Why? Paying a small sub doesn't give you shareholders rights, or a seat on the board. Are we all supposed to be communists now? Bad enough having a red in the Aras.

    Yes @corkie , very logical indeed 😉

Well the 32k in subscription money in the account that was mentioned as paying for another year was paid by the community?

Do you understand my original question?

You as a "Paying" subscriber should want the same things.

Am i been unreasonable? why the hostility.

And since the subscriber funds were used for the year renewal of vanilla, where does the advertisement monetary gains go? into a "pot" for next year?

Just a transparency request, regardless of the disdain for my post count like it's requirement to be welcome here on the discussion board.

You were asking for the stats saying The Community paid .

The community didn't all pay that money , only subscribers .

Most subscribers were happy to pay a sub without seeing those stats on the basis that they enjoy the site and have gone for a long time for free. I don't know if I feel even now after subbing that I have the right to demand that sort of detail .

Not to mention as a brand new poster .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,186 ✭✭✭corkie

@Logical Guy On a brand new account or possible an alias for an account, you could not ask the question on?

It is a Friday (weekend) night and your looking for answers? Mike and Odhran probably won't be replying until Monday at the earliest?

Mike was only tasked with compiling the issues (or bugs) list on Wednesday and I hope they will reach out for support or confirmation on what users would like to see prioritized from it in due course.

Edit: On your first post, without knowing where you where going to take the discussion, I have seen new accounts posts just been removed and accounts terminated so lack of weight on the post wordy of time and replies.

    Woah.

I don't care about people's post counts and yes, there is a possibility the post is from a WUM but then same could be said of higher post count people on here who are tolerated.

That does not negate the fact the post is asking a reasonable question or two in a reasonable manner.

I can see why some people are seeing a divide amongst posters - that "paid member" label is beginning to appear to be a mistake.

I can see why some people are seeing a divide amongst posters - that "paid member" label is beginning to appear to be a mistake.

I wholeheartedly agree with this, I don't think there should be a visible distinction between those who choose to subscribe and those who don't.

There's a lot of petty comments across the site based on this -'paying customer' really takes the biscuit though, it's a voluntary subscription. If you post on a public forum you're the product, not the customer.

Well i'd hope a subscriber is part of the community or you mean to say subscribers are above the community now?

As for detail, even for non subscribers, a redacted, yes i said redacted, invoice would let both subscribers and members know what level of transparency and dedication they're ready to participate, specially when there is mention of things like "community stewardship". Knowing what is indeed required to keep "boards alive" should be common knowledge shared with the community, regardless of subscription level because non subscribers are driving ad revenue as well.

As a precautionary measure because on here, it is not fashionable to not be a "subscriber" or "boardsie" or whatever moniker is used these days. The right to express yourself is frowned upon on this discussion board. it's so bad the subscribers are becoming a clique already attacking everybody who has a difference of opinion or concern.

Mike has had 4 years to know what is wrong with vanilla, please realize how long boards has used the discussion software and re-think your statement.

As for jumping to ridicule me for having one post straight away is exactly whats wrong on here.

I'm new here but I expect to see naked photos of the owner. If you don't oblige my whims it proves that boards is a closed shop destined to fail!

I am not about to engage with a poster who tried to insinuate I said something I didn't .

Maybe continue the discussion on Monday with somebody who has the details you are looking for .

The people who have those details are off for the weekend .

Unless a mod here has more info I am sure they will oblige ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9 Logical Guy

    Are you five?

You clearly said the community didn't pay for the 32k, that subscribers did, which is you making a distinguished difference between the two and denoting that subscribers are not the community. And why i mentioned how non subscribers see ads thus are contributing to the "in-take" of revenue for boards future.

I'm not sure if I'm confusing or some people have blinkers on and don't want to converse normally.

@Logical Guy As for jumping to ridicule me for having one post straight away is exactly what is wrong on here.

I didn't ridicule you, I just highlighted your account status and gave the reasons why.

As for the list, we have bugs threads in feedback that highlight all the issues and they are known.

I also asked earlier in the week about the possible issues and gave solutions to some quick fixes.

I have my own created extension that patches the above bugs, along with a few other tweaks including a method to hide the effect of the forum bouncing.

Mike is only a part time employee, so I know he hasn't had the time to compile a list yet. If they where shutting down the site or rolling back to basic vanilla, some of the fixes would be redundant, so no point creating the list before this week.

And your tone to a mod 'Are you five?' :poop:

Is exactly the reason I highlighted your account to know if it would be wordy of a reply. :pac:

You completely ignored my post, screen shot it and challenged my post to another user in reference to ignoring me because of my post count, please don't sugar coat your ignorance.

So in fact he has all the lists he wants with years of "bug reporting" on these threads you speak of so he'll have no issue letting us all see it. It could take him a month to curate a list, i never said i want it tomorrow, again with the assumptions. But if he has a "heap" of bug reports over 4 years it shouldn't take too long, that's not demanding, that's just common sense.

Tone to a mod comparing a 32 thousand pound payment to vanilla invoice to asking for naked photos, and you think that's poop? It's childish and my reply reflects as such.

We have seen your extension you spam all over the place and your code? suggestions but they don't change anything including putting a wall in front of your eyes as the site bugs out, that's like an ostrich sticking its head in sand, no help at all.

I wouldn't worry. I've a feeling that poster will be toast before long.…again.

@Logical Guy We have seen your extension you spam all over the place and your code?

^^ Raise more questions on legitimacy of this account not been an alias. I don't publicly share that extension or mention it all over the place?

    @thesandeman Possibly true! :pac:

As is standard for boards.ie non subscribers who ask questions.

I've already stated why the alias up above, did you even read my posts?

TBH @Logical Guy is not coming across as WUM and some of the questions are valid regardless of his "new" user status

And there does seem to be an ethos of carrying on with moderation, soft touch out the window, as @squonk post in a feedback thread highlighted (a moderator by all accounts) - a mild comment deleted for no reason

You can post on twitter and facebook all you like and unless you are breaking the law your comment will never be deleted or have repercussions. I've run forums in the past and unless you really stepped beyond the line there was no repercussions beyond a gentle "watch your tone". Warnings and bans seem to be the first port of call here and is a main reason for such disdain against the site it seems. Having seen long time members, who in my communications with be non offensive and entertaining people, be completely banned in the past few months makes me think the end is just slightly delayed.

Sorry i missed your post, no boards software limited has one shareholder, that we know of anyways, @Boards.ie: Odhran , hence why i asked him and not you. But i guess that depends on whether subscribers should be made shareholders if the site now depends on them.

I'm not asking for his house and spare pair of wellingtons, I'm asking for transparency of a new "deal" posted on here by himself with vanilla where he states he will withdraw 32 thousand euro out of an account and pay vanilla with it for 12-14 months seemly curated by his part-time employee @Boards.ie: Mike again, stated by himself publicly.

Should or could he refuse? Definitely, but as stated, that sorta takes away from previous mentions of transparency and aspirations of the site ever been community controlled.

Lads, as with every other thread on here, if you see a problem post bring it to the attention of moderators or admins. Commenting on a poster is off topic.

Can we stick to discussing the topic rather than each other. Some are subscribers, some are not. 20 years ago some were subscribers, some were not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,186 ✭✭✭corkie

@Logical Guy As a precautionary measure because on here

Sorry I overlooked the above opening of your post.

Since your account and posts are still here. Maybe your account will last longer than I expected?

So your admitting your using an alias. (even with it against site rules). So hiding behind that, what was so bad with your query, that it required that. What have you got to hide. And your looking for transparency of a redacted invoice? When yourself are not been transparent. Want can be gained from users seeing that. And why do you think that users are entitled to see it. Do you go into a steakhouse restaurant and ask to see an invoice to confirm that the meat was sourced from an Irish source (if the restaurant claimed as such).

As for the Issues list, I assumed that it will or not be shared in due course if the need arises. I assume as they have publicly mentioned it, that would be the intention of the list anyway.

I didn't attack your post, which you have done of mine, using knowledge gained from your other account.

Your questions maybe valid, but you invalidated them by hiding behind an anonymous alias persona.

If the site is going to be community influenced, details of how/who will also need to be announced. So there is many a valid question to be asked or resolved to see how that happens.
