Completely different situations. Russia have to be excluded first because there is a risk of clashing between fans, and also their war is completely unjustified.

Killing over 20,000 kids is "completely unjustified". Creating more child amputees than anywhere else in the world is"completely unjustified". Killing over 220 Journalists is "completely unjustified". Weaponising food supplies is "completely unjustified".

What about Belarus being excluded ? I don't recall them carrying out apartheid for decades or carrying out an extermination and forced starvation of a population while living in a ghetto.

    Niccolò Machiavelli :

"To ally with great powers to defeat your neighbour is a strategic trap; if you win, you become the slave of the greater power; if the allied power is defeated, you remain alone and defenceless against the angry neighbour, and you are destroyed." - Niccolò Machiavelli

Do you want them in? They are the limp … appendix of Russia, one of the last remaining autocracy in Europe. They are the opposite of Israel, Belarus is a backwards country surrounded by advanced and civilizes countries (except of course Russia).

Israel trying to nobble the voting was also an issue - and resolutions to stop them in 2026 were passed.

Yeah I heard that. Israel's tampering of the votes had a lot of gullible people fooled. Netanyahu and Co have no morals left.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Isn't Azerbaijan authoritarian also, yet no problem with them being allowed in. Very strange when Eurovision say "Eurovision must NOT turn into a political theatre,"

Yet at the same time ban others for blatantly political reasons and then allow the global pariah to take the stage after murdering 20,000 kids with many more missing buried under the rubble.

Sounds like more blatant double standards to most onlookers. Maybe they should invite Palestine to take part in it instead of one of the countries that pulled out ?

Yeah that will be something. Probably they will take it as an insult though.

Suicides and suicide attempts are through the roof in the IDF since 7th Oct.

It is easy to guess why, when soldiers commit or witness atrocities it can damage them mentally.

I remember reading somewhere that they had the same problem with the SS during WW2.

Yet another thread hijacked by Palestine/Gaza. Not that it isn't a very important issue.

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch, on the same day that DJT gets the ridiculous FIFA Peace Prize, we get this from the Trump regime:

Germany introduces voluntary conscription, buys arms from Israel, and now Merz is visiting Israel. Almost 100 years later they are warming up for another attempt at conquest.

Amnesty International staged a demonstration in central Berlin on Friday to protest German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s planned weekend visit to Israel amid ongoing war crimes in Gaza, Anadolu reports.

Don't be so harsh. A lot of their fans on here spent a good bit of money voting for the too.

I knew that the screams of the little murdered children would come back to haunt them at night.

It's not throwing toys out of the pram to take a principled stand against the deliberate murder of children. You, as a father, should be the first to acknowledge that. It's fashionable to criticise the country these days, but fair play to all concerned. It's something to be proud of not embarrassed. Thankfully It's only a minority of Irish people running cover for a state committing war crimes that think it's embarrassing.

Seems a sizeable number of Israelis are inclined to leave the World Pariah.

Is this an indication that "the writing is on the wall" and they see no future in a rapidly disintegrating State that is making headlines for all the wrong reasons? That they see no future and the cost of living is rising is probably associated with the increases in military spending and no sign of Israeli aggression slowing down. Perhaps some also see the jeopardy of "reparations" on the horizon.

I don't have access to the full article but here is the Haaretz strapline.

Over a Quarter of Israelis Consider Emigrating, New Poll Finds

Slightly more Arab Israelis than Jewish Israelis are inclined to leave, with top reasons for departure among both groups 'lack of a good future', rising costs of living, and the security situation. Almost two-thirds of both groups also cited the government's judicial overhaul as a central concern

This piece from Khoury of Haaretz. Shabab was killed in a "family feud" apparently. Seems Israel had him earmarked for "leadership" and eliminating Hamas.

"Anyone who is given power from the outside but has no domestic base of support is living on borrowed time.

Yet Israel, once again, built an illusion around someone out of its own need to find a person it deemed suitable to run Gaza rather than out of the Palestinians' genuine leadership needs.

[Militia leader Yasser] Abu Shabab's death offers an important lesson – leadership can't grow from Israeli dictates.

Abu Shabab seemed like a strongman, yet in reality, he was a weak link who depended on weapons, chaos and the double game played by both local actors and Israel"

    Jack Khoury

    The wheels are coming off.

Landsmann recognises that whilst all the shenanigans are going on in Israel, everyone else is moving in and leaving them behind.

    Haaretz opinion piece:

"While we are drowning in the local swamp, Washington is already moving on to the second stage of its Gaza plan: forming a technocratic Palestinian committee to govern the Strip temporarily and a regional Board of Peace headed by Trump, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Europe.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is also back in the picture. And the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt is opening under a mechanism that in practice returns the Palestinian Authority to Gaza"

5 billion dollar increase in "defence" spending. Hmmm….

    Harretz strapline

    • Israel's defense budget for 2026 has been set at 112 billion shekels ($34.63 billion), the defense minister's office said on Friday, up from 90 billion shekels budgeted by the Finance Ministry in an earlier draft. The defense establishment had requested that the budget be set at 144 billion shekels.

The number of countries willing to boycott the Eurovision if Israel are allowed to take part is up to four or five now.

I think us, Spain, Iceland, Netherlands, Slovakia. There will be more to come I reckon.

Israeli govt. will blame us for it no doubt because we have very little trade with them so they can slag us off with little or no consequences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,945 ✭✭✭Francis McM

Very little trade with Israel? You are wrong there.

We will be looked at by most countries as the country that damaged the eurovision. Sending Dustin the Turkey was bad enough. Anyway, most people in Europe will not miss us, we have not sent a decent song in decades.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,337 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

Five countries left eurovision, so its strange to put the blame just on us. If israel manipulate the vote next year then they will really put the final nail in the competition.

Israeli groups like the ADL tend to use us as a very public whipping boy because they see us as small and inconsequential, and to try to scare or shame other nations into toeing the line.

Remember when us and Spain were both calling out the genocide? Israel was putting the boot into us, calling us antisemitic, they never said a word about the much more powerful Spain.

I think also the fact that Ireland has in recent history had a very good lobby in US politics pisses them off, they might see it as a threat to their own lobby.

Probably true and not helped by Alan Shatter doing so much paid PR for them.
