Kieran Cuddihy is a very interesting choice - he is only getting going as a more serious interviewer in politics, he seems waisted on Liveline

Whilst Joe was very cranky in his last few years - I can see Cuddihy losing the head with the cranks ringing in about their doorbell or bike or broken fridge or a backward seat on a bus or gone off sausage or dead cat or frog or small slice pan or dead priest - he will end up going , will you ever cop on and get off the phone and get a life.

I actually hope he loses the head with the people on that show.

What will change though if the left get in? We’ll still be 15 years at least away from starting to solve the housing crisis alone no less anything else- they’ll need to sharpen their pencils and write a damn good election manifesto that’s provable to work- I don’t want the country even worse off under them

Positioning her party as part of a left government was just plain dumb- she has the opportunity to market the party as a centre left alternative to FF or FG-grab a whole load of voters from either or both parties and hop into political bed with whichever party remains the bigger of the two - probably won’t be able to grow as quickly as they want to before the next election but could embarrassingly take seats from SF which won’t go down well with the “left alliance” 😀

And look, it's a fair question. I don't think anybody can really suggest otherwise.

I know Labour and the Soc Dems have both said in the past that these incremental changes to income tax and spending are no use to anybody. It basically just keeps everything ticking on by while being sold by the government of the day that they're helping everyone.

I've been of the opinion that Ivana Bacik's idea of the centre left (Labour, SocDems, Greens) should come together and practically come up with a draft programme for government. Put it to the electorate. Tell them this is the alternative to the current mess that we have. Let's see what is in the teeth of lefty parties that seriously want to govern (which Labour in the past have shown they want to do, and I believe the Soc Dems also want to govern some day).

Honestly, and I won't bang on about this too much because I'm conscious of the thread we're in, I'd hope they can come up with something of a decent alternative, because the current government have been in power for the guts of 12 months and they have nothing to show for it only a Budget which gave nothing to anyone bar McDonalds and builders.

Surely there has to be something different out there that's worth a go? Although I can completely understand the unease at which to change something as drastically as this would be can cause.

You'll be amazed to hear that it's nowhere near the highest population we've had.

If there was a United Ireland then there would have to be compromises, such as having a Northern Ireland and Stormont part of that United Ireland, just as Northern Ireland is currently part of the U.K. N.I. would have the euro, pay euro prices for everything, get public service wages paid in euro and we would be giving N.I. ten or 20 billon a year.

It would also protect our economy from being tarnished- if and when there is violence up there, we could just say that is N.I. We could just seal the border and let them at it.

Would'nt normally watch the Late Late but was visiting an old person last night and it was on. Kielty said there was a lot of sinn feiners in the audience and was hyping up lots of loaded questions to Holly like assuming there was a border poll in 5 to 10 years would'nt you like a u.i. etc. Just as well I had the old person to chat with about something else at the same time.

Wonder would posh Cuddihy be any good as Presenter on the Late Late? Needs someone new.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,607 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

But there be no N.I in a united Ireland so why a Stormont

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 18,249 ✭✭✭✭elperello

    Seal what border ?

    A UI wouldn't have one.

Also back on topic, I think KC could manage the LLS but why is he posh ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 972 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

KC is posh because he is well off, has a posh house, his father is a doctor, etc. Just the type of person the average caller phoning in to Joe Duffy can empathise about with about the rise in the price of bread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 972 ✭✭✭itsacoolday

Well the politician on the Late Late last night thought there may be, if there was a U.I. Compromises would have to be made she said. A United Ireland federal solution would aim to grant a degree of self-government to Northern Ireland. Stormont would be kept in a U.I. just as it is currently kept in a U.K.

When you said posh I thought he must be the Earl of Kilkenny or something.

So he's been in gainful employment for years and bought himself a house.

HIs dad has one of the hardest jobs going looking after sick people.

If that's posh nowadays I must be out of touch.

Well I disagree with her on that but agree compromise would have to be done. But if "NI" a self government then why not Munster, Connaught, Leinster or the rest of Ulster
