Graham Nortons show still pulls in 2.9 million live viewers in the UK, with more overseas. I think Kielty's show only pulls in about 600,000 live viewers a show now?

Interestingly, Norton salary is about 2.9 million euro. Kielty is paid much less per viewer than that. Kielty settles for it though as he knows he has no other option and is lucky to get it, as he attracts less viewers now than tubs did in his final season of the late late. At least the BBC are not discriminating against the Irishman born in our Irish Republic, he is doing well for himself. And Norton holidays here and has a holiday home here, Kielty never did, so I would say Norton is more Irish.

No matter how much I dislike RTÉ and TLLS, I think your comparison is not great here.

The UK population is 12 times that of Ireland's yet GN is only 7 times greater than that of TLLS. TLLS is only getting about 400K (when you include +1 and the player, if even).

And you have a problem with Northern Irish people, Mary McAleese server 2 terms as president of this republic, while plenty of Irish broadcaster worked in the UK (I was going to go with Eamonn Andrews but he also commuted between Ireland and UK when on TV).

My issue with PK is who replaces him when he goes, I don't think PK sees this as a longer term gig. Who has RTÉ supported over the years to take his place when he does decide to go?

We should soon have word on if this will be his last season on TLLS or if he has extended his contract.

But Kielty never lived in this state. I do not think he ever even holidayed in this state, let alone has a holiday home here, like Byrne had, like Norton has.

I do not think Kielty looks on it as a long term gig, or he would have moved here. His website is still based in England. Wonder who will be next and if they can revive it. Even Tubrity had better numbers in his final year.

Tubs number where predicated on a number of facts as I see them. The death of a number of well known people in 2019/2020, Covid 19 and his exit all giving him generally good viewers, prior to this his audience numbers were falling.

As for PK he clearly takes an interest in Ireland from a cultural perspective, and he has a home in the north and his wider family continue to still live in the north.

I agree, I don't think Kielty see this as a long term gig (I think his production company has its eyes on the series but not with him as presenter). For RTÉ I think they saw it as a stop gap between Tubs and the next presenter, knowing they'd done little to promote someone to that position, but what have they really done in the last 2 and a half years to find a new host? Ciaran Cuddihy? :/
