But yea, take the word of a guy who had to ask who hit who, in the middle of one of the fights the last night.

I gave you the link, and quoted he relevant part. It was rhetorical really. Guess it's best to pretend ignore it when it proves you're wrong.

And I understand exactly what you said, it's just incorrect. I already pointed out that people tend to use sprain for minor injury, and tear for more serious. But the point that you can't seem to get over that treating it as an absolute distinction, means you make incorrect assumptions.

It's really simple. You assumed DC/Shavkat was claiming it was a serious knee injury, as you incorrect thought MCL tear describes "a very serious injury". That assumption and understanding was wrong.

Yeah, I think and injury claim post fight with pinch of salt. Fighter love to overplay injuries postfight, and underplay them pre fight.

Are you saying that most people that heard the news thought it wasn't a serious injury? You are way off the mark if you think that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 770 ✭✭✭barryribs

    "What most people thought"

    Vs.

    Clinical, scientific diagnosis

    Your off your head

I'm sorry, did we get a clinical, scientific diagnosis from Daniel Cormier?

I understand public perception a lot better than you do.

So grow up and stop trying to insult somebody who laughs at it and knows your level of intelligence because on your posts.

A sprain is a tear. This is an indisputable fact. If you fail to grasp that, then take Mellors advice, and ignore it when you are inevitably proven wrong again

I understand that. I'm saying that minor tears are reported in the media using the term sprain. If they are injuries that require surgery they call them tears. I linked a couple of examples of this in a previous post.

I'm not talking about what medical experts call them, I'm saying what terms the media use.

So DC comes out and says it's torn which suggests to the public that he shouldn't even be able to fight.

I understand public perception and I know what people make of his comment.

This is what I've been saying all along.

And if you go into a doctor he's going to tell you it's a sprain, he'll explain it's a slight tear and what you need to do and everything.

If it's very serious he'll tell you it's a very serious tear and what the prognosis is. He's not going to tell you it's a sprain if you need surgery.

I'm dealing with a tear of my bicep and shoulder. It's going on 6 months and it'll take another six to fully heal. I was told it's a serious enough tear but doesn't need surgery. I wouldn't be able to get into a ring with it because I'd be in agony if I moved it the wrong way. There's no chance Shavkat was fighting with something as serious as what I'm dealing with and it's not even that serious on the scale of injuries.

So DC makes it sound very serious and the public believe that. If he said it was a light sprain then the public would know it wasn't serious.

Anyone that assume it was a serious injury was pretty foolish imo. As we literally just seen him fight. So on the range of severity of ligament injures, it was clearly to the minor end. Aside from that, assuming that all ligament tears are serious is a bad assumption.

I've no doubt that people did assume that (you did obviously). But an incorrect assumption being common doesn't make it any less incorrect.

I understand that. I'm saying that minor tears are reported in the media using the term sprain. If they are injuries that require surgery they call them tears. I linked a couple of examples of this in a previous post.

And I provided an example that proved that claim wrong. Izzy fought and won with a "tear"., as report in the media. He didn't require surgery. DC's comments also proved that wrong.

The media simply reports on what ever info they are given. Thinking that are making a judgement on the severity is misguided. They they have no clue. Shavkat probably had an MRI, which referred to a tear. It's that simple.

I'm not talking about what medical experts call them, I'm saying what terms the media use.

So DC comes out and says it's torn which suggests to the public that he shouldn't even be able to fight.

I understand public perception and I know what people make of his comment.

This is what I've been saying all along.

Who cares what a random MMA fans perceive anyway. We're talking about what you said, in this thread.
You claimed that all ligament tears are serious That was your perception. Which was wrong.

Just because people are generally misl

And if you go into a doctor he's going to tell you it's a sprain, he'll explain it's a slight tear and what you need to do and everything.

If it's very serious he'll tell you it's a very serious tear and what the prognosis is. He's not going to tell you it's a sprain if you need surgery.

The MRI report won't use vague or everyday language, and they won't switch between terms. If the scan shows its a light sprain, they MRI doctor will report it as a grade 1 tear.

I'm dealing with a tear of my bicep and shoulder. It's going on 6 months and it'll take another six to fully heal. I was told it's a serious enough tear but doesn't need surgery. I wouldn't be able to get into a ring with it because I'd be in agony if I moved it the wrong way.

That's a muscle injury (aka strain). Not ligament. Not really similar to a ligament to be honest. Bastard to heal.

There's no chance Shavkat was fighting with something as serious as what I'm dealing with and it's not even that serious on the scale of injuries.

It's a total different injury. You can't compare them. There's no suggestion that was debilitated to that degree. There have been athlete completely torn their ACLs. Nothing left of the ligament., and continued to play whole seasons.

    anyway back on topic,

Rankings updated. No movement for Shavkat or Garry.
Joaquin Buckley up 2 places to 5, Colby down 2 places.

Sets up Garry v Colby imo.

Ian Garry is a weird dude. He won last night but I just can't stand his interviews.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,331 ✭✭✭✭Rjd2

    A bit forced .

It was a nice win, pretty much drowned a dangerous fighter on a few weeks notice.

I'd like him to fight Brady and the winners get JDM/Belal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

The other lad had a weeks notice too ,

Hes good but hes not what he thinks he is , Hes very borning to watch but effective , i dont think he has a good chin

Lets not forget he just beat 14th ranked & almost got stopped

Really enjoyed Jack Della's response when asked about Ian Garry sending his kid to give JDM peanut M&Ms to try throw off his fight-week weight cut:

    "I don't think that's Ian Garry's son" 🤣

Huge fight tonight for this weirdo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 42,006 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

How many fighters do you know that aren't weird in some way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,771 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

    Haha very true.

He needs a convincing win here though. Sliding down the cards. From PPVs to 2nd last in non US primetime Fight Nights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭hawaii501

I reckon he'll win by points, 2 decision merchants tonight.

Hopefully a dominant win and get in line for the title shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,771 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

He should just take Belal down and dry hump him in half guard for the whole fight.

    Works for Makhachev.

Nice win for Machado Garry, surely a title fight next.

Think Garry probably has enough to give everyone a fight in the division apart from Islam and Shavkat. Unfortunately for him they will be the two most likely champs in the division when fit.

It's a shame he's incredibly f ucking annoying because he's very, very good. I just suspect he won't get over the line in a fight for the belt.

Dagestan. Not only are they boring, they're classless c<nts too.

They are animals, always causing trouble.

Wish Garry took his head off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,900 ✭✭✭EagererBeaver

Yeah that wasn't going to happen. Khamzat sound obliterate him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,223 ✭✭✭hawaii501

Yeah I know, was hoping for a lucky shot :)

Khamzat always thinking he's the hardest.

Garry is missing something. He’s like a boxer content to win on points. No real sense a urgency or killer instinct with him. Plays it safe!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,315 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Last night was the UFC’s first ever card in Qatar, which I think will be a huge market going forward, similar to Abu Dhabi.

Garry is a very smart technical fighter. It’s just a shame Islam is champion, against JDM he would have had a real shot. Not sure anyone does against Islam.

He was damn lucky not to be disqualified last night poking the eyes
