I could never agree with a country who prevents innocent children from fleeing when their country is being invaded by a genocidal regime.

I also like that I live in a country who doesn't deport or repatriate citizens back to a country at war.

The recent lifting on the ban on 18-22 year olds traveling abroad was not designed to let them leave, moreso give them a reason to stay and not flee right before their 18th. They can finish their studies, keep familes together etc... and not be left with a generation missing.

More and more western media now picking up on this big corruption scandal that broke on Sunday. A number of former and current government ministers are currently being questioned and a number of businessmen fled the country hours before their properties and offices were raided.

Seems to of been going on for a while with 1000 hours of calls and conversations taped with a few released already.

Zelensky has welcomed the investigation by NABU and says convictions will follow. Quite a few people going on about that Flamingo missile and the company behind it along with energy companies pocketing cash meant for protecting energy facilities that were never made.

A high estimate of about 60 leopard tanks destroyed some burned I would think couldn't give that many chips?

All to do with why Zelensky tried to stop the anti corruption agencies a while back with the protests following.

Seems he’s now being vindicated on that one.

Not to mention young men of the videogame era will make the best drone pilots.

BBC covering this now. It's bad obviously but shows the difference between Ukraine and Russia. Putin would never allow such an investigation and they're all at it regardless even himself.

We need more of the above to clean up Ukraine which helps it's war effort and will ultimately lead it into the EU.

These anti-corruption actions are the reward for the fight back from Ukrainian citizens who protested en masse preventing Zelensky from crippling NABU. Justice is always slow but hopefully these guys get what they deserve.

Personally I don't think Zelensky would do this himself but did he try cover for his buddies? He probably thought they could do without this in times of war.

If Putin has the urge to persecute the BBC it's a little bit different than the orange guy getting on the BBC's case in the White House ;D

I've never been as worried about Ukraine as I am at the moment. The army seems to be creaking under phenomenal Russian pressure

Well there's a joke in there somewhere but I'm not sure how it goes!

    Deep fried chips?

Ukraine has fall back lines in Luhansk, they have been preparing there for 11 years. But their wish to not escalate things and traitors among their ranks meant that Russia had easy gains in the past in the south and is now threatening a breakout where there may not be good defences. Russia is experimenting with turning off the Internet, probably to disable resistance to a new mobilisation to keep the meat waves going.

More of putin's terrorist state infrastructure is mysteriously catching fire:

Looks like that loan guarantee by Norway for the Russian assets was not true according to Stoltenberg today. Further discussions on Thursday to discuss options available.

It's a worrying time but still some here are in denial. Ukraine is not getting enough help and the West seems to be increasingly disengaging, Trump of course most of all

Just proves militarily Europe had dropped the ball. We need America and it's up to Europe to create a situation where we don't.

BBC Upspun World on BBC2 talking about the war now.

The scoffing at the Russians seems to have died away though, in this thread anyway. Don't see much mention of them bringing troops to the front line in golf carts & Ladas any more…

But they are, they've exhausted what appeared to be a inexhaustible Cold War inventory. The concept of an overwhelming Russian advance is now based on meat waves of troops and Chinese and North Korean artillery shells and drones.

The Russian economy is in freefall, without the war economy, but the reason they're are still going, is the fact is they have their own comprised bitch as US president. That is the long and short of it. Europe are scrambling to rearm, its really difficult to do it without the US in the short term.

Reports Ukraine has pushed Russia out of Rodynske. This allows them to keep supplying Myronohrad through Rivne. Also reports Ukraine liberated more territory north of the railway in Pokrovsk. Reports also that Pokrovsk is drawing in Russian troops from other fronts, including Sumy, Kostyantivka, and possibly even Kupiansk. That might relieve some pressure on those fronts.

Just read this article. What a disgrace that our Western governments stand by and let this happen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,065 ✭✭✭rogber

Don't forget China. Russia also has active support from China, probably in much more ways than we see. So basically the two most powerful countries in the world are actively or implicitly on Russia's side which is why today Ukraine is probably in a worse position than at any time since the early stages of the war

2 things can be true at the same time.

Ukraine is creaking under a massive Russian attack (which every indication shows is costing Russia massive casualties).

But Russia is desperate. A report during the week estimated 75% of their artillery shells are being supplied by North Korea. Their oil industry is sanctioned/being blown up by Ukraine.

They are using Chinese golf carts and all kinds of associated junk to try and break the ukranian line.

A massive IF....but IF Ukraine can hold on for as along as possible around Pokrovsk it will drain Russia of manpower and equipment similar to that of verdun. Putin has commanded his generals to take the city by the end of next month so you can imagine the pressure they're under (and what little regard they have for casualties).

I don't believe they are disengaging but the level of effort still isn't enough. Pre Trump the US was providing (otoh) ~ 20 % of the financing/economic support to keep Ukraine going and about half of military support with a lot of that probably in weapons only the US can provide. That is a 0 now, so everyone else who wants Ukraine to survive has to pay for that shortfall.

Was reading other day that weapons the US is now selling through the "PURL" programme (I think) are being slow walked by Trump admin. as well. The brain dead US government "shutdown" circus they enjoy engaging in mainly to torture their detested federal civil servant class every few years for entertainment of voters was blamed for it (hopefully that is over now).

Maybe not where you're looking, but it's still being talked about. There's videos of them moving towards Pokrovsk under cover of heavy fog and it's all bikes, old vans,…

    Untitled Image

Sure, they're pushing Ukraine back bit by bit but there is no way you can look at the Russians going into Pokrovsk and see them as a modern, powerful army. All they do is bomb **** and then send in meatwaves, most armies can do that if they have enough manpower and the will to throw those lives away for nothing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,790 ✭✭✭✭TheValeyard

think they have realised (those in command) that Ukraine can easily use drones to take out armour. So just send your meatwaves in on any old sh1te to try gain ground. No real loss if your loose the sh1tbox when your meatwaves dies.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

I absolutely agree, "They should send all their 18 year olds to train, then straight to the front line"… did you ever hear such rubbish ?

"Johnny, take off that hurling jersey now, say goodbye to your mother and head away up to the Curragh for 6 months training, then take your new Steyr AUG and head onto the frontline.

Nevermind the FPV drones thatll cut you in half , youll be grand sure, I'll follow you on my laptop here in front of the fire, good lad"

I reckon the lad who came out with that isnt a parent and if they are I dont believe for one second theyd be so cavalier in their attitude to sending, what are basically big kids to their slaughter on the frontline.

The armchair general scutter talk on here at times is ridiculous, the same heros would probably s**t themselves and then be the first to up and leave with their families if a similar situation were to unfold here.
