has anyone here ever pulled the trigger on a Taycan from an Indy dealer? Or privately? With full Porsche service history but no extended warranty? Are they easy to get afterwards following an 111 point inspection? And can the Independent Porsche Specialists in Ireland service Taycans or do they stick to ICE - I’ve test driven one in recent days, and a Model S 😂 two different beasts but both very nice in different ways,

Not personally but I have thought about that 111 point check requirement before in that context. I suspect that 111 point check could flag a lot of issues on a 4-5 year old Taycan. Even normal service items like discs/pads will be big money with Porsche. This could easily turn into a pretty heavy repair bill before they’d allow you purchase the extended warranty. Might be a little more straightforward if the independent dealer had a decent relationship with PCD to get it over the line. ? You can start to see why an approved used car from Porsche attracts a premium over similar cars for sale outside the dealer network.

yeah very true, would really come down to the relationship the Indy has with Porsche. As far as I know over a year ago Dave in dobsports was planning on getting the equipment and training everyone for working on Porsche EV’s so I’m sure the other Indy specialists are the same - but yeah that 111 point inspection, whatever it detects you of course pay for before they’ll even sell you the warranty. There’s some high mileage Taycans in circulation also, that could exceed the battery warranty mileage before the 8 yrs, but I think batteries are probably the least likely to go wrong anyway

If an indy is selling one there will be a warranty included of some sort so worth checking what that covers versus the 111 check.

I just extended my warranty, in two years two heaters replaced under recall (was no issue with them) and a charging unit went, car wouldn't move (no idea of cost but doubt it would be cheap).

PCD confirmed over the phone the warranty can be extended up to 15 yrs or 160k km

Does anyone know if the indy Porsche specialists in Ireland work on Taycans? the likes of OPH, Specialist Cars, DOB Sports etc. or are you tied to Joe Duffy for any required maintenance or repairs?

I don't know the answer to your question, but do you own or are you planning to buy a Taycan outside of warranty?

I don't own one, but have been seriously looking at the possibility of one, or Etron GT this past while, given the depreciation, (was close to buying Model S a couple months back but changed my mind) - I know the Approved warranty is great piece of mind, but there's value out there (or perceived value) on examples with no warranty, but full Porsche service history, and surely they can't all be bad right? :-) I know it only takes one "serious" issue to change that of course….

ones with warranty are more expensive for a good reason! youd want to be keeping 10k to the side if buying without imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭offalyguy25

Yeah you’re probably correct, I guess the long term data is not really there on them just yet. I thought if there were more places open to repairing them and maintaining them it would make potential ownership a little easier rather than going to Porsche Centre Ireland all the time for anything.

Shure what could possibly go wrong, right? 😁

We could only wish we had EV indies here that operate nationwide like Cleevely in the UK.

haha exactly, what’s the worst that could happen 😂 - for sure, would only love it if we had Indy specialists like that here, and maybe there are a few it’s just difficult to find any information or they’re not widely advertised

Negotiate the price of putting a warranty on it with the seller?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭offalyguy25

tried that too, easier in theory, in fairness I’ve seen some private selling ones with full Porsche service history so you’d expect recalls etc to be done, I know Porsche charge the guts of 500 to do the 111 point check and you’ve to fix any issues found before they’ll sell you a warranty, to be honest the future of these cars and ownership will only succeed if you can get maintenance and repairs done in various other specialist places and not be tied to Joe Duffy. They’re an amazing car, as are the Etron GT’s - but being able to sleep at night while owning one probably means either a warranty or a hefty pot of cash as buffer 😀

last time I spoke to Dave about Taycans (end of 2025) he wasn’t seeing any yet but anticipated that he would be.

I don't think I'd be too scared of owning one as long as it still had battery warranty. The chances of such a new car developing faults is very low. The main reasons I wouldn't buy one would be the steep depreciation and the fact it would be extremely hard to sell

I put a €1000 deposit on on, gave up after 3mts, couldn’t deliver it to me as the amount of problems getting parts (yes they blamed Putin, some of the parts are made in Russia).

I was so excited to buy my first Porsche, between everything I went though I’d dodged a serious financial bullet. Eventually asked for my deposit back, got sick of waiting.

I wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole warranty or no warranty unless I had it in writing that when it’s in for repair they’ll supply with me a similar or any car, best of luck getting that off Porsche.

Buy a model 3 performance if you need that kind of power and don’t look back.

I wouldn’t take one as a present, it’s just a liability. I’m sure people probably had good experiences but when there’s 20k cars just as quick and more reliable listen to your head.

if you are questioning the value of spending €1-2k on getting the Porsche warranty, stay away from these cars , they’re not for the faint hearted for potential repairs. Could you afford to spend €10k to keep the car on the road ?

I’m on my second Porsche EV, Taycan and now Macan and thankfully nothing has gone wrong over last 2 yrs . I have both warranty and service plans in place but based on feedback on the Porsche forums , i am still expecting a bill when my Macan goes in for a service in 4k km.

Taycan is a dream car to drive (especially on R roads) , so if you’re upto taking the risk of costly repairs, go for it !

Heavy depreciation is priced in at its stage, especially the 2021-2023 versions, but the tec is a bit dated

Unfortunately there are lots of niggles battery aside and you have Porsche repair costs !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55 ✭✭slideaway

I've found PCD fine over the years so wouldn't be worried about being tied if your in warranty, as said above risky business with any of these cars out of warranty.

agree on independents but realistically in the near term it's PCD with a warranty as the least stressful/costly option.

2.5 years in and no regrets still enjoy the car alot. Infotainment is a bit niggly but apart from that it's a brilliant package for what I need.

Do PCD offer PCP on used Taycans, just got a horrendous trade in offer, 8 to 11k less than anywhere else

if they do, I bet the interest rate is high.

    What are you trading in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭offalyguy25

They'll do PCP up to 12 months old on a car, that's it - but the percentage is closer to 10% I believe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,649 ✭✭✭impr0v

How do you like that? I am not sure I have seen one in the wild in Ireland yet, yet I have seen numerous M5s in both shapes. Even the base new model e-class seems a lot rarer than the eqivalent 5 series.

I have done (almost) the opposite - I just traded a 172 E43 in for a 241 GTS Sport Turismo.

I have it 5 months and engine blew up in january !

New engine fitted by mercedes wexford and i just got it back on monday.

Previous to that i loved it in fairness. it is a step up in Comfort, quality and technology.im nervous now its going to

down tools again but hopefully not. they are a good few around ,i suppose you only notice them when you have one.

Performance wise, they are about the same in terms of speed.

The Taycan was nice dont get me wrong,it was actually my second one (first one broke too,i know !! )

i lost 50% on it in 2.5 years when trading.

PCD are fairly good to deal with.

Would i buy another one again - probably not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,649 ✭✭✭impr0v

That’s bad luck. The E43 was obviously a simpler machine without any hybrid components, but aside from two pothole-cracked wheels I had no trouble with it over 6 and a bit years. It’s highly unlikely you will have similar issues again.

50% over that timeframe is high, but probably not wildly off standard depreciation at the same time. The price of a Taycan no doubt makes it painful to take.

Just got a 231 RWD Taycan - my starter Porsche. 🙃

The car is a UK import. My phone is with 3. The sim that comes with the car, giving updates and DAB is Vodafone Ireland. How does that work? Surely Vodafone need to be paid something…

    TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,264 ✭✭✭joe1303l

It’s likely standard VAG group setup with data connection free for the first 36 months and then an annual subscription thereafter. Your 231 Taycan might still be less than 3 years old or the previous owner may have extended. Well wear, it’s by far the best looking EV out there.

Might be wise to extend your warranty with Porsche Ireland if you don’t have one.

Here’s a natural reply you can post with your website link included:

Thanks for the info, that makes sense. The car is still under 3 years so that probably explains why the data connection is still active. I’ll definitely look into extending the warranty with Porsche Ireland as well, just to be on the safe side.

By the way, for anyone in Ireland who needs to quickly calculate VAT for purchases or expenses, this tool is quite handy:
