That "documentary" last night was out and out tabloid crap. I'm sure those part taking didn't know how it would be sliced and diced but they come across very poorly and it was a poor choice for the two councillors in particular knowing how the media can cut things up anyway they like. Why the councillors felt they were authorities on DJ, enough to make an appearance on that programme shows very poor judgement in my opinion. The "journalist & author" really has the bit between her teeth and it's not a good look. Really poor programming from RTE.

What DJ did was disgusting and he is where he belongs and what came out at the trial is only the tip of the iceberg by all accounts. However the personal stuff is not called for and if they think it informs his motives for his later behaviour it's incredibly poorly framed and comes across as total smear campaign.

The only thing I took from that program last night was reminding me how great he was on the field. It's a long time since I saw that many clips of him playing. It brought me back to being on the canal end in 92 and 93. The rest of the programme was bottom feeding muck.

DJ is being punished for his crimes and I have no problem with the likes of the Primetime programme highlighting what he did. When you're in the public eye and you do wrong, expect to be hauled over the coals and I'd have no sympathy for him. Last night was terrible for his family who had no part in his crimes. To have some of the shitest times in their lives be paraded in front of the whole country for no reason but to smear a man who's already convicted is very poorly judged.

If they wanted to make the case that DJ's behaviour post 2000 started to change and it had an influence on his later crimes then they chose a really bad way of telling that story.

speaking as a big GAA man and very involved in GAA in my locality moreso football but I absolutely love hurling and I worshipped the ground DJ walked on - for many a long year, until recent revelations let’s say …

I found the intrusion into his private life a bit unsavoury but it needs to be out there and in public.

He did so much damage and was such a “two faced rat” over the years - for example the Thai girl he brought over to work as a so-called au pair - I think we all know the subtext of what was going on there - the wife didn’t tolerate it.

Maybe the Thai was involved in some element of DJ various scams he had running? It might trigger a victim of his to come forward.

i was Dj number 1 fan for many years. So for me to say this is a turn up for the books.

Of course never nice to see it all down and dirty laid out like dirty underwear but RTÉ have good reasons.

That’s my 2 cents on it.

As stated above what sticks out most about DJ from the Documentary was his unbelievable ability at such a young age, the clips of him catching high ball at such a young age in the inside forward line created such an advantage, rarely seen underage nowadays, the side step, striking off his left and right, he had no problem working hard and getting stuck in either. He was way ahead of his time. The rest of it was a waste of time and an invasion of privacy to family members.

They've been in Dublin a good few years so negotiations could still be ongoing 😅
