getting my birch delivered tomorrow from Rathwood, a month late but for half the price of most places I’ll take it.

I’ve ordered from these lads once before and it was late aswell but again for the price I put up with it and allow for it.

I don’t get the concentrated hate these lads get here, it’s a real pile on and I ordered again this year despite it, not saying RW are angels either.

Conor Pope in the Irish Times today has a statement from RW:

“We are also aware that some customer had experienced delay with the delivery of fuel, especially some ‘wait and save’ customers. We have suffered some logistic issues, but the containers have docked this week and the firewood and fuel are being delivered to customers as we speak”

Rathwood deserve all the hate they are getting.
It’s not just firewood, customers have paid hundreds of euro for garden furniture that has never been delivered.
Rathwood just bury their head in the sand, ignore all emails and phone calls.

People on this forum have had to initiate charge backs from their bank to get the money back.

yeah lads I heard you say that multiple times already, bit of balance no harm either

kind of explains the delays if their supplier if 70% of their wood went bust but they should have explained this to customers that had paid and offered a refund

I ordered my 4 firewood orders last March but will delivery for mid September, they are being delivered today.

Would I order again ? Yes as the price was the pre-order was so good, I also got a €30 voucher from Rathwood last week and a voucher for the family halloween experiance which we also used and I think they was worth another €60 so over all I am happy.

If I had ordered in march for an immediate delivery and was only getting it now - Id be annoyed.

It's not just delayed deliver, it's the lack of communication from them. Our company have a ticketing system, if someone in our company updates a ticket or order the customer gets a notification. Rathwood's system doesn't send out a notification if the delivery date has been pushed out, it's almost like they don't want people to know.

Did you read the article? I'm delighted you are getting your birch tomorrow and another poster here said they'd been contacted by the courier too but look at the amount of people that have contacted the IT to say that they had asked for a refund or about their order and were getting strung along, that's just not acceptable. You've read it multiple times already because way more people are having bad experiences than are having good experiences. It's not the customers fault.

I see lots of people saying they ordered Garden furniture in the spring and 10 months later still no delivery- a bit useless for seasonal products

Have just installed a wood burning stove but live in a semi-d and tight on space. Only have a small garden shed, which is full of bikes, etc. If I buy a create I'm not sure how I'd store it. Can anyone recommend a unit or other way of storing firewood?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭geographica

Have you got access to the back garden? Ie down the side of the house and will the pallet crate fit down there?. You can use the crate it comes in as storage if you have a place to put the crate, but it MUST be well covered with a heavy duty plastic or the likes to prevent it getting wet. Ideal scenario it would be stored in a shed or garage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,211 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

what I did was unload the crate then place the crate on a pallet and fill with the firewood again and wrap in plastic from screwfix

    Great idea.

Plenty of options on Amazon also. Just search 'wood log storage'.

sounds like there’s something dodgy going on- taking peoples money and then scrambling for cheap stock wherever they can then get it. Are the two sons running it? They were really reputable company not long ago

For a long time I did the very same, but I would recommend getting the tarp from these guys as the quality is night and day difference.

Too add on above re RW - I have got a few pallets off them over the years and they've been generally "OK" so I ordered a Buy & Wait pallet of Oak last Nov for delivery in Sept this year (that worked OK as I had enough over to get me thru last winter) - paid at the time and thought not much more about it; then I got an SMS from them end of Aug that a balance was due before I could get delivery. This is where I was naive.. I got on and checked the link etc was valid, and paid the balance.. over 2 months later and still no wood. Started trying to call them recently and like many could not get a human.. so I put together an email and said I will be going small claims court this week; I dug out the PDF invoice/order confirm and now realise there was no balance due! I paid in full last Nov.. and they stung me for an extra €112 in August.

I've no desire to get any order from them and now are chasing 2 x payments back off them. I am going to order from Boyle's or TJ Mahoneys.

Have used CelticLogs again this year. 1.4 m3 of kiln dried hardwood for 295 delivered. Arrives in large bag on a pallet. It will do me for this winter. We've gotten it before and generally good quality, reliable delivery etc. appreciate that's not the cheapest out there but for all we need and the quality it does the job.

I used to know someone very closely related to the parents- very decent people i would have thought: Definitely sounds like there’s been a change in how things are done- sounds like a fast way to destroy a good business but we will see I suppose- it’s never a good sign when a company takes your money, doesn’t deliver for a very long time, ignores all communication and refuses a refund- that’s fly-by-night behaviour

Just an update on this useful post. Boyle's now have 1.2m3 Crate (3 Rows) – Kiln Dried Oak Logs in stock for €299.00.

Voucher code WESTWOOD takes €25 off your first order which brings it down to €274. Works out at about 9.2 kWh per euro according to my ChatGPT amigo.

apparently selling Aldi furniture as their own premium product? I’m assuming picking up out of season unsold stock for a fraction of the cost

Can we at least stick to the topic of firewood when discussing this company ad nauseam?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭shoegirl

Look up firewood racks on Amazon. I got two of them, both 150cm high, and I leave a gap between which I fill with logs. They are the expandable type so if logs are low and I need space for other things I can reduce the size. I also use other bulky items to line up piles of firewood, although its best to keep it off the ground to let the air keep them dry and avoid pest infestations. You can get outdoor versions also, but I have limited outdoor space and as our shed is a brick built shed I don't think these would withstand the Irish weather quite so well. The last alternative is the coal bunker type though I'm not sure how well these keep out water ingress.

As one of the people who was stung by Rathwood, but at least eventually got my money back - after THREE months of trying - they absolutely deserve the flak. Most customers had been buying regularly for a few years, and it only went downhill very suddenly from January. Obviously a lot of people were buying on "wait and save" deals, and unlike previous years from Jan 2025 they were looking for full payment in advance. This meant that a lot of people who had previously experienced fairly predictable deliveries on the expected date, suddenly didn't. And instead of being upfront that there was a problem, they initially emailed people about the first delay in February, but after that there was nothing - you had to click on your original order to find the link to the order tracking, to find they had changed the date yet again.

Basically what I found was that my delivery date would change to a month or so back every month until after 5 months of this I felt I couldn't trust them to deliver at all. I got a nice reply saying it would take up to 14 days to get a refund. It took another 3 months of sending messages via the online order - which ALWAYS got a prompt reply apologising and saying my message was passed on, before I just phoned up and asked to speak to a manager, which I didn't get, but the person who answered the phone did sort me out and I got my money back the next day.

As for chargebacks - I did try with Revolut, but my problem was when it came to "delivery date" I wasn't sure what to put in - the current delivery date or original? So I put in the original date of March and then revolut refused my claim because it was too far back. So if you did pay using Revolut, put in the CURRENT delivery date, not the original one.

A lot of people have been badly stung by these guys and I wouldn't be confident they will still be trading come next year, given what they put customers through. Its one thing for garden furniture which is a one off purchase, but people who buy bulk fuel will be repeat customers and can't deal with unreliability.

placed an order in sept with rw for delayed delivery in Oct, 1.2m pallet of birch arrived today and burning away here.

€170 for 460kg, 11.6 kwh per €1 so I thought it was worth the risk as I thought the flak here was a bit strange. yes they’ve had supply issues but it’s not the tracker scandal (which I went through)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,575 ✭✭✭SteM

So people shouldn't complain about being shafted because it's not the tracker scandal? Okay, sorry Mr.Keogh.

you sound like you’re one of the lucky ones and not had a huge delay. There’s endless reviews elsewhere about months and months of delays, no communication, no refunds and no deliveries

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166 ✭✭reggie3434

lads so yis said over and over again, the mod is even saying give it a rest.

to me it seemed yis were over the top and I wanted to see myself was it as bad and it’s not, it does fine no frills, the Ryanair of wood

Is a ton bag of hardwood for 100euro decent value?
