Nice to hear Rewind on 95.0 FM here in Sligo even though I realise it will soon be replaced by Christmas FM.

This morning Daniel Bedingfield's 'Gotta Get Thru This' was played at 11:32 and again at 11:38, why because they have 2 versions in the playlist, one with the correct Artist and Title and the other with the opposite

And later this evening that "Club Classic" came on Scissor Sisters - 'Filthy / Gorgeous' come on, that's hardly a dance track? I've also heard Kylie Minogue - 'On A Night Like This' on it too

They also haven't updated any of wrong artist/song info
    Darude - 'Sandstorm'
    The Ones - 'Flawless'
Booty Luv - 'Shine' (even the song is labelled Boot Luv)
Energy 52 - 'Cafe Del Mar'
    Spacedust - 'Gym & Tonic'
    Congress - '40 Miles'
    York - 'On The Beach'

They are both dance tracks man, imo!

Heard Freddie Mercury - Living On My Own over the weekend

I like the track, but it doesn't fit the station at all.

Christmas FM officially launches for 2025 on Friday the 28th at midday and DAB is listed as one of their broadcast methods.

You'd think it would be a good time for FailteDAB to extend nationwide as there's likely to be a lot of people travelling by car (and resultant trafffic jams) done over the Christmas period

I wonder is Rewind going to switch to Christmas FM, given that the latter's temporary FM license run starts this Friday and the two stations do seem to be connected. Mind you, there is nothing to stop them doing it now as broadcasts have already commenced online.

Here's your answer: "Christmas FM will be broadcasting live on FM and DAB+ from midday this
Friday 28th November - but you can also listen online RIGHT NOW via our web player, our free app or on your Smart Speaker. Our presenters help spread joy and fun, keeping the nation’s spirits merry and bright as we count down to the big day!"

That doesn't answer the question of whether it will take over from rewind fm or not.

The below is a list of this years frequencies, 8radio is usually on 105.5 in Limerick so I assume Christmas will be taking over that station for the next month

It will replace Rewind, because there is no space for another station on the mux.

And they are owned by the same entity....

Thought they made have switched earlier given Onics early transition to Christmas music

Are rewind costing them selfs listeners to ghr or onic gold by switching over to Christmas FM like there already available all over Ireland on FM

Exactly this. Maybe they’ll temporarily close Rewind as they’ll need the manpower for Christmas FM?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 158 ✭✭Lord Nelson

I’d imagine they’re not overly concerned about losing listeners given that Failte DAB or anyone else has done anything to promote or publicise the service. It’s also only a trial due to end in April with no guarantee of any extension or what if anything comes next. Will be interesting to see if Christmas FM continues after the 27th December on DAB as they’re not time limited to 30 days as is the case with FM? A good opportunity on the 27th to transition listeners from FM to DAB so maybe method in their madness.

No audio on Rewind this morning, but the web stream is still working.

Edit: Checked again around 10am and it's back.

What's the story with BOB Fm? They say "playing whatever" but any time I tune in, I seem to be hearing the same stuff. Had it on for an hour or two today and they played Two Princes twice in that time.

The limited playlists and rotation rules on some of these genre based DAB stations is absolutely shocking. Same songs repeated endlessly, even sometimes after a short period of time.

They simply aren't going to get any momentum with listeners without a solid and varied playlist. They know they are competing with Spotify & Apple Music, right? 🤯

I would agree ,however the success of eg Absolute 80s in the UK ,a station with a limited high rotation playlist, shows that there is a significant audience for this style of programming.

Bob FM , an Irish version of the 'Jack FM format ' that has had mixed success over the years

I have DAB tuner in my car, i have tried to scan a few times when in the Eastern side of the country but never have any luck. Should a DAB tuner work or would it have to have DAB+?

Rewind is gone, replaced by Christmas FM on both DAB and the web stream and app.

Christmas FM loud and proud on Failte

Out doing a bit of shopping and their gaffer is saying the service will stay on after the trial.

The webstream is playing a different Christmas stream, also branded, confusingly, "Christmas FM". https://play.christmasfm.com/rewind/

I listened to Rewind a lot as Rte Gold isn’t as good as it once was and will miss it, not a fan of Christmas music.

+1. Especially in the mornings. I like Will Leahy but he plays far too much modern stuff for what’s supposed to be a gold station.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 844 ✭✭✭Mickey Mike

Another month now and all the RTE digital radio channels will be gone so its its not worth talking about Gold. Let's hope this DAB+ gets going on a permanent basis, I never hear it promoted or advertised anywhere, the same thing with RTE DAB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,528 ✭✭✭Glaceon

RTE Gold isn’t included in the closure. It was the last time they tried, but there was enough pushback that it was kept.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,150 ✭✭✭Infoanon

RTE Gold also provides overnight programming for RTE Radio 1 and has occasionally been carried on Sunday afternoons.

It pays for itself, not that the other digital stations were expensive to carry...…short term thinking....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Ger Roe

Enough pushback…. or contractual obligations? Gold still has some RTE staffers involved. There are some established names there that would generate a heap of unfavourable publicity for RTE if they were cut loose. RTE has been through the PR wars in recent years, could that be a factor too?

While I would accept that RTE Gold is probably the biggest digital radio station in the country, I wonder how big that actually is and how much of a pushback its closure could generate?. The closure of mainstream FM radio stations wouldn't generate as much pushback these days, as my aging anorak outlook would like to think. Blow your car horn for RTE Gold? I don't think so.

Rewind seems to be back on the web at least.
