I brought one in from NI , a bit better value compared to here. UK was looking a bit more expensive when you factor everything in

Got the WRS0 update today, there's been a lot of battery issues with the Gen 1 version and this let's Porsche monitor the battery remotely before the car goes on fire
Apparently they are including HV battery defects now in the extended warranty

My insurance renewal quote on my Taycan has jumped from 700 to 1000 this year, despite no difference in circumstances or NCB.

I've tried various online quotes and most just refuse to offer a quote at all. Has anyone had luck with particular insurers for their Taycan? I'm with 123.ie who happened to be my insurer before I bought the Taycan, and I did have trouble finding alternative quotes previously too but I was never too bothered as I was getting a good price anyway.

Campion, Axa, Aib, Supervalu were the only ones to quote for me all around the 1K mark :(

Supervalu being the cheapest at 980. 41, Full NCB

So what's the future for these yokes?

Porsche recently pulling back from the EV market to (re)concentrate on ICE?

Are they ? New macan was only just released and all new electric cayenne coming soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Porsche profits have tumbled and they recently announced a loss for the first time in years.
the move to EV was a mistake for them they have admitted and they are apparently re engineering the macan to accept a petrol hybrid system as well as the new boxster/cayman which were to have been all electric.

Fair enough, I'm sure they will still have EVs though

Reading it now , apparently Chinese sales have fallen off a cliff , and us tariffs were a major issue not sure moving away from EVs will fix that issue for them ? But let's see.

what’s the worst that could happen when taycan go sub €50k …. Or is it best just stay away from older Taycans no matter what the price and go with an etron if an EV sports car tickles your fancy?

Go for it but pay the €3K or whatever to extend the warranty with Porsche. With an e-Tron GT you’re on your own but they’re better value on paper. Example here thats 2 years newer and they have the bigger battery as standard: https://www.donedeal.ie/view/41045327

I think the aftermarket “upgrades” on that particular Taycan cheapen it but some people will feel different about such additions.

Sweet baby Jesus those wheels are horrendous all the same.

Warranty extension is 1350 ish per year on a 23 car, maybe more on older but can extend for 3 years for about 3.5k as there's a discount.

RWD model, 4s might be more.

Unlimited Mileage warranty - and Porsche assistance is another optional add on too. I think you need to own the car for 90 days at least before you can get the 111 point check with Porsche, for them to give you the warranty. Big risk buying these cars without cover. They're so tempting now after the depreciation, even the Etron GT but there's no option to extend a warranty with Audi unfortunately, and if anything big or catastrophic goes in them, you're goosed 😊

beautiful car but try to get seller to get extended warranty before you buy. 111 point check cost approx €500 with Porsche Dublin.

I suspect this car doesn’t have any Porsche warranty , so might be tricky to get warranty extension here.

On the car itself, i has a 2021 4S, traded it back to Porsche last april. Fantastic car to drive and not just in a straight line. It has 1st gen tech so wont be up there with tesla tech etc, and the range is only approx 240km in winter.

Check with seller and get proof that it had all its recalls and defect fixed under original warranty, as 2020 taycans were notoriously unreliable

Extended the warranty on my own 2023 car for two years as its up in January. 2,470 for two years, no 111 point check once still in warranty but agree with the the points about buying one out of warranty is risky business, the flip side is battery issues should be easily identifiable so if no issues there there's alot less else to go wrong than an ice car.

The warranty is extendable up to 12 years or 160k km I was told.

re warranties- isn’t there an 8 year /160 km battery warranty as standard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,270 ✭✭✭✭User1998

Yes, but the extended warranty would presumably cover all other aspects of the car as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

its not the battery you worry about, its the motors and other bits.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,062 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Full drivetrain incl. motors would normally be included in the 8yr warranty, but yeah it's the fiddly stuff that's more likely to bring the ownership experience down rapidly. The battery and motors would be the least of my concerns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57 ✭✭slideaway

Yep complicated cars, air suspension, motors etc.

I ran a Cayenne hybrid for 5 years and it was the ICE components that needed work, nothing major tbf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,382 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

maybe porsche are different but audi dont cover the motors under battery warranty. Hence the fear of owning an out of warranty etron.
