Small world! Yeah he dropped out a big bag of wires and controller bits the other day as I needed a few odds and ends for wiring in a CPS2 kick harness. Absolute controller Mage. 😁

I'll send along my regards. It really is a shame a lot of the meetups died off, be great to get one going again.

A loooong time since I played street fighter, I'd say world warrior and alpha 3 would be my best

Missing streetfighter v marvel and super sf2 on cps2.

The tournament edition of super sf2 would be great to have fully going on a bunch of machines

Fighting games are lost on me, even though I played a ton of Tekken 3 and Tekken 5 when growing up. I do enjoy MvC, SF Alpha 3 and Darkstalkers. I was also an avid player of Soulcalibur on the Dreamcast.

I'm randomly itching to play some Destruction Derby. I thought it was developed by Psygnosis but it was just published by them. Developed by Reflections Interactive who also did Driver and Stuntman. I had no idea!

My favourite Street Fighter is still Champion Edition....im a man of simple tastes 🤷🏻

Same here! To this day SFII Champion Edition is the one I always go back to. For me it is perfection.

Warning! Controversial take - I think fighting games peaked with King of Fighters '96. 😬😎

I would count Virtua Fighter 2 as one of my top 3 favourite fighting games of all time.

VF2 is a grossly underrated and overlooked game.

Couldn't agree more. The chess of fighting games.

Limited move set everyone understands off the bat but so many combinations to play out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,966 ✭✭✭unky chop chop

Ywah it's why I love it ..the footsies, feeling our your opponent , baiting them , realizing there weakness from the way they play or them realizing your weakness and having to adjust . It's just finally tuned and anyone looking at a game that isnt extremely familiar with the move sets, strengths and vulnerabilities of each character would not cop the huge strategic mind games that are at play .

Or just lash into them and rush them down like me and hope for the best

It's pretty basic nowadays. The sequel is much better although my personal favourite is demolition racer.

I have too many street fighter games, so I stuck up alpha warriors dreams on the marketplace there, cps2 B board :)

"The chess of fighting games" - eloquently put. Nail on the head.

There should be a Street Fighter II Champion Edition tournament at Base Arcade in the coming months. You should consider making the spin to Belfast, as the atmosphere at the Mortal Kombat II tournament earlier this year was off the charts.

Of course, It was cool to meet other arcade gamers as well. 👍

Thanks for the heads up. :)

It's actually a CPS1 SFII Champion Edition pcb I'm after. Once I have that in my possession I can chill. 😎

I have a bootleg SFII World Warrior pcb that I purchased from a Belfast Operator in 2002, but that has recently given up the ghost... Added to the ever growing repair list. 😬

Do you have enough super street fighter 2 cps2 boards to do the tournament link up?

You need the super street fighter 2 tournament battle roms AND the communication pcb (and 4x cabs).

Repro communication pcb's can be bought here:

    https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/cps2-tournament-link-pcbs.10567/

I believe someone was working on a TB rom hack of super street fighter 2 turbo. Looks like it was finished but needs patreon for the roms.

Man, imagine 4x Duet cabs side by side with this

Finally got some cables for a total carnage pcb. Always a worry it'll be knackered but it works a treat. Messy design though

Great game really, totally over the top. Might not be holding on to it long as need some gambling money for something in japan (humble brags!)

Went to the Irish Gaming Market Winter Edition today. Genuinely wasn't intending to spend any money, expecting overpriced shite but there was a genuinely decent selection there. Definitely some overpriced stuff but plenty of decent €10-20 games, lots of Japanese stuff, boxed consoles, special editions, DnD dice, lots of wood stuff, indie prints, t-shirts, keyrings etc.

It was a fairly small event, the bits outside of the market weren't anything to write home about. The little free play section on the balcony could have been fleshed out a bit more and the fighting game tournament section upstairs felt segregated off from the main event. The main stage seating area was also a bit too small for their cosplay event so it was hard to enjoy without being in the way of the vendor space. I would have liked to get a few pictures of some people on cosplay but my sister wanted to head off at this point. There was some pretty impressive cosplay there. I don't want to sound overly critical though, I appreciate the entertainment going on. €14 tickets if I remember and free parking at the hotel.

The highlight for me was North Down Retro Gaming (picture 9), the selection there was on par if not better than all the years I've been shopping at The Rage. Easily could have grabbed 30 games from them, lots of €10-20 stuff. Loads of juicy consoles, boxed accessories and most in good condition and near complete if not complete. Lots of Japanese stuff and happy to do a few deals too.

Also bought a few games from Collection Mania, apparently they have a unit in Park West for anyone in Dublin so I'll definitely check that out as their prices were reasonable.

I wouldn't say people should travel too far to go to it or anything but the cost was reasonable for how expensive everything is these days. We spent 3 and a half hours there without sitting down for any of the entertainment, I definitely could have stayed longer. I'll definitely be back for the next version after my wallet recovers.

    Apologies for the photo dump!
