    ah, the contractor band-aid..

In fairness, they should just accept it, and negotiate a contract with others to get a reduction on cost.

Will be interesting to see how many go for the new commissioned roles. While pay will be less than industry, Ireland can be quite competitive in the private sector, so anyone who doesn't want to leave Ireland, it could be a good option.

Will be tough work for someone who has done 10-15 years in civvy land to join and put up with Military guff on top of trying to deliver projects though.

Good news that this is finally happening.

Lets hope for the good of the forces, past present, that its more than just lip-service.

i am at a loss of words. How is this a suprise to a dail committe were have these people been. I hope the EU nations say Fu@k you ireland we will not be having any sunmits in your tight country.

That may well be what happens. That any summits during the presidency are held in Brussels, and Ireland chair them, and no more.

Has the Part Time minister and the SG explained that at some point in the future we might have some of the basic equipment and infrastructure needed? After which we might think about the need for the rest? I mean there was no way we could have known that we might need these things by 2026…

If we had any serious opposition people, this would be hammered day and night against the government, instead we are likely to have SF complain about how EVIL the EU is because MILITARISATION!, while the SocDems might demand we all paint our nails and things will be fine.

I read the article as based on informed leaks - clearly someone trying to call BS on a lot of the guff we hear. I would have thought it better we hold these EU events here if possible- better chance of additional resources to DF - but the gap is too big to bridge to get all that would be required.

I note reference to Munster as a venue for a summit (somewhere in Cork given MM is currently Tao ?). Maybe Drumoland given it has held these type events before if it is held here?

We will see an announcement regarding a new primary radar system in the next few weeks. It’s in yesterday’s cttee hearing, but it seems it will be a number of years before fully functioning .

I see the DoD has about €90m of Capex still to spend this month and next to hit the annual budgeted amount. I presume govt Jet, radar down payment , infrastructure and a few other bits and bobs will see to that?

I've said it here before many times; never EVER be a launch customer or an early adopter of defence tech. Ever...

ha ha, it had actually crossed my mind, but there is no way they would look at it for obvious reasons. Could you imagine, the owner would probably gate crash the party !! Some American guy I believe. From an actual security POV it probably has a lot of advantages, which I’m sure will be put to good use over the next three years or so I’d say…

But, But GDLS promised they'd sorted out all those habitability and engineering issues!
Those squadies must just be soft snowflakes /s

The Brits seriously need to consider cutting the programme, swallowing the cost and either buying or licensing effective & proven platform.
Over £4 billion spent to date and it's still both a lemon and years away from being fit for service.

    Multiple effective options out there.
Cut GDLS out of the equation and sue them for their failure or specific performance.

Absolute shít show of programme management that is at this stage akin to our own continued failure or even India's damned Tejas.

    Allons enfants de la Patrie
Le jour de gloire est arrivé!
    Contre nous de la tyrannie
    L’étendard sanglant est levé
    L’étendard sanglant est levé
    Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
    Mugir ces féroces soldats?
Ils viennent jusque dans vos bras
    Égorger nos fils, nos compagnes!

clearly the Journal article forced a rebuttal, not a surprise that we are going cap in hand, but interesting no mention of air coverage. Will it also be French or the RAF? Wonder how many promotions will be given out to the DOD staff for their abject failure?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,562 ✭✭✭roadmaster

PC9s will do light CAP like the past for small slow moving aircraft. Not a chance it will be RAF they can barely look after themselfs and it would look bad from a political view.

We will see maybe either French/EU squadron deployed to Shannon if there is going to be Air Cover.

I know i use to much Just for Men and mabe its leaking in to my brain but back in the early 2000s maybe late 90s when we held a summit wasnt there media speculation then that Dutch would deploy F16s to do CAP?

The Million dollar question is what happens if a passenger jet goes of course and is heading for Dublin Castle, who gives the French the order to shoot it down?
