I pay a sub to several sites including Flickr . Not for one minute do I think I have the right to see the books. You're not very logical it seems 🤣

Just because you're terrible with your fiances and don't care about your money, doesn't make it the case for everyone else.

But you're entitled to your opinion and i respect that, lets hope they don't jump you for yours. 😎

So you dislike me and my opinion so you either attack my post count or my username?

It's mad how many of you jump to attack someone on an alias account for voicing an opinion or question politely.

Do I think what he or she is asking for is ott? Absolutely, but why are some of ye insulting the username, the account status, the poster, rather than simply ignoring the questions that he or she aren't even posing to you? The nasty, cliquey atmosphere doesn't help encourage people to sub.

I'm sure I'll get a warning or ban for that and so be it tbh, it's nasty to sit back and watch it go unchecked bar a mod warning that clearly hasn't been adhered to

I paid the sub to boards as, on balance, I've got a lot from the site over the years and still continue to and I think it would be difficult to replace if it went.

But, we have to be honest here: the situation was presented in the gravest possible terms: the language was definitive, a countdown was counting down, figures were mentioned that HAD to be reached... But now those figures haven't been reached.... But everything is okay again? What was that all about...

And also throughout the process the level of engagement was pretty poor, okay, not a crime... But it does seem to not be the greatest idea if you're looking for community buy in to keep the lights on... Supposedly.

I fully accept I know absolutely nothing about what goes on behind the scenes so I could be talking pure rubbish here.

I do think these occasional demands from people for granular information about finances are a bit ludicrous. We all pay subscriptions to things - do you expect that level of detail from all of them as well? Come on, get real.

But, I can understand, where these demands come from to an extent. Boards has been kind of forthcoming and kind of transparent on some things, but hazy and uncommunicative with others - it's going to bring questions from people.

I asked the same question regarding numbers:

"How was €100k identified as the number that would help to keep the lights on back in July?

And now in November, €32k which was raised is deemed enough to do the above?"

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058419316/the-boards-ie-subscription/p37

Had the usual cheerleaders and hiena's jump in and berate me for questioning this.

@Esse85 Your question on costs was answered in the OP of thread? Looks like they where paying way above a needed amount for the vanilla subscription?

You provided a link to the above thread instead of a specific post? Which an answer was provided as well.

Anyone is entitled to ask question here, but due to the history of bad actors (trolls, WUM, etc) creating new accounts, that sort of account demanding answers from the owner. As the very first post raised red flags and concerned me, and I feared the account would be shutdown quickly, it didn't warrant a reply until they established some sort of profile and posting style. Brand new and not previous account holders in my opinion would not be so bold as to create that kind of post.

Also think that person got off easy with the reaction on here to his post.

It surprises me to read that many people think boards could be run by the community considering what we continue to read even in threads like this.

You're telling me my question was answered.

One of two questions I asked was "How was €100k identified as the number that would help to keep the lights on back in July?"

Can you please help me understand where this was answered in that post?

Also you mention "Looks like they where paying way above a needed amount for the vanilla subscription?"

Is that factual or assumption? If you don't know it would be better to say you don't know. And if it's true, can you see why people are asking for accountability and clarification when they are being asked to put their hand in their own pocket?

"Paying way above a needed amount for the vanilla subscription" your words not mine, sounds wreckless, and doesn't inspire confidence that the money being asked for by users, will be put to good use by those in possession of it.

"I am pleased to say we've secured our financial footing. The combination of our Ad Free subscription revenue, ongoing advertising income (albeit declining!), and a new partnership deal we've finalised with Vanilla …. means we now have at least 14 months of runway ahead of us." ~ Odhran's comment in the op?

The nature of that statement is the new deal is a reduced of costs for vanilla, which implies that they where expecting to pay a lot more for it originally. Hence my assumption they where paying over what was required for it.

Also what I am unclear on is vanilla also providing the hosting? If so the statement that

"100% of proceeds will go towards paying for a year in advance of platform hosting fees."

Is the costs for vanilla outside the hosting fees?

Sorry didn't know I had to state that I was only sharing my opinions and thoughts on it? @Esse85

It's hardly that surprising that people treat newly registered accounts that sign up to "just ask questions" with a degree of scepticism... Most are clearly trolls or WUMs.

It isn't true to say that you can't just ask questions. Sure, I'm asking questions up above in the thread, as are others... Just asking questions by itself isn't going to get you automatically shut down or pounced upon.

And also, as has been remarked, there is an irony in someone who - allegedly - is posting under an alias asking for more transparency!

Your speculation and assumptions only add to the Chinese whispers on here, you'd be better off saying nothing when you know nothing than acting and pretending like you know what's going on.

@Esse85 We have gone from whether we are allowed to ask question to not been allowed to voice opinions on things. I never declared I was in the know. Unless a mod says otherwise I will continue to voice my opinion on things as I see fit.

In Irony the opposite is also true? Of have been chastised on some forums for not providing enough of my opinions on things.

Based on the OP the 32k on the bank in tandem with the other income and a reduced rate (or partnership with vanilla whatever the hell that means) then the sote is secure for the next 14 months. Just a little breathing space.

    Can't seem to quote posts,

    @DayInTheBog and whoever else

In the context of Odhran saying the below in the OP, I think Logical Guy's questions were valid

I am going to share a bit about how we build Boards.ie'sfuture together - not just as something I'm driving, but as something the community has real involvement in. I’m hoping some of you will be interested in helping shape this, but I want to be realistic about what that looks like in practice and how we get there. This isn't something that happens overnight and I'm setting a timeline of roughly a year to see whether we can make community stewardship - or genuine community involvement in Boards' future - a reality… and the conversation starts now.

In fairness we have to give him a chance. It's been a week since we've been saved.

Does the government announce and implement the budget the day after they've been elected?
