I just read the article in today's Spiegel after seeing your post.

Since his release he has been issued with a mobile phone for the authorities to be able to contact him, an ankle tag and has two plainclothes police officers assigned to him, for his own protection and to keep an eye on him. The police officers, while ununiformed, wear their guns and truncheons unconcealed, follow him everywhere - literally like his shadow - and this in itself is drawing attention to him wherever he sets foot.

Attempts were made to house him in an apartment, but locals became aware of his presence and demanded his eviction. Further attempts at hotel accommodation also failed as soon as management became aware of who he was. And so he is currently sleeping in a tent, hidden in a bush in a public park in Kiel, Northern Germany. Winters are cold and windy there.

He is complaining bitterly about not knowing a moment's peace since his release and even travelled to the public prosecutor's offices in Braunschweig to confront them as to his hopeless situation, due to them having accused him of being Madeleine McCann's murderer. He did this with a TV team in tow and sought to demand that the prosecutor take responsibility for his travails. Needless to say, he was given short shrift and told it was none of their concern.

It wasn't that hard to predict. He won't have much of a life outside of jail within Germany or Europe as he can't be integrated into society. Either he'd go back into jail on some minor infraction or leave the country entirely and never come back. Some 3rd world country where nobody knows him or asks any questions and officials can be bribed would be the choice.

Realistically there isn't much to connect him to McCann either. Just a cell phone login on to the clostest transmitter site at night. When Brueckner wasn't raping anybody he was dealing drugs and breaking into places, both activities are easily happening at night time rather than daylight.

you’ve obviously had time over nearly 20 years to work out a believable timeline or a scenario in which Madeleine was collected from the crèche, suffered an accident, her parents decided to hide the accident (why?) hide her body somewhere (how?) despite only being tourists, return to the apartments, calmly get ready for dinner, put the twins to bed, go to dinner, appear completely normal and then pretend to find her missing.
    Id love to hear it.

I don't. But I am of the opinion that they at least provided the basis for this crime to happen. Them leaving the infants alone is also not accidental, it was deliberate and this beyond doubt. Both parents having a university degree in medicine they both should have known better in the first place with no room for stupid excuses. However I am aware opions are very much split on that.

I am also of the opinion that there is no evidence I know of connecting Brueckner to the crime. If there was he would have been indicted and never left jail in Germany. It's easily possible the reason why his cell phone logged into that particular transmitter is that he was in the process of breaking in somewhere else in the area or pushing drugs close by.

If Brueckner did it, it's a surprise he didn't leave any DNA traces climbing through that window as well as risk being seen while doing so. (competence of the local police collecting DNA is another matter…) It's also a speculation that night he might have had robbery in mind in the first place, and was having an accomplice.

Brueckner could have pulled it of on his own, or with an accomplice, but also with sheer luck of not being seen.

Imposter who said she was Madeleine McCann found not guilty of stalking the parents. However she was found guilty of harassment.. Some days she sent them 60 messages a day. Went on for years.

She gained 1 million followers on social media.

Absolutely they left her alone, and they should not have done so.

It's just that this sentiment has long had a tendency to bubble over into accusations of criminal negligence, that they were possibly involved or this sense that the tabloids and wider public thought it fair to pillory them for leaving Madeleine alone.

    1. Their conduct didn't meet the standard of criminal negligence, where you would need to prove their conduct would lead to a statistical likelihood of harm. Any half decent legal representation arguing before either a British or Portuguese court could convincingly argue that leaving a child sleeping in an unlocked apartment in a quiet and safe (as far as they knew) holiday resort a short distance away doesn't meet that standard.
    2. No direct evidence of their involvement. Potential leads in this regard never went anywhere.
    3. They've more than paid for their carelessness. Didn't need the tabloids piling on, and the tabloids only did so to sell papers when a definite culprit didn't emerge. No moral motivation for the red tops - they who rifle through celebrity bins and bug their phone lines.

They left her alone. Almost certainly will never see her again in any physical capacity. That's pretty much the end of story.

I’ve listened to the Maddie podcast recently by some Aussie news channel. Why won’t Scotland Yard allow the DNA be tested by Cybergenics? They have groundbreaking new technology and could tell if there was any dna other than the families. They previously worked with SY after the 7/7 bombings and have worked with the FBI after 9/11. So they aren’t some fly by night company looking for publicity. Stinks to high heaven.

Here is another article on him.

Living rough in a tent, no fixed abode, and possibly considering leaving Germany for Surinam.

why is the DNA results they already have not acceptable to you?
I mean, I get that despite this girl not being Madeleine, you very badly want her to be Madeleine, despite her not being the right age as Madeleine, but why do you not accept the DNA?

No idea what these 2 paragraphs of waffle are about.

Cybergenics have offered to check the DNA from the apartment in Portugal to rule out familial dna and see if any other exists within the samples. Their techniques are well advanced from the original lab that did the testing not long after the disappearance. As I said they have a background of work with the FBI and NSY.

Suspect is now free to leave Germany

I haven't read or heard anything about that one. However I wouldn't mind if he left and never came back.

As far as I know he's living rough, in tents, drifting, no job, no income, etc….

Why couldnt they have hired a fulltime nanny to babysit? They were not poor.

Gerry McCann was a cardiologist, and Kate McCann had a professional background, so financial constraints were not the reason they didn’t hire a nanny.

I feel sorry for them, but this would have been less likely to happen if there was a nanny in the apartment.

Also it has been reported that all three children were sedated that night. While this is legal in Portugal, investigators questioned whether it increased the risk.

I don't know if they sedated the children. I doubt very much that that's what happened. It's most likely an invention by the tabloids.

Yes, the McCanns were making up all sorts of excuses and starting a big media campaign. Both were neither dumb (having a university degree) nor naive and both were not exactly short of money for not paying a nanny to look after the children.

By leaving their children deliberately alone and an unlocked door they at least were the cause for this to happen.

It could have been Brueckner or easily somebody else, even the McCanns themselves covering up an accident is not impossible to think of. There is no evidence either way, whether one likes it or not. Just a lot of speculation and some favouring the one or the other theory.
