That's now the 3rd parkrun called Y Promenâd. Interesting for Ireland though, this one is close to Holyhead.

    This too shall pass.

Was at Naas parkrun for the first time today. I'm probably equidistant from Royal Canal and Naas, but have opted for Kilcock up to now. Really enjoyed it. It's very straightforward, 2.5 laps. The last 800m was sweet today, wind behind you and a slight descent in places. I'll be back for another bash.

Have added 4 new parkruns to my list this year - Narin Beach, Mullingar, Castlehaven, Naas. Something i used to make an effort to do when I started doing parkrun, but had not done it for a few years.

Well done, I can recommend a trip down the M7 to Vicarstown. Similar to Kilcock, an out and back along the canal. Plus, a handy V in your pocket should you consider going for an alphabet challenge.

    This too shall pass.

Nice one, that wouldn't be too far. I might get to it in the new year.

Bring some coins with you, it has to be the friendliest core team/run I've met and I've done nearly 50 different locations. They have a lovely spread after the run and it's nice to drop a few coins into their donation box to provide treats for upcoming runs.

I've done all my parkruns in Dodder Valley so far its most convenient to home! I'm in Galway this weekend and I'm hoping to do either Oranmore or University Galway Parkrun if anyone can recommend one over the other? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,094 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Oranmore is a two lapper with a massive hill to do twice. Uni Galway is a flat out and back which recently removed some laps of a field and instead you run/walk a bit more along the river. If you're an alphabet hunter, O is rare enough but there's a few around Ireland, University of Galway is the only U on the island.

21 Christmas Day events and 59 New Year events over the next couple of weeks. The details of where can be found here. Keep in mind your mobile might not display the new year's events so scroll to the right on the table.

Thanks- Had never actually considered alphabet hunting! I like the idea of running alongside the river in December so will do the University!

Found this on the Lough Head parkrun page. Helpful for our friends up north.

Could Castletown parkrun make a return? Their Facebook page is still very active.

Bushy park was paid a visit by myself today, to mark the B on the alphabet/my name list. What a day. Paths flooded in sections. You'll get wet they said, splash everyone.

I also was at Bushy Park, the other one. The original you might say. Meanwhile Sandringham got themselves an interested spectator.

    Definitely motivation to run faster

Ara Charlie's harmless enough. It's his brother at a Junior parkrun you need to worry about.

Booked a holiday on the Spanish south coast but worried about missing your parkrun? Worry no more. Gibraltar is getting a parkrun starting tomorrow morning.

9am start might be fun in July.

How long does it take to cross the border these days into Gib? Could be a tricky one.

On foot, about 5 minutes at border control and 5 minutes to walk across the border/runway. That course looks interesting, most of the botanical gardens are on a steep hill.

Gibraltar is described on the site as an 'out and back 3 times' which obviously isn't ideal, but I appreciate that they have to make do with the space they have.
course | Gibraltar Botanical Gardens parkrun

Therefore the unique course must be ~830 metres (5000 / 6). So I'm fascinated when they say 'a total elevation gain of 100 metres'. It seems impossible to run up or especially down 100 metres in 830 metres, the gradient would be akin to Patricks Hill in Cork. So I guess they must be triple counting for the 3 laps (is this the standard way of calculating?).
But even if it's just 33 metres over 830 metres, it will still be extremely challenging by the 3rd 'up'.

Yes, my understanding is that the TOTAL gain over the 5k is 100m, which is a steep one, made more challenging in that it is an out and back 3 times, meaning 33m on the outward 3 times, which is a sharp up and then sharp down. That will take the wind out of anyone at the best of times. And then in the heat of the summer! Great to see it started.

A visit to Mount Etna parkrun is well worth the effort. Got the overnight train from Milan to Sicily. The train goes onto the boat for the crossing. Was a unique experience

It was also Europe's most southern parkrun until Gibraltar got in there.

Mura di Luca is one I have my eye on, one lap of the Roman empire walls of the city.
