I think (non-European) Islam is particularly anti-Semitic, which comes out in that map. Austria has a big Muslim population.

That said, it does stand out as an outlier even then. It may be it has more memorials than other countries given the whole Hitler thing, which just offers more scope for easy anti-Semitic incidents.

It's also a map on anti-Semitism from a Tel-Aviv body, which I'd always be wary about, given how often Israeli officials have accused Ireland of anti-Semitism in the past two years for stuff that is actually anti-genocide. (I'm presuming protests against Israeli actions in Palestine aren't counted as an anti-Semitic incident)

The full report is available here.

They don't describe their methodology. But a quick scan suggests that they compile a global figure by adding up figures from each country, and that for each country they rely on figures either produced by the state authorities or by a community organisation (e.g. the ADL, in the US).

What that suggests is that the understanding of both "incident" and "antisemitic" could vary from country to country, and therefore comparisons between countries could be a bit dodgy.

A rise (or fall) in antisemitic incidents in one country (or in many countries) from year to year might be more meaningful that a comparison between different countries in the same year.

    Dons Non-AH Mod hat:

Folks, just on that ^^^ - if anyone wants to post "geographical" pictures that aren't strictly maps, they can do so on this thread in CVPL.

    Cool Pictures Thread

It's a non-chat thread (there's a dedicated chat thread on the forum, though) but captions are ok.

    Hope this helps.

*Side note regarding Argentina: it’s very easy to get into Universities but the free public ones are the hardest ones in the country, it takes many years and teachers are very demanding in the finals "

What do the different shades of green mean? Also to add to this in France it's something like €200 per year so practically free.

You have to read the little text at the bottom . Basically, Light Green has free undergrad for citizens and Dark Green extends that to international students.

You often find more information in the links

I was in Vienna last year and was stumbling home from the pub one night I came across a holocaust memorial, being patrolled by 2 heavily armed IDF soldiers. They'd obviously had their issues there

Very, very unlikely to have been the IDF — more likely Austrian police.

But this isn't new. I've seen police protection for synagogues or Jewish memorials on and off in various Central European countries more or less for ever — certainly, back to the 1980s.
