    1. Bags - those "ton bags" vary from supplier to supplier, and yes, my experience of them from various suppliers is that you end up with a lot of tiny bits, sawdust on dirt. On the other hand, the bags are useful if you need large bags for moving stuff eg grass cutting from a big garden too big for brown bin disposal.
    2. From what's posted on here & elsewhere, RW don't appear to have delivered any fuel to customers since February. Everyone who orders is given a date a month or two out, and that gets pushed back monthly with nobody who has ordered since around 29th January getting their orders. I had minor issues with 2 small orders in January also, having been reasonably happy with them for about 18 months. It remains to be seen if anybody will actually get their orders, or if they will go into liquidation leaving you doing a chargeback. Again, Revolut refused my original chargeback because I gave them the date of my original delivery and they said it was too far back in the past, even though I had received nothing. They may or may not know that different banks policies on time passed since the original delivery date might prevent successful chargebacks.
    3. The story with RW currently seems to be that their main supplier in the north Mercer Agencies, went into administration last November, with RW being their largest debtor. As the administrators have tried to pressurize RW into a payment plan, that's impacted their ability to trade as normal. Unfortunately what seems to have happened is that RW have continued to take advance orders as per normal and sit on them while the customers are left wondering what happened to their orders, as they are just pushed back every month. The legal situation around Brexit plays a role here due to mutual court recognition and ability to enforce debt collection.
    4. People are having great difficulty in getting their money back if they do cancel. I can attest to this. CCPC will respond but since I managed to get my money back from just sitting on the phone with RW, I can't say how effective they have or will be.
    5. There's lots of other options although as everyone correctly notices, mostly more expensive. It would appear that there's a flaw in the business model there. Sometimes a deal just is too good to be true.

I managed to cancel an order last week, i recorded the phone call (told them so also) and got it in an email that my cancellation would be processed "in a timely manner"... still dont hold out much hope of actually getting a refund without a fight, but we'll see...

Rathwoods T&C's state within 14 days for a refund as does EU regulations. That's unlikely to happen but not much you can do about it unfortunately. That's the killer.

make an official complaint to CCPC

ITS ILLEGAL if they hold your money beyond 14 days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 310 ✭✭dubguy45

I have been down that Road already this year regarding Rathwood. The CCPC are well intensioned but cannot fully represent one individual. They are underfunded and under staffed. I failed to find any route into getting help via EU Regulations. One of my two outstanding orders was purchased on 01/01/25. How they are allowed to continue to sell advanced delivery orders is criminal.

just checked with co-op and they have firewoods in crates for €299 beech and birch available, not the best bargain but if someone just wants a small amount you could split a crate with a neighbour

no but they can hold official complaints and investigate the company

RE bags I just had 2x "ton" bags from Dublin Logs (they did have oak in stock at the weekend if interested).

Having bought mainly from the spoofers for 2 years I think the bags that arrived were about double the size of what the spoofers call a ton back and absolutely stuffed. I think the 2 bags are the size of my car! Driver was helpful too, took away pallet and helped my tarp over the bags to keep the rain off until later. I have some amount of stacking to do! I expected around 450kg but I think this is closer to 600kg. I'll confirm later.

link to the Boyles offer -

1.93m3 Crate (4 Rows) – Kiln Dried Birch Logs | Boyles Solid Fuels

seems like the best value we've seen so far this autumn…

    Is that 650kg?

looks decent value but i had birch too years ago and it burned down too quickly . One i switched to oak, there was no gong back.

I agree regarding the oak. Can't get past the fact that this wood costs the same as a ton of smokless coal.

I'll see your oak and I'll raise you hornbeam! Tried it for the first time from Kenny Fuels this year and it burns as long as oak, if not longer, but burns with more of a flame. A bit more expensive but I'm well happy with it!

I don't use a whole lot. Got a 1.2m crate in mid-September and I'm only about 1/6th the way through.

I’d probably light my stove 3 times a week. Would you be similar. Chat GPT estimates 3-4 months for me.

RW Cancellation and refund has landed in my bank account. That seems to be the end of it for us, thankfully.

Did have to hound them on the phone, inform them that I was recording the phone calls and ask for everything they said on tge phone documented in email also.

If you call them, go straight to the Sales option and not online orders or customer support. They are pretty quick to answer the sales line!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,424 ✭✭✭geographica

I’ve emailed them today to confirm I want a refund, did it take you long to get it?

I expect a bit of a battle so I threatened them with legal action if not in my account within working 10 days

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,288 ✭✭✭rino87

I cancelled over the phone on October 23, got an email confirmation of same.

No sign of money, so called them again Tuesday last and told them I wanted confirmation of the refund in my email. It arrived that evening and the funds landed today.

The seemed to play ball pretty quick when you tell them the call is being recorded.
