There's two in Kiltoom near Ballybay school (but they are often full). The recycling centre at Golden island will also take them for free I believe. Not sure if Dunnes stores montree has some or if it's just a bottle bank near the back.

Would the Simon shop opposite Golden Island take them in?

    This too shall pass.

Absolutely frightening how bad the traffic was in monksland this week. Irish water contractor at fault this time.

Where they cut the road for the lights has hollowed out now as well. Road surface is dangerous for tyres. Seems a very narrow junction also, no room for turning right lanes. It's hard to see how it's going to be successful as traffic volumes grow in coming years.

That entire road could be widened with bus lanes added to support growth.

I have to go to Athlone next month. Will have a hour or so to spare in the morning before my meeting. Where is best place there to get a full Irish breakfast? Cooked to order. Not buffet. Price not an issue, quality of food is.

The Good Cafe across from the college. Sensational breakfast

My go-to spot at the moment is Gertie's pub for the breakfast. Right in the centre of town. Proper feed from the full Irish and cooked to order.

Hi all, does anyone know what the story is with the Barna waste site? Closed a good while now I've a trailer loaded and could do with getting rid of the crap. Any other sites open around if Barna isn't opening shortly?

My local grapevine mentioned a workplace accident which prompted an audit.

    Ericsson move. Couple of questions...

    1. Is it because the cornamaddy lease is due a renewal soon and that the owner has quoted a sheet rate to the known cheapskates?

    2. Is the new spot larger capacity? With the popularity of remote working, youd think the opposite would be prudent. That said, they visbily have alot of on site staff that wouldn't be famous for having alot of space to work from home.

    Second hand info.

On 1. Lease is up in current place in 2027 and they want a shiny new building that's on offer in IDA business park. Old building isn't that suitable to be an office apparently.

On 2. New spot is smaller and much smaller parking. They want bums on seats in the current place, remote is gone now. Gonna be a squeeze. It's going to add a load of traffic going to/from TUS direction in mornings and evenings. That road going towards TUS is very bad in the mornings.

We had lads there working Hybrid since the early 2000s, couple of Galway and Mayo examples I would have known. I dont think they really mind, just Athlone is relatively affordable to live in or near so it doesnt become an issue like Dublin jobs do for remote working.

Officially yes bums on seats but any line manager that aint a tool will always allow it so long as the person is able to perform.

The bike lanes added to the new traffic lights in Monksland are literally worse than useless as they make no sense for a cyclist to use, they take space away from pedestrians and they piss off motorists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,128 ✭✭✭rn

I see someone cleared the plastic bollards the demarked the bike lanes on both sides. It's not so much it's a bad idea, it's just too narrow and off line with main course of the road

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭jimmyendless

I suppose if cyclists are turning off its nice but for going straight on, it makes no sense to cycle up there and wait for lights.

Maybe it is just designed for turning off the road?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 705 ✭✭✭jimmyendless

All bollards now broken and replaced with cones. 🙃

That indian takeaway that had advertising up is closed already, where the imperial chinese used to be on North Gate st. What the hell is up with that place?

Also, the new lights going in at Aldi, theres temporary lights there now, and it absolutely doesnt work, why would permanent ones be better? I genuinely would love to know the town engineers' reasons behind it.
