Thanks. Dunno much about this stuff but isn't 3TB loads of data, more than enough for me and the missus who are only using BBC for day to day stuff. The man I was talking to did say that it was low and I would exceed it. I'll get back on to them and check it out.

I signed up for the Digiweb Switcher offer on Monday, they rang me yesterday and the modem was dispatched today so things are moving swiftly.

The offer was confirmed to me on the phone yesterday , 1GB broadband, 6000 minutes to Ireland and UK landlines and 1,500 anytime minutes to any Irish/UK mobile numbers.

I got some documents emailed from Digiweb yesterday but no prices mentioned in it.

I will ask for confirmation in writing.

The offer seems to have gone up to 37.95 per month on the Switcher site now.

Thanks for sharing this. I had no idea than in 2025 there will be limits in data usage... How old fashion

This is a deal breaker for me unfortunately:-(

It's still there. it's €37.95pm for 1Gb SIRO, not OpenEir. It's there until the 31st of December according to this -

I'd consider my house to be heavy usage without being involved in any downloading/uploading so plenty of devices streaming constantly. We'd go through 1-2Tb a month. Once I reached 3Tb and that was from a crazy amount of 4k streaming when covid hit and up all night.

Thanks, that gives me an idea of what 3tb means

Virgin Media Red Friday offer launched today -

If you buy 1Gb/2Gb/5Gb broadband and TV, you get a free 43" TCL TV.

    1Gb BB - €45pm & TV - €17pm. €62pm for 12 months.

Must be with Virgin for 28 days, TV will then be dispatched.

Sky has 1GB Broadband, Netflix and Sky TV for 42 a month.

I assume that's Netflix basic plan, so would have to pay extra to upgrade to premium? Likewise with Sky TV.

€12 extra for the 4K plan with Sky. Comparable to getting a Ukrainian sub for a tenner tbh.

Currently looking to change from Vodafone for my parents - the offer's they were making were terrible, on top of which they have the April increase.

Between sky (30 eur) and Pure telecom (35 eur) at the moment, both don't show any mid-contract increases.

Presuming either should be alright, and Eir are the only ones to be avoided if possible?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

Along as it's OpenEir fibre, there's the 1Gb Digiweb offer on Switcher mentioned above for €30pm for 12 months. €45pm out of contract.

Eir shouldn't be avoided, the customer service has been quite good lately in my experience.

sky 30 for me last year increased in April and there was no talking to them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,908 ✭✭✭Nollog

Was that TV or something? I've been with sky for broadband for 4 years now with no increase in price. ("New" account's every 12 months)

Edit: Maybe it's an open eir line you're on? Im on siro.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,178 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Nope, siro 500 at 30 quid. It was a year 2 same price renewal and went up in April mid year

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

The 500Mb got a price increase but the 1Gb didn't IIRC. You have the option to leave when the price increase isn't mentioned at the outset of the contract, like Sky and Virgin Media have done in the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,178 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

Correct, I could have left but 34 was still cheaper than 35 elsewhere and I got 5% back with ptsb.

I've gone for the Switcher Digiweb SIRO offer.

Anyone have SIRO install recently? Is the ONT a single unit now or is there a separate termination box & ONT?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

It's an all in one ONT & NTU with SIRO on GPON anyway, and am pretty sure it is too on XGS-PON.

NBI have them together also whereas OpenEir still have them separate.

Switched to Digiweb on the 29.99 for 1gb offer this week. Openeir.
Great price so we are happy.

Just a caution - The Zyxel router they provide, whilst being Wifi 6 is on the low end, has pretty poor signal coverage and throughput. Not much better than older Wifi5 modems. I can see the signal:noise ratio is worse when compared with the Sky modem I used for the past year.

Also, it is incompatible with the existing OpenEir ONT. Max 100mb ethernet speed coming from the WAN port when connected to Huawai ONT, so internet capped at that. Digiweb support confirmed this issue is known with older ONTs and the Zyxel.. they have booked an OpenEir call out to replace the ONT.

For now, so I could get 1gb I switched back to the Fritzbox I got from Pure (2 years ago) and configured it under PPPOE over the phone to Digiweb.

Does anyone else think it's nuts that if you switch each year you get another modem left behind gathering dust when they mostly all can connect to other services?

I've got 5 modems now: Virgin, Vodafone, Sky Hub, Digiweb (Zyxel), Pure (Fritzbox)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,178 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

I've never taken my sky ones out of the box and they come looking for them afterwards. I used my few fritz ones so set up a mesh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,614 ✭✭✭Zardoz

I signed up for the same offer but my modem was sent to an address 150 miles away !

Eir disconnected my Broadband yesterday morning so I got onto Digiweb and their customer support guy was excellent, I got an Archer VR400 I have configured and its working well.

The only flaw is that it has no phone port so I cant connect my home phone. Wondering is there some adapter I can use because the Zyxel doesnt sound great at all.

Just cancelled Vodafone there and they asked to bring back the router to their store. Unsure if they follow up on that if you don't!

So will be going with either Sky or Pure telecom - any preference based on the standard of routers they provide?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,027 ✭✭✭cmac2009

So Sky dont mention any yearly price increases when signing up, but obviously they have T&C which allow them do so, and you can cancel if desired. But they dont pull that stunt every year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,867 ✭✭✭ongarite

Sky price is fixed for the 12 months but if you just continue out of contact, you will be subject to the April CPI increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,453 ✭✭✭NotShero

No it doesn't work like that, there's no set April price increase with Sky. But they can increase prices within the contract but this then gives you the option to cancel.

How much extra did you get hit for? Any idea how long this sky deal will be available for or if you can sign up a month before start date?
