I think he also supported BV last time I saw them in Whelan’s. Hair is a bit longer but still as angry as ever.

As the Kneecap manager will testify, there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

Wasn't Lorde at the RDS last Saturday fantastic? Excellent performance and great sound. Also, kindest audience I have ever seen: no pushing from any side or back, everyone looking out for another, everyone having a great time. Magic.

Got a new phone and tested the camera at the gig. Some video caps below.

Fantastic photos - was hoping to hear a review of this. I'd originally set out to go but couldn't get a ticket, as it happened I wouldn't have been able to make it but glad to hear it was good.

I would think that perhaps he held off the orchestra a bit more to push the World of Hans Zimmer shows next year, as a selling point, as some people only want to see him.

BTW the World of Hans Zimmer is still totally worth going to! It's amazing hearing his work with a full orchestra.

It was a little over 70 mins, very little talking but perfect for them no need for the chit chat, works for some

Night 2 of 2 of Hans Zimmer in the 3Arena last night.

Another phenomenal performance from the maestro of film scores. I really enjoyed hearing Pearl Harbour and the metal version of The Kraken 🤘 Although I have to say night 1 topped night 2 simply due to an audience that was just more lively and up for it than last night's.

Was at KhakiKid in the Olympia last night. Fantastic headline show, with able support from Joe Butler.

KK is always high-energy and it's great to see the crowd give it back. Saw him first at All Together Now 2023 in the Jameson Circle and hear he did 2 fantastic sets at this years EP.

Another one to watch in the Irish hip-hop/RnB/Pop/Dance scene.

Have to admit I was a little surprised when I saw he was at the Olympia, delighted to hear he had a good crowd for it

Irish music really does seem to be in rude health at the moment, across the board. The likes of Fontaines, CMAT and Kneecap absolutely flying. Dermot Kennedy doing Lansdowne. Amble, Kingfisher seem to have big pull. Then seeing The Scratch doing Iveagh Gardens, Khakikid, For Those I Love, Just Mustard etc doing the Olympia, there really does seem to be great support for new Irish music at the moment, you love to see it

i thought the sound was pretty atrocious, way too much bass, speaker bank on the right of the stage sounded like it had an actual problem to me. She put so much into her performance, pity the Point wasn’t free for it

an aspect i could have lived without was the her spiel about finding her people in Ireland which sounded like something she probably says in every country (though she did acknowledge being an O’Connor.)

Tom Meighan acoustic gig in Opium, 1 hour long, played all the kasabian hits, would have preferred him with his band, some fall from grace from headlining Glastonbury a decade ago.

For all the hype about Glasto they've had plenty of shît headliners in their time.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

It’s taken a while but I think I’ve found the worst venue in Dublin - downstairs in The International Bar. Tiny venue, tiny stage in the wrong place and a stream of drunks passing it to get to the Gents.

Managed to stop myself walking out through two mediocre pub bands with just one decent song between them. Which was lucky because the final act - Bad Mothers Union - were off the charts!

Imagine going to see Velvet Underground playing live in your living room. That’s what it was like. Their musicianship was brilliant, they were so into the songs which all managed to shift gear halfway through and went up to another level.

Only one song on Spotify and 22 followers, they’re playing McDowells on Sunday night. If you like your noise rock you will not be disappointed. 9/10

Hugh Cornwall nomeansno €27 with a hefty €1 service charge in Whelans. After MBV x2 and BV x1 kind of welcome. I was looking at pedal changing most of the evening but some decent post punk songs and covers I've never heard before.

The sound for his show on Thursday night was really poor.

I'm not sure did they think they were playing Croke Park, the volume levels were off the scale. The bass and drums were deafening, I was wincing at times even with ear plugs in, it was uncomfortable.

The choir were drowned out, even the vocalists I struggled to make out in certain songs due to the overpowering bass.

I was at the back of the flat seats there were only 5 rows, Id have thought being too close wouldnt be an issue at an indoor show, never has been in the past in the point.

I would hav eliked a more traditional orchestral production, and also more faithfaul versions of the songs, a good few very very odd and poor, The Dark Knight suite was diabolical, it was just thudding noise.

It picked up alot from about half way through the first set and the second set was much better both soundwise and in faithfulness but that bass, man it was vicious.

The show looked great, serious lighting and screen setup, pity about the sound mix which seems to be getting alot of criticism on reddit for this tour.

Triple bill in the Button Factory tonight of young Irish talent. Bit of a junior disco vibe about the night but then isn't everything at this stage of my life? Headliners Adore were good enough, moving through the gears between indie>rock>punk. Surprised we got an hour long set from them. My third time seeing them and i reckon they could do well. Preceding them were Shark School who were my band of the night. First time for me catching them and they were more interesting than i was expecting. I suspect they've a few Melvins records in their collection as they leaned into some heavier styles and time signatures. Even though i got in at 7.45 i missed most of Burglar's set, only getting the final 3 songs. General indie vibes, i honestly can't remember much about them. They are supporting Belair Lip Bombs in the Grand Social on Monday so i'll catch them there if i decide to go.

There’s heavy metal then death metal then my goodness, doom metalists Siorai Geimhreadh were some heavy sh1t in Anseo tonight. Not sure I could take too much more of that but the middle-aged audience seemed to love them. Three brothers no less. What were their parents listening to?

It was ok. It was a bit like a middle-aged music club where the audience came to support their long and trusted friends as opposed to listen to new music. Is that an Anseo thing?

Bad Manners at the Limelight in Belfast last night as part of their traditional end of year UK and Ireland tour (they're in Dublin tonight). One of those acts that seem to do the same setlist every time you see them (if it ain't broke…) but everyone was up for a party. Like last year the support came from local band Doghouse who gave us half an hour of classic ska tunes.

Also gotta mention the merch stand. Lots of stuff to choose from but nothing that would break the bank! Keyrings, badges, air fresheners, patches all at 2 or 3 quid each. Beenie hats with the band logo were a tenner, t shirts with the tour dates at £20.

Another triple bill tonight, this time in the Grand Social and musically very different to last night. Doom and Sludge on the menu this evening. First band was an American lot, Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean who were loud, heavy and set the tone nicely. Second act was Slomatics from Belfast. Now i do like their brand of sludgy riffs but the vocals are way too 'rock opera' for my tastes. Finally we had Scousers (and one Dub), Conan, who were on top form. I enjoyed them a lot more this time than the previous occasion. Heavy, loud and big dirty riffs of varying tempo. Very nice indeed. Decent turnout for a wet Sunday night too.

I don't think i've ever seen those barrels up the front in Whelans before. Clearly expected a very sedate crowd!

The lottery winners - Grand social 28/11.

Like 80% of music I've discovered the lottery winners through Frank Turner, who would constantly joke that he asked them to open for him on the hopes they'd return the favour when they were playing stadiums, since the last time I saw them they've amassed 2 UK No1 albums, and supported some lad named Robbie Williams on his stadium tour, including a stop in Dublin at croke park.

That show made up a bulk of the crowd interaction, with jokes about how small the venue was aplenty by frontman Thom Ryland, who's ADHD energy was balanced by a surprisingly decent set of pipes, very North east England but slightly smoother. This was complimented by bassist Katie Lloyd, who might be one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen.

90 minutes of upbeat indy pop, a surprisingly Good Natalie imbruglia cover, a fully choreographed crowd participation section that even had the bar staff joining in, finishing with a massive sing along.

A perfect Saturday night show by a band that probably won't play a venue that small again, next summer they are playing a stadium, and they have invited Turner.

The Belair Lip Bombs in the Grand Social.

Really good. Much more punchy live than on record. They could be big.

Was there myself. Brought my 18 year old daughter as well. She loved them. Thought they were very funny and as you say, they really interact with the audience. Saw them earlier this year in The Workman's. Absolutely in love with them.

A great vibe in The Sugar Club last night (my first time there) for the 'All for Barbara' charity event.

Rhiannon Giddens | Francesco Turrisi | Niwel Tsumbu | Eamonn Cagney, performed for a very engaged audience 😎

A chilled support slot by Krea (Karen Cowley) from Wyvern Lingo, who joined the others on stage for a stirring version of 'I shall not be moved'.

It doesn't suit every show but I do love the Sugar Club when it's the right kind of gig.

Jah Wobble & the Invaders of the Heart - Roisin Dubh, Galway Wednesday December 3rd.

This was an amazing gig and my first proper rock one in about three months. Going right back to a reworked and jigged up Public Image Ltd, there was so many emotions in this gig, I heard snatches of I Shot the Sherriff, maybe a Siouxsie & the Banshees melody, some great psychedelic indie rock with incredible squelches of feedback veering into drum n bass. Wobble has a really tight band with an amazing keyboard player, ambient lounge jazz at times but really nice and not boring, the band could at times be mistaken for Randy Crawford's backing band the Crusaders with some of the jazzy funk forays but they could suddenly melt into incendiary punk rock. I really enjoyed this gig despite the manky damp weather outside, met my festival buddy Cork Dave who has been to about 3 or 4 gigs around the country within the last week seeing Gary Numan last night in Dublin. Met a few of my session playing buddies and met @seathrun briefly outside the Roisin Dubh at the end of the night, I miss his arguments with Fanirish in Gigs and Events. You lot in Limerick, Cork and Dublin are in for a treat with Jah Wobble, enjoy.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Last gig of the year for me tonight. Starsailor in the Academy. Good show, worth the trip up to Dublin on a work night.
