Is that the 24 month offer (€29.99/month) that is available until 1 December? I see the 24 month offer on the Bonkers website,

but not on Eir's own website (I can only see €29.99/month for 12 month offer on eir.ie)

And do you know can I choose to make the switch at a date in the future, when I am out of contract with my current provider in mid-December, or do I need to wait until I am actually out of contract?

All of the current offers are set to expire on 1/Dec so 500Mb will go from €30 to €35, 1Gb from €40 to €45 and 2Gb/5Gb will stay €50. These are 1 year contracts, with 2 year contracts set to go back to an additional €5 dearer.

I'm not sure about Bonkers but all offers are available in store and if you do it in person now we can keep pushing the install date forward whilst placing the order so that you "lock in" the discounted price. We can pick whatever date your current contract expires.

Nice to see a bit of competition at the moment in broadband and mobile phone plans.

Looks like next year consumers will be able to switch/cancel contracts that have mid-term price rises.

Under the proposed changes, a provider will have to give a minimum of 30 days advance notice of the price increase, during which time the customer may exit the contract without penalty.

No word on timing at this stage, although the Govt has approved the proposal to introduce this legislation. If its fast tracked (good chance as its not a controversial proposal), then we could see the changes as early as late Spring / early Summer next year.

Hopefully they can get it in before the typical April price rises.

This is already the case for providers who don't state any fixed price increase in April within the contract when signing up, like Virgin Media, Sky etc. They can still increase prices but you have the option to leave if they do.

So it will be good to see come in. Even if a price increase is mentioned as part of the ordering process, you can still cancel when it does increase.

Got a deal with Sky for the folks, 30 euro broadband and 13 euro for mobile + 7 for landline calls.

Good price difference compared to vodaphone who were charging very similar package for 129 per month!

This is fantastic news. The whole yearly mid-contract/CPI incresse is one of the most consumer-unfriendly practices in years! It's the main source of complaints we receive in eir.

And it went from a percentage to a flat fee. It will make companies stop that crap

I just had a visit from Eir sales lady offering me €29.99 for 12 or 24 months 500mb, plus €4 increase in April. I'm currently paying Pure €55 a month for the last 6 months of an 18 month contract. She said Eir will cover the €150 cancellation fee set by Pure. Has anyone availed of this offer and if so was it pain free to switch. They can provide the mobile sin for €9.99 and that's cheaper than the Gomo I have. The saving's would be welcome but I have a mental issue about breaking a contract. Cheers.

The mid term increase has been ruled out by the Govt. You can move your provider if you're hit with it by Eir.

They won't pay the breakage fee, be very careful what sales people say to you, they're feckers for giving prices before Vat as well personally I'd steer clear.

Eir will give you the cancellation charge back as credit on your eir bill, up to €200. You have to send proof of the final bill afaik.

The mobile SIM will go up €2.50pm in April also.

It's been approved by cabinet but is not in quite yet and mightn't be in by April.

Thank you. Will give it more thought.

She did not tell me that. I have plenty to think about. Thank you.

And you can get a mobile service from Clear Mobile for €9.99 with no price rises (uses Vodafone network) with the added benefit that your phone service is not tied to your broadband account so you can freely move provider if you wish without much hassle.

Have to say I am really annoyed with Pure telecom, their new business offer is €40 for 1gb on NBI. My contract is up for renewal and they are giving me a "loyalty" price of €55. When I asked why is can I not get the €40 advertised on their website, they just said that is for new business.

Nice to see the appreciate loyalty.

Any good offers at the moment for 1gb on an NBI line? I am finding a few providers charge different rates for NBI which is frustrating.

I've always found pure dreadful for loyalty offers.

    Try digiweb

forget loyalty from big companies, if you want loyalty get a dog

Be ruthless and get the cheapest deal going, changing companies every year seems like a hassle but it’s worth it

Changing is easy peasy especially if you just keep using the same router etc. Each year, the new modem sits on the shelf gathering dust where the previous year's modem stayed until it needed to be returned.

I found 5 in the hot press last week where the companies don’t even want them back anymore

Thanks to this thread, and in particular @NotShero I finally got connected to NBI fibre for the first time with 500Mb from Pure. Wonderful customer service, great to ring up and speak to an Irish person! Also managed to connect up my deco mesh to the ONT (with a little help).

Delighted so far, the old SIM card in a router was great, but I am streaming more stuff these days and a reliable connection will make the experience much smoother.

So I suppose I will be back this time next year when its time to do the whole switcheroo thing!! Thanks all!

Thanks to this thread for highlighting that I should be looking around for Broadband.

Had been out of contract with Eir for a long time and never looked into switching. Was paying way over the norm for 500mb Broadband at €88 quid a month.

Have just signed up to Digiweb 1Gb broadband at €29.99 per month.

Thanks for all the information all.

Are you getting the full gig, or anywhere near it? My contract is up with Digiweb, now paying 54 and not happy with the service.

Looking at Vodafone? Are there any conditions that would stop me from signing up to their 500mb going up to €40 after six months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 298 ✭✭shannon82

thinking of joining them, did you have to pay the setup fee?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭NotShero

You should get the full 1Gb with wired ethernet. 5GHz WiFi 6 should be about 750Mb-800Mb when right next to the access point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭Cormo87

Haven't got it installed yet but I'll test the speed when I do.

No mention of a set up fee when signing up, I'll call them and ask.

    I'm looking at Three's 4G broadband - 100MB download / 10MB upload - for €30 a month.

Is there anything I should be wary about?

It's a plug-and-play wireless router, so is my connection speed at the mercy of which way the wind blows? Should I prepare for regular outages during a stormy season? I live in Dublin, fairly central.

I just got keys for a new build in donabate last week and have been trying to sort broadband. Some neighbours have already been in touch with sky/virgin and have planned for it to be installed after Xmas however on bonkers and switcher my eircode is still showing that theres no fibre available when these houses some a couple of meters away have had no issues. Anyone know what I should/can do?
