolerate this in schools.

It's all so wrong. There's nothing wrong with being transgender and transgender people are not hurting anyone.

What the video clips of him and the family haranguing the school board members when they were trying to attend a meeting in a midlands hotel a while back and tell me it's not "verbal aggression".

Reminded me of the days of the water charges protests when you'd have these loons screaming "PEACEFULL PROTEST" over and over again inches from the faces some poor sham trying to dig a hole.

Thousands of patriots out in support of Enoch yesterday...well maybe a couple of dozen.

But we mustn't forget the huge support 'standing with him' online. It was just probably a bit too chilly to leave the house.

It was a Sunday, it's a day of rest. Has to be the only explanation why all his supporters weren't out for their fellow patriot who's being silenced despite being reported on in the news nearly weekly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Westernview

Yes a day of rest. Apart from the Santa's grottos and Xmas markets and other commercial events that must be attended to honour our lord. Enoch can wait.

    Patriots.

Why is it that so many ""patriots" so readily hate so many people, institutions, laws and organisations that work for, run, govern and provide, and often prefer other countries, to the country they supposedly love?

Surely part of being a patriot is taking pride in the institutions, rights and norms, however flawed, that we as a society set up to improve the lives of every citizen, and be willing to buy into them for the collective good? Respect the laws of the land, and try to make life easier for all citizens, and try and contribute as much as you can to that society for the benefit of all.

Hell, I'd go so far as to say wearing a Celtic jersey, waving a tri-colour, or screaming about "values" as an excuse to hate people, doesn't make you a patriot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Westernview

In today's world a sure sign someone isn't a patriot is when they go around calling themselves that. Just trying to give their lives meaning and relevance.

The real patriots in Ireland are the fire fighters, doctors and nurses, those working for charity's and food banks, community volunteers etc. In other words all those engaging in activities that the other 'patriots' never go near.

One thing you always notice with these patriots is that they don't seem to mind millions of our (taxpayers mind) money going to waste.

The same applies to pretty much all of those that like to "label themselves"

"Good Christian" - Not so much

    "Alpha-male" - Nope.

"Family Values focused " - No, not really

    "Concerned citizens" racists

    "God fearing" right wing nuts

    "Anti establishment" anti democracy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,092 ✭✭✭Bishop of hope

So every concerned citizen is a racist?

Every god fearing person is a right wing nut?

Your views are as narrow as Burkes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,263 ✭✭✭Westernview

Never said every concerned citizen is racist but almost all those attending anti immigrant rallys and calling themselves that are. Its those publically announcing their labels im wary of.

A lot of the right like to let us know they are 'god fearing'. Most of centre and left i would say are more God loving or secular. The 'fear' element is more for the conservative right.

Once again im suspicious of your 'bishop' username. Making out its just a name and you dont support Burke but suggesting im as narrow minded as him. Yeah ive been breaking court orders and harassing school staff im so narrow.

Again you have a quip on the God fearing aspect.

I never said anything about the Burkes, just the way you worded your post, as if being any of the elements you mentioned suddenly makes you a racist or a right wing nut. There are also loads of people who are anti establishment in a democratic way, it's a democratic right to want the establishment changed too.

The Burkes even have a democratic right to their views. That's not what he is in jail for. All he has to do is not trespass at Wilson hospital school. He is democratically free to preach and promote his views in a lawful way.
