I went through same issue with Flogas a few months back, also being eventually asked to re-sign up again. By that stage I was already signed up with Electric Ireland who had me sorted in 48hrs.

Was after their fixed rate, but EI ended up being cheaper with their discount on offer at the time, but I do also expect a price hike come the spring.

Just done the annual switch 21.11.2025 (non-smart plans).

Was with energia electric 38% discount @ 26.44c since price rise, and SSE for gas 20% discount 0.091c since price rise (inc VAT).

Moved to Fixed Dual Fuel with SSE as their fixed electricity 0.2463c (standing €240.97) & gas 0.074c (standing €152.31) were best for me (all inc VAT).

FloGas was close, but I've had issues there, and their standing charge for elec is a bit higher. Gas and elec rates were 0.02409 (standing €275.39) and 0.0741 (standing €151.18).

Yuno was also in the mix 0.25 (standing €207.08) and 0.0754 (standing €150.03).

Others, even with advertised discounted plans / cashback weren't really at the races.

    BG 0.2912 / 0.0793, EI 0.2641 / 0.0845 and Energia 0.3199 / 0.0845

Anyone know if this welcome bonus and plan is available to existing renewals?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭esker72

Was on EI with 30% and came to end of contract and they offered 24%. Flogas was cheaper but given the problems and delays reported here I ended up sticking with EI for another year. Reckoned any big delays with Flogas would result in big bills with EI which would eat into the price difference. Energia, BordGais etc, don't seem to be even trying to compete

Anyone having recently switched to flogas? Are they still facing delays?

I called them and they said issues are resolved but i prefer to hear real stories and not sales people words...

Im due to switch end of this week and the fixed plans work best for both my e and g

The smart ev deals out there don't seem to be the greatest, from looking its perhaps Electric Ireland seem to have the best one per the below unless I am missing something? We have a hybrid car so only need to charge it 2-3 hours max per night.

    Day: 08.00 - 23.00

    30.53c per kWh

    Night: 23.00 - 08.00

    15.05c per kWh

    Night Boost: 02.00 - 04.00

    8.84c per kWh

    Gas unit price

    9.390c per kWh

there is no value in dual fuel at the moment.
switch to Flogas fixed or SSE at 7.4c unit for gas.

9.39 for Gas is way too high. There's much better value out there atm

I always used to think of it that the saving on the charge of the car outweighed the slight more expensive gas rate, in particular during the summer when hardly using gas. Although this SSE Airtricity rates are pretty decent in comparison:

    Meter type

    Fixed rate
    inc. VAT

    Standard rate
    inc. VAT

    Smart Day
(8am to 11pm excluding peak times)

    26.07

    43.52

    Smart Night

    16.75

    27.97

    Smart Peak
    (5pm to 7pm)

    29.20

    48.74

    Gas Meter

    Meter type

    Fixed rate
    inc. VAT

    Standard rate
    inc. VAT

    Cent per kWh

    7.40

    11.38

go with Electric Ireland night boost for electricity, which will charge EV hybrid with 14kw in 2 hours and gas only with Flogas or SSE

My contract is up on Jan 3rd with Boird Gais, do you have to wait until just before that date to switch? It would be great to just call these providers this week and ask them to switch everything over on that date. Has anyone done that?

I usually do it about 1-2 weeks before contract expiry.

If your contract is up on January 3rd you switch on January 4th.

yes but can you tell the company you are switching to to only switch over on that date if I contact them early December?

Just want to avoid any fees for moving prior to contract ending.

My contract up with Energia tomorrow for electricity and Wednesday for Gas. I rang and they best they could offer was 28c Elec & 7.5c gas (ex-vat) plus €100 cash back.

I ended up singing up on bonkers with 1Yr Fixed SSE for Dual fuel 24.63 Elec / Gas 7.4 incl VAT.

I received a welcome email earlier from SSE I didn't realise the switchover would be done so fast hence the exit fee with Energia (are they super strict on the exit fees)

I signed up with flogs this morning, moved from electric Ireland and go and email confirming soon after, they must have gotten through the backlog, they have a good cashback offer at the moment

Not a chance I'd trust any of them to do that correctly. Just wait.

There's no real average household. It's not hard to gather up the bills for the year and see how much you used in the year.

Then put that into bonkers/switcher/etc (and make sure you tick the box to show all plans.

There's a lot of dark patterns to hide ones that they don't get a commission

why bother with the hassle of that? Switch the day after your contract ends, go off bonkers/energypal etc. If it takes a day or two to switch, who cares? The increased unit price isnt active for long enough to really matter.

Yes, if you switch a day early, youre likely to be stung for them

No point in asking what the best deal is if you have no idea what your use is. The average household electricity usage in Ireland is 4,200 kWh per year, according to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).

This figure can vary significantly depending on several factors, including:

    • Size of the house: Larger homes generally consume more electricity.
    • Number of occupants: More people in a household typically means higher usage.
    • Level of insulation and energy efficiency: Well-insulated homes with energy-efficient appliances will use less electricity for heating and cooling.
    • Types of appliances used: Appliances like electric showers, tumble dryers, and immersion heaters are major electricity consumers.
    • Presence of gas heating: Homes primarily heated by gas will have lower electricity consumption for heating.

I decided to remain with EI on their 24 percent discount retention deal.

Did any provider do a Black Friday deal on electricity last year?

Any smell of a Black Friday deal for this year-a real one.

I suspect BG might pop their head up alright, as their current plans (non-smart, at least) seem crap compared to the others!
