It's very mild lately. Very misty outside tonight. I'd like to see a few frosts now. I know they don't kill off bugs but there is something very refreshing and cleansing about frosty nights/mornings. The days and night skies can be lovely too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

To be honest its so damp, dreary and miserable every day that it doesn't actually feel that mild!

My commute to work has been an absolutely nightmare this week, once it rains its mayhem on roads.

Absolutely lashing again here in Dublin it's relentless.

Saw some wasps yesterday. In November? Is this normal? Guess they think its a warmer month since its 15c by day and 12c by night.

November temperatures are currently running well above average and looks to stay mild for the next 2 to possibly 3 weeks, it's going to take a major cold spell to disrupt the temperature anomaly by the end of the month.

The sun finally came out in Cork over the last few minutes. Its gone again but it does still exist. About a week now of dreary misty foggy wet weather now, soul destroying.

In Mayo I have the washing on the line for a week. Waiting on any bit of sun.

They're usually big fat queen wasps having another browse around wondering where to hibernate. They'll come in open house and car windows and nest in curtain creases etc. If the sun comes out in this very mild weather it can confuse them and they can reawaken and frighten the bejaysus out of ye while driving !

Casement and Phoenix Park both 17 degrees at 1pm.

Lovely reprieve from last few days. Wonder whats in store for the weekend - curious re Saturday. One forecast has it the best of the weekend and another forecast each day mostly the same - unsettled.

A few flurries is right and then it disappears 😊. Our roads and footpaths are bad enough without weeks of snow clogging them up even further, and making it nigh on impossible to drive or walk/run anywhere.

Yeah it's nuts, I took the winter jacket out a few weeks ago for my cycle into work, but I put it away again on Tuesday as I was constantly having to stop on my way into work to remove my jacket. I am liking the higher temperatures, but I'd swap it for a lot less rain, and more sun.

Wow! I was thrilled to get to November without having to put on the Central heating. If these temperatures hold as they are for another 3 weeks I might even make it to December without needing to put on the CH!

The temperatures won't hold at the current crazy levels, it will be cooler from tomorrow but still milder than average. 17C both today and yesterday here in Meath, a temperature we struggle to reach up to the 2nd week of June most years here in Meath! Currently temperatures running close to 4C above average for the opening 6 days of November, this will likely fall back to 2 to 3C above average over the coming week and perhaps 1 to 2C above average by end of month if milder than average persists.

In the UK the CET is almost 6C above average for the opening 6 days of November, crazy stuff!. Hopefully not a sign of things to come with us bathed in south-westerlies for the next 3 months!

Looking at the extended range we stay generally mild up to November 22nd with only slight hints of a 1 or 2 day cold snap around the 18th of November which may be the only opportunity for some night frost. The ECM has been playing around with a colder outlook around mid month but it's not well supported.

Big saving on heating bills. A week done in November and I have lit the stove around 7 times since April. It still feels like early October.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,779 ✭✭✭Billcarson

Havent put on my heating yet. These last number of yrs dont need to put it on till around the first or second week of November. Used to be second half of october. As a kid back in the 80s my parents would first light the fire usually around second half of september. How times are changing. I might rejoice in one way saving on heating at this time of yr but in another way i find it disturbing. What will be next? Not needing it on till Dec? Yet another dogshit autumn. Its like our seasons are blending into one bland nothingness slowly but surely as time is going on.

Bit of a manky feel tonight. Damp mild and patchy drizzle. Insects galore. Some sunny days and chilly nights would be welcome.

There was some beautiful light this evening at sunset in Dublin that I got a quick snap of before heading to the job.

So mild. Over 17c recorded in Ireland N Ireland Wales Scotland and England. Its kind of strange but it doesnt seem strange anymore. They just creep up bit by bit each year. Long cold spells are strange now anywhere in the world. When people say maybe this is a sign of the future this is now. Long cold periods arefinished. Short cold ones are still surviving for now.
