I wouldn’t move up from the 2.5 if it’s still working for you. There’s many people on Reddit who have reached their goal weight and lost large amounts of weight and they never moved up from 2.5.

If you think about it, food is clearly moving slower through your system if you’re getting appetite suppression and losing weight. If you jump up a dose while the appetite suppression is still good, that will slow down the food even further and cause all the nasty side effects.

Wait until your losses have slowed or stalled, then move up.

what’s the costs on MJ in an Irish pharmacy for the different doses?

    2.5 is 270 I think what’s the jump up?

Forgot to give myself my 5mg injection last Friday. 6 days later feeling no difference - not feeling hungry, no cravings. I am 10kgs from my target weight having lost 27kgs in 6 months. I've one full pen left but I am thinking of either giving myself 2.5mg injections by counting clicks and once the pen has finished, just to come off it all together. I'll see how I feel in the next week or so before deciding what to do.

you can get MJ in chemist warehouse in Ireland for 220

Decided to change tack on Tuesday, so doing 0.5mg every 4 days now. Suppression was wearing off a bit, and I was stubbornly stuck between 191 and 192lbs for a week.
As you can see in the screengrab below, the GLP plotter says the peaks with the 4 x 0.5mg schedule gives an almost exact same peak as a 7 x 0.75 schedule (approx. 1.1mg). Biggest differences are there are twice as many peaks and the troughs are massively curbed, 0.8mg vs 0.55mg.
Since Tuesday I've noticed a big increase in suppression, and more importantly, I snuck under the 190lb mark today for the first time in nearly a decade!

So now that I'm in the 180 club, next step is to get barred from that and move to 170 land.

Spreading a dose over more injections will mean a more stable levels, ie lower troughs, but also lower peaks. The same peaks doesn't see right. Average should be the same.

Edit: Dose isn't the same that's why.
.5g per 4 days is a higher dose. That'd explain it.

    My update.

So after 3 weeks since my last 5mg injection, I have lost another 1.5kg. The hunger hasn't really returned but the last 5 days the stomach was making constant noises so speed of food digestion increased dramatically. So yesterday evening I decided to start my last remaining pen but gave myself 2.5 dose instead of 5mg and thank god I did that because today I am feeling exactly like I felt when I had started on 2.5mg 7 months ago - cold hands, food digestion barely happening, not interested in food whatsoever so have to force myself to eat. But looks like having a break makes lower doses effective again on re-start or maybe it's just how my body reacted to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,366 ✭✭✭Soarer

Yeah, I think some pharmacies (reading/watching online) will start you again on the 2.5, irrespective of where you were, if you're 4 weeks between doses. So you were very close to that.

Bit of up and down myself with mounjaro, dropped 6kg in 4weeks at 2.5mg but 3 weeks on the 5mg only down 1.5kg same diet and exercise regime. I used someone's my BMI code here which took the sting out of the cost. Can't get over how much cheaper it is then the GP/Health hero route.

Anyone like a code here is mine 297249IE

    how does my bmi work?

Do you go through the consultation with them each month? I presume having a prescription off the doctor already doesn’t really help?

Was just in their website and the price is very good. Does the delivery come in a small enough package that it would go in the letter box or does it need to be signed for?

    Hi all,

For whoever is still on the verge whether to consult their GP about this or not, here’s a quick update from me and my personal experience with this whole Mounjaro experience.

It’s been ~3 months or 12 shots now since I started on MJ. Since I have way too much money, I went the expensive route instead of Wegovy 😂 (joke, it was cheaper back then).

Long story short, I’m now at 88kg at the moment. 20kg down which is really nice. I can’t stress how better both mentally and physically I feel. For whoever was thinking about it: if you’re eligible and you’re in need of this (and approved by the GP) I’d say go for it. It changed my life (for better).

Regarding the dose, I’m still on 2.5mg. GP prescribed 5mg, but I’m controlling myself quite well with 2.5mg and I still didn’t reach that point where the weight is stagnant for 3 weeks or so. Around day 5 there is a bit of a craving kicking back in which funnily enough disappears on day 6/7.

Since GP prescribed 5mg, means that I’m getting a bit more out of my injections now. Likewise, regarding the “golden dose”, I’m also quite fond of getting that bit out as well. Golden dose is quite straight forward. I got the 1ml syringes, coupled with filtered needles to get the medicine out once the pen stops working, and then I would swap to the regular 4mm 32G needles for injection. Once the original 2.5mg pen stopped working I’ve always found that there was probably 0.7ml left even after removing the bubbles.

One thing I did notice (it could be a placebo as well), since I’m using 5mg pens, but talking ”half” a dose (to stay at 2.5mg), I don’t feel like you get the same suppression like form the ”originally” 2.5mg pen when you take the full dose. Sounds crazy, could be placebo (and probably is), but I said might as well share it. So basically my mind thinks that 2.5mg dose delivered in 0.6ml of liquid is far superior than 2.5mg dose delivered in 0.3ml of liquid. Crazy, but that’s where I am 😂.

Another thing that’s still valid is that the quality of the food I’m eating skyrocketed vs the crap I’ve been eating previously (and in questionably large quantities as well!). I definitely feel better about it as well. I don’t think I ever ate this good in terms of macro nutrients and “one ingredient” meals.

As usual, I’m still taking supplements (whey/multivit/fibre) due to calorie deficit and restricted food intake.

1 month into the journey I took my bloods as well to get it checked, and I believe I’ll reschedule the bloods again in months time. This should allow me to monitor the changes in those 3 months to see/understand how my body is reacting to Mounjaro and in general how’s it tolerating this calorie deficit. My GP was great and sent my bloods for crapload of tests that could show if my kidneys are struggling etc.

As with everything, I believe that having a GP in your corner on this one is very useful if not necessary.

P.s. In case anyone else thinks of using mybmi dot ie service (which as a service I can’t recommend enough especially for wegovy due to competitive price approach): 40€ off is available with the referral code 75851Filip20free

You would pay monthly for consultation and then the prescription. Prescription comes next day with DPD including Saturdays in extremely well packaged box. For what it’s worth their packaging and delivery is 2nd to none :) It’s a big box (like a shoe box) and I believe you have to take the parcel personally (can’t be left out in the open). At least that’s how it went with every single DPD delivery i had.

But myBMI as a service were great for me. Can’t recommend them enough.

Don’t stop now with good habits :D It could be again that initially you lost a lot of water like I did so that kinda skews the results, but I’m roughly averaging 0.8-1kg a week now so that seems to be decent. (Of course weight loss also depends on the initial weight…I guess 1kg a week for 60kg person and 160kg person is not the same).

Where have people found the cheapest place to get 15mg Mounjaro in either the Republic or up North?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 229 ✭✭Fwarder

Apparently CUva health + parcel motel mix is the cheapest for things up to 10mg, but for 12.5/15 I’d say you’re stuck with Corry’s/Belcoo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

I contacted PillSorted in the UK as they seemed to be the cheapest for a once off 15mg pen (they give a £40 discount off your first pen) and they seemed to have no problem posting it to Border Parcel Motel in Belcoo. However, because I am now under a normal BMI, they would only prescribe me the 5mg pen for maintenance, despite me showing evidence of my prescription - dated in the last six weeks - from my GP. So that was the end of that. McKeagneys in Newry seem to be the cheapest otherwise. £309 for the 15mg dose plus £15 for delivery. Corrys isn't much more expensive, £340 including delivery. Since I spent too much time messing around with Pillsorted and because Corrys already have a copy of my prescription, I just went with them.

If you are still over a BMI of 30, and have day-to-day health insurance with ILH or VHI, the cheapest option is myBMI. MyBMI won't take you on as a new patient unless you are over the BMI 30 mark, even if you have been on MJ for some time. They split the cost of getting the 15mg pen between a "consultation" and the cost of the pen itself, with the majority being the consultation. If you have, say, the VHI plan where you can get 75% back on GP fees, it can work out as significantly cheaper than any other supplier. The only thing is that this is a monthly subscription service, so you can't be counting the clicks on the 15mg pen, taking a lower dose and getting the pen to last 6+ weeks. You have to pay for the consultation and new pen every month. If you were willing to do that, and let a few pens build up in your fridge, then it probably would be cheaper over the course of a year.

I've decided that this 15mg pen that is on it's way to me will be my last highest dose pen. I'm 146lbs now, nearly 60lbs lost, and really happy with my weight loss and how I look. I'd like to get to 140lbs, and then I will start titrating downwards. I expect that a maintenance dose for me will be between the 5mg and 7.5mg dose, and I'll aim to go verrrrrry slowly down to that point over the course of six months. I understand that I might put back on 5-10lbs while my body/brain settles into the right place, hence why I'd like a little buffer of getting down to the 140lb mark. I understand that my hunger will come back (unfortunately, because I enjoy not being hungry) and my cravings for crap will come back, but I'm hoping that keeping on the maintenance dose will mean that hunger and those cravings won't be as overwhelming as they were for the past 48 years! I also understand that I will put a little weight back on, but that's nothing to panic about and should settle down.

Ideally, my long term goal is to go down to 2.5mg for maintenance. At that stage the oral GLP1 pill might be out, and I might decide to switch to that. Or I may decide to switch to Wegovy for maintenance, if it is still better value than MJ. This is of course assuming both alternative medications work as well as MJ for maintenance.

With all the new research coming out about the benefits of GLP1s on inflammation and prevention of dementia/Alzheimers, I have no real urge to come off the medication entirely. I'm definitely more focused on protein and fibre now, so I do think that I have made some beneficial permanent changes to my diet, but likely not enough to come off GLP1s entirely and maintain the weight loss through diet and exercise alone.

I'll continue to post here and keep ye all up to date on progress.

Following on from this, I got kicked out of the 180 club yesterday morning and joined the 170 brigade. Never thought I'd get down to this sort of weight so easily, and less than 3 months from starting. I'm 41.6lbs down, which is 0.4lbs off exactly 3 stone.

I'm still doing my own thing as regards dosages ie. 5mg from a 15mg pen every 4 days. Seems to be working ok for me. In an absolutely ideal world I'd like to lose another stone and maybe a small bit more, but truth be told, if I was to stay put, I'd not be disappointed. Still have around half my 15mg pen to go and have unopened 7.5, 10 and 12.5mg pens in the fridge. Like I said, I wasn't expecting it to go this well.

Anyways, here's to getting an invitation to the 160 club in the next few weeks.

    Evening Boardsies.

Just thought I'd pass on the following information. Haven't looked at pricing and stuff for a while, so no idea how good or bad the following is.

McNally's Pharmacy up in Newry contacted me today. I'd been onto them previously about getting a pen, but they weren't doing deliveries.
They've since jumped into bed with Xpect couriers for Mounjaro deliveries.
So the pharmacy prices for the pens are as follows:
    2.5mg – £164.99
    5mg – £184.99
    7.5mg – £239.99
    10mg - £259.99
    12.5mg – £289.99
    15mg – £318.99

The courier collects on a Saturday morning from the pharmacy and will deliver to Dublin same day for €15, or outside Dublin on the Sunday for €20.

    The pharmacy's WhatsApp number is +44 7934 811850
    The courier's WhatsApp number is +353 85 105 5145

Like I said, I've no skin in this particular game. It might help some people out.

thanks I looked at my BMI ask for pictures no reference of scale and big consultation fee that isn’t refunded . So was wondering why big fee if have all information they need to say if eligible . Maybe someone can shed some light . Or if someone can recommend providers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

The reason why myBMI have a large consultation fee and low fee for the actual pen is because they're aware that many of their customers have day-to-day health insurance where you can get varying amounts of fees back for GP costs, which the myBMI consultation fee counts as. This can be anything from €25 per appointment for a max of six appointments a year, up to 75% of the GP fee back for a higher number of appointments.

Just to note, it appears Laya won't cover myBMI GP costs, but Irish Life and VHI do.

This brings down the monthly cost significantly if you have this type of insurance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Donohoe10

and you will get your money back if its rejected. its happened to a few I know and they all got money back.

yes as above its to take down the cost through insurance providers and also you dont have to pay VAT over €150 and the medicine costs €149 after you pay the consult fee :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 343 ✭✭LastApacheInjun

In fairness to myBMI, their pricing structure really does benefit their customers. An actual bit of thought went into it.

That said, I don't particularly the whole model of online pharmacy subscriptions for private medicines. I think doctors and chemists should be separate. There's masses of profit to made through private prescriptions, especially in the UK where chemists mostly make a fixed fee from NHS prescriptions. Possibly that's why the online doctor/pharmacy hasn't really taken off here.

The whole "here's a discount code, get your friends to sign up" makes it more like TEMU and less like a doctor deciding on a serious medication to resolve a serious medical issue.

can anyone run me through bmi consultation . Relevant to pay consult fee as it’s alot and I’ve read FAQs and no reference to refund if don’t proceed

I asked for Ozempic but its €140 a month and I cant spare that at the moment.

Years ago I was on Xenical but my weight largely stayed the same. My willpower with food was much less back then. I had a minor stroke last year and that has made me much more cautious with food. I havent eaten one jelly sweet this year.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if VHI and Irish Life cop on to what they're up to and clamp down on this gaming of the system.
