Who's the 1️⃣ who voted against the release of the Epstein files last night…and why 🤔.

Curtual and social aspects of issues, something that's rarely discussed, mainly because society wouldn't be able to have a good look at itself.

How come an area that, up to say 10 years ago, was considered borderline dangerous, is now the place to move to? Are people sheep?

Ah yes, people are sheep but not me.

Are you the wolf, the sheep dog or one of the goats, then? :pac:

I am a peeple. Others are sheeple.

    AI Overview

"People" became the plural of "person" because it evolved from the Old French word peeple, which was a collective noun for a group of individuals. Over time, "people" began to be used as a plural for "person" in both countable and uncountable contexts, a practice that was eventually seen as acceptable in modern English despite the historical existence of the regular plural "persons".

Another one, why do so many sons murder their mother? It seems to be mostly sons murdering their mothers, although daughters murdering their mothers or children of either sex murdering their parents happens as well. Is it mental illness or a psychotic episode? is it paranoia after drug use. Is there a strong inherent element to metal illness?

Schizophrenia most likely. Hearing voices and what not. Cannabis apparently can bring it on if you're prone to it.

Men tend to be more violent in general than women.

In a number of recent cases news reports have referred to solicitors, representing the person arrested, making applications to the court that their client receive the appropriate medical and psychiatric assessment / care while in custody. It would appear to be something a number of such cases have in common.

That must be Nigel with the brie...

Why are so many female teachers having affairs with male students?

It is happening non-stop in America. Google it and you get so many results. Even in UK and here it is quite a common occurance but I can't remember the last time I heard about a male teacher having an affair with a female student.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 827 ✭✭✭Anois_

They'd be labelled as a predator so not worth the hassle is why no male teachers would do it.

You won't have heard about the ones who kept it a secret.

I think a lot of the youngfelas who do this tell their best friends because they think its super cool but the word then makes it back to parents & school.

Less likely chain of events with other gender combos

I doubt that: teen girls tell each other everything. Studies have shown that a paedophile will target boys, not because the paedos are gay but because boys are much less likely to tell anyone about the abuse than girls are.

A bottle of Vodka was twenty odd Punts when I used to buy the odd one what must be over twenty years ago. I noticed they're still around twenty Euros. I've an inkling we were being robbed.

The two main things I wonder about are (a) if God created the universe, where was He before the big bang, and (b) what happened to Hungary they used to be so great at football.

I don't think we'll ever know the answers to these mysteries.

They haven't qualified for a world cup since 1986.

Going down that rabbit hole I presume that god is infinite and time does not exist for that being.

Expanding on this , one thing I wonder about sometimes is the concept of infinite universe or multi verses. I can’t get my head around that , even when science says “yeh that’s possible” it nearly makes my head hurt.

So black holes are theoretically probable but what happens inside them is a mystery. Maybe we came from a big bang, how is that considered fairly standard and accepted possibility (that a random explosion of something creates everything we see).

I’m not disputing Science efforts to explain or theory , it’s just these things are made for layman to just go “ah yeh, well scientists think it’s possible so why not”. But if there is infinite universes , is it still not possible some laws of physics change which may allow super beings to? I mean isn’t it possible we live in a simulation? (Think that’s a theory)

So, at risk of looking like I’m religious (I’m not; I’m simply not anti religious), I don’t get how people can adopt absolutely insane sounding explanations for the universe “that science says is possible” and quickly dismiss there’s some sort of higher being using our universe as a play ground.

I am not so sure they "dismiss" the possibility in your last paragraph so much as they say it explains nothing because all the same questions you would be asking about the universe - just move backwards one step to that "super being".

It's called the "infinite regress" problem in the debates I think. Or "turtles all the way down" as it has sometimes been described, probably as a pun on Hindu mythology.

I love this stuff but find if you ever hear technical stuff being discussed it’s hard to follow.

I guess I meant lay people who don’t understand the proper science behind the bang or infinite universes (most of us I imagine) would scoff at people who believe in a higher power and adopt whatever scientific theory is on the table “cause science”. I don’t see everything coming from an explosion or we live in a simulation any less crazy then a magician with a beard.

I think the use of the word 'possible' is being used in two ways here.

In one sense, it's can mean 'totally in line with the laws of physics' (in the same way it's possible for me to win the lotto)

That's not what's meant when someone says 'parallel universes are possible '. What's they're saying is that we don't know if the rules of physics allow it or forbid it. So it's possible but it's possible that it's impossible...

Here's something that will blow your mind.

If you removed all the empty space in every human the entire human race would fit in a space the size of a sugar cube.

Makes you wonder what the hell we're all made of.

So you are saying every humans brain is full of wasted space?

Then also bones are hardly wasted space either?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,622 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

All empty space. Something to do with electrical signals I think that holds us all together.

It's about the empty space inside atoms. Atoms are 99% empty of stuff, disregarding energy
