Agreed, and Rathwood and the Keoghs know that. But I would still encourage people to make an official complaint with the CCPC, all complaints are taken seriously.

Why are people still buying from Rathwood? They are not reliable.

Just cancel orders and move on.

Cancel orders, request a refund, get ignored, raise a chargeback with your bank and then move on.

I do hope people are not still buying from them, a lot of people pi**ed with them because they feel they've handed over their cash in good faith and all it seems to have done is given them an interest free loan.

Anyway, best price for 2cbm OAK anyone?

Yeah I was to get my order in March, but it was kicked back once a month to July before I asked for a refund, which I'm literally on the phone now having already contacted them 6 times asking where my money is. And I'm already 17 minutes on a phone queue. My guess is if I had not asked for a cancellation and refund they'd be still kicking back the orders every month. From what I can see everyone who ordered from the end of January on has been left out of pocket. My last successful order from them was a non wait-and-save back in January.

The frustrating thing for me was that I ordered a small order from them in January for in stock items, and I had some difficulties with it as they only delivered half it - the rest arrived a couple of weeks later having had to raise a request on the order asking where the rest of it was.

I was reasonably stocked at that point, but I anticipated I'd run out in early April again so I put in a wait and save order for delivery just after St Patricks day. That was the 133 euro order I'm waiting for a refund on. I got kicked back on a monthly basis 5 times so by July the date was August delivery which I guessed would just keep getting moved, so I decided to cancel. Still didn't get my money back though. I'm in dialogue with CCPC and Revolut refused my chargeback because they said the original delivery date was too long ago.

FWIW my local Lidl currently has Surefire kiln dried bags for 5.99. Might be a taking a chance on how dry they are (I stopped buying from stores generally as so many of them routinely leave fuel out in the rain to be ruined) but its well worth it at that price as I have enough left from Boyles to give them a few weeks of additional drying out. Bags are fairly small but they are 20cm and my stove is small too.

make a complaint to the CCPC as them not refunding is illegal

Kerry Agri stores selling beech, 450kg, 1.1m3 for €260 if you're in the midwest.

I reckon beech is the nicest hardwood I burn for stoves. It lasts longer than ash and burns better than oak.

    Hi,

I see Boyles are advertising a 'Jumbo' bag of kiln dried Oak for €220 each (or 3 for €599). They give the dimensions of the bags as 80x80x80cms. Kenny Fuels, who I think have been recommended here ?, have a 'Tonne' bag of kiln dried Oak for €144. No dimensions given but would you think they are the same bag sizes as the Boyles 'Jumbo' ??…. I know there's a delivery fee with Kennys but It still seems like a pretty good deal. Any thoughts or anyone ordered them before ? Thanks.

buying bags of firewood is a risky game, the bag could be machine/bucket loaded and be half full of air, be better to go the extra yard and get a stacked crate or share one with a neighbour

Boyles don’t have 2cbm oak until November

Does anyone that delivers to the Dublin area have cubic pallets of oak or ash at the moment?, everyone seems to be out of stock. I've given up on RW at this point.

I've used finglas fuels before and they were fine. Like kenny and Boyle have probably more consistent cut wood in the plastic bags, but finglas can be a bit more random. They've good ecoglow coal too.

    Scroll down https://finglasfuels.ie/

But yes, you would be correct in forgetting about RW and may all your bad luck go with them.

the bullshitters have pushed back orders from January to November 5th now

They charge €40 for delivery so bumps it up a bit if you can't collect from the stores.

I ordered in April for a delivery in September, its now listed as December….Finglas fuels ( hat tip to @Treppen ) look to have decent pricing so am going to go with them instead.

Let's say you ordered firewood from Rathwood for delivery in September (busiest time of the year). Are they simply giving your firewood to other customers when they get it, ensuring extra sales? And then dealing with you (they already have your money) months down the line when things are quieter?

Can we please do a separate Rathwood thread mods?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,108 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

moderators don’t tend to posts, might be worth starting your own and linking it here

If they plan on dealing with me at all :( Just hoping a miracle happens and it is delivered eventually. Not going to be without though for Halloween and Xmas breaks so if Finglas Fuels deliver they will get a new repeat customer from here on. I've had many firewood deliveries with RW in the past, I was a happy customer, thats the only reason I'm being patient - plus i have enough left for about another month to two (if i only use the wood stove at weekends), time will tell.

A LOT of people have been saved the hassle of dealing with Rathwood from this thread, including myself. Why try to hide it all from new visitors? So more people get conned?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,807 ✭✭✭Treppen

who's hiding it? Post wherever you like.... Or maybe start a standalone Rathwood thread ... A dedicated thread will save a lot more people, if anything Rathwood is being hidden in this thread!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,450 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

To be honest DO NOT BUY FROM RATHWOOD should be in the title. I'd seen this thread for years and never opened it as I don't need firewood. I then ordered a garden furniture set off them and got fleeced like everyone else, did a successful charge back in the end but it might have saved me the hassle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,299 ✭✭✭ablelocks

as the OP, i think this thread should stay open, with a DO NOT BUY FROM RATHWOOD in the title - it's been open nearly 10 years (subject to boards staying going !)

I think there is already a Rathwood thread in consumer issues (can't find it now though) - use that for complaints or issues.

It's been well flagged about them at this stage, so if we can stop talking about them from now on that will get the thread back on track.

I have three crate orders with Rathwood currently (made at the start of May) and a small update from me -

Two of them were showing a delivery date of Jan 1 2026 just a couple of weeks ago, but are now showing a delivery date of Dec 1 2025. So things are moving in right direction at least - and I'm confident they'll come through.

I have plenty of wood to get me to xmas but I appreciate not everyone is in that position.
