I think it's an indication that the more extreme your watch design is, the more it may get moored in time. "Extreme" can come in a multitude of forms: case very big (beyond 43mm) or very small (below 36mm); loud coloured dial; stone / adventurine dial; odd lugs; odd band attachment mechanism; weird port hole yokes like that Graham watch (yikes!)…whatever it is exactly about your watch that makes it "different" is also probably the thing that doesn't make it timeless.

The above yoke is so obviously about the very time it was made, where the question being asked was how to make a bigger / wider / louder / more expensive watch.

And like buy what you want and wear it loud and proud. Just have reasonable expectations if you want to sell it ~15 years later.

I wont dignify this post with any response other than to say comparing a ploprof to this is heresy!

I wasn’t comparing the watches, I was saying it takes all sorts of people to like all sorts of watches 👍

i know, but while say a ploprof might not be for me personally i am jealous of someone who can pull one off, this thing has less redeeming features!

I'm with Fitz on the Ploprof, a great watch IMO.
But on the Breitling Emergency, I haveta say as someone who hit Adulthood just as they were advertised everywhere and has the added misfortune of being an AV geek!

A grail, one of those watches I am going to NEED to own at some point.

On the Graham monstrosity, I have an uncle Graham, who is short, fat, bald and has the misfortune to look like Johnny Adair whilst being Catholic and living in a very Orange wee town…

His loyal order loving neighbours love his taig arse with more Grá than I could ever scrape together for that amalgam of ugliness...

A little fiddle with the SM for those inarested..

    20251105_111423.jpg 20251105_123409.jpg 20251105_134157.jpg 20251105_134123.jpg 20251105_134002.jpg

Regulated it and wanted a looksee at the works as was curious. No plastic movt spacer, which is nice, and no dust/prints either. Tallies with pics sm posted of their assembly clean room.

Bracelet is from their fancier sister company Juianghun (BO-1 jubilee from model JH0301).

How they sell it for a hundred quid with that fit and finish is amazballs. Glide lock too.

Now I've made it the way I'd want I'll prob sell it lol.

That's a really high quality looking jubilee.

    That's a classy looking piece.

“A little fiddle” for H_Lime = Us doing brain surgery while blasting off on Falcon 1

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

In truth "A little fiddle" was tongue in cheek lol.

The bracelet was an absolute mare to fit. SM said not a recommend fit as "difficult". Eventually got all four pins in the lug holes with some tricks.

Regulating was tricky. The 9015 seems to want both studs closer than other movements when adjusting beat error. Reading up on it I think perhaps the hairsprings "terminal curve" may be shorter?

    20251105_183401.jpg

Anyway, I got it where I wanted solely so my ocd regarding 0.2 beat error (which makes no diff really) is corrected.

Wondering if any of the rolex experts could give a view on whether this watch looks over polished. It looks a bit too shiny to my untrained eye just based on age, but can't really tell re lugs etc. There are others with full box and papers available on chrono at this price, but it's cheaper than other watches on watchfinder

That’s the rear! The front is standard (2 hands not look “no hand” style).

This is a little bit of “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”.

A bit hard to tell from the bright pictures but looks very polished. Yachtmaster is a surprisingly shiny watch anyway but crown guards and case through to the lugs look too rounded. Price looks fine for 2002 with b&p but I'd be looking for additional photos from Watchfinder before pulling the trigger.

aha! My mother did always tell me I’d go blind 😀

    Thanks.

I asked for pictures but I find they are very slow to deal with. They told me it has just been serviced by rolex at €700 and comes with almost 2 years warranty, which is attractive. But I feel like the numerals on the bezel, and even some of the bezel edges down by "30" or 6 of clock look very work away. Their description says they havant polished it (whereas all the other yacht masters they describe as they have polished it) but obviously they've just sourced tbst from somewhere and maybe it was aggressively polished before sale.

Also looking at this one but having contacted them it has no service history (they say their watch maker has examined it and given all the specs of how it is within tolerance etc and they say doesn't need a service).... It looks a bit less polished but I am not sure.

Not sure if my questions belong in here or should open a specific thread, but on buying a second hand rolex, does anyone have any thoughts on serial numbers not matching up with year? Eg various online sites say a certain letter of the alphabet = a year or manufacturing..... If that's out by 2 or 3 years is that a concern?

I wouldn't mind production not equaling sale as it could be in stock for years, so only talking about a production date.

Ps I ask as ebay seems full of Rolex papers for sale (with no watch.... So there's a marker in papers)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 Charlie9999

Rolex brought in random serial numbers around 2010. Before that the letter codes denoted year of production. I've been collecting son's birth year Rolex, religiously go on Z-serial as being 2nd half 2006 into 1st half 2007 and would expect sale date on papers to match this time-frame. I think this is perfectly valid for any post-2000 Rolex.

When you get into vintage or less popular models the correlation of serial number to sale-date on papers starts to drift.

While waiting lists & "preferred clients" are the norm now (particularly for sport models} it wasn't always the case. It would not have been unusual for a Rolex piece to sit on an ad's shelf for months if not years so a mis-match on production date serial and sale-date on papers would not have been unusual.

    Thanks for your comment.

Would you be willing to take a quick peek at these photos and offer any view on watch?

Seller has told me the watch has been very lightly polished and in their view retains it's original shape etc.

I'm not paranoid looking at shiny lugs and can't figure out what I'm looking at anymore.

    Thanks.

That makes sense and I gather the Yacht-Master is a particularly less sought after model. I know a sub is the sensible choice but I like the idea of buying something slightly different.

I thought the year of production was on the paperwork as opposed to year of sale, the sale and production not matching up wouldn't cost me a thought.

Anyone here eying anything up from the AliExpress sale next week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,145 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

In fairness that looks a lot better and the bezel is in great shape too often that's iffy on them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭wersal gummage

Not sure why I have so many typos in here. I meant "I'm noW paranoid" and all I can see is shiny lugs ! It appeared as NOT paranoid which is the opposite of what I meant. Thanks again.

Those two watches are basically same price. Watchfinder has the rolex service recently and other watch has now evidence of any service (but has provided performance data showing it's within tolerance and indicative of having been serviced.…).

Id try push towards 8k delivered and buy the c24 one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭wersal gummage

€8.5 is about the cheapest I can find one in Europe with box and papers. Most are upwards of 9. If I go with that one I'll make an offer but wouldn't expect to get it close to 8.

Also interested in another one around same price and was asking a Q of a dealer re any slack on the bracelet and he said its not an original bracelet.... So it's some other cheap yoke with the rolex clasp but on etc... So it seems dodgy enough buying an older second hand watch! That is not anywhere in the description

How about this one ? A less common Rolex , nicer than an old model yachtmaster in my opinion, from a regular forum user so can be comfortable in the purchase plus try on before you buy .A polish if needed could be done locally for a few hundred euro .Might be worth a look if nothing else.

Edit to say don’t mind the photos in the ad , @unkel ‘s photography is notoriously bad
