I've majorly cooled on Baleba after his performances this year. Raises large questions on his mentality imo.

Exactly… and it bothers them now that they’re completely found out. As another poster said earlier, imagine putting yourself in a position where you can’t enjoy a United victory.

There were reasons for City and Chelsea beating them this season too but they both lost. The teams who finished 3rd and 4th last season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I bet City and Chelsea expected to win and were disappointed to lose.

But that’s the whole point, you can expect all you want but football games are won or lost on the pitch. It doesn’t matter how the odds look on paper before the game.

Personally I am hopeful of a win today but wouldn't be overly confident of it. It's performances and results over the next few games in general that are important. A draw today, while a bit deflating, wouldn't be too bad if they can pick up a few wins in the other games.

People going on about Brighton being a mid table side, currently so are we, at best, until we show otherwise!

We're nowhere near the point where we can be expecting to win games. Recent history doesn't back that up. A confident win today would help in that regard though.

I'm not sure how anyone would be confident of a win or expecting a win tbh, even the most optimistic, xg loving fans would be more hopeful then expecting. It'll definitely take most people more then two wins to think we should be winning all most of our games again

The more pessimistic fans, who think we have a crap midfield (tbf everyone thinks this) a bad manager, who constantly makes bad decisions expecting wins is completely contradictory

Leon scored for the under 21s v Tottenham. Seemed to play ok, but was taken off about 10 minutes ago.

The misery in here is unbearable at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,406 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Agree, he hasn't looked great this year and last year could have been a one season wonder. Splashing 100m on him could be repeating the mistakes of the past, chasing the next big thing at an astronomical price. I would hope there is a slightly more proven option around the 70m mark

Personally I'm sorry we missed Palhinha on a loan

lads, it’s not unrealistic to think Brighton will get something from the game today.. they’ve taking points from teams better than us, and we are in a similar position in the league.. nothing miserable or gloomy about that. Just the facts.

from the side thats expects nothing, or from the side that expects something? maybe both i suppose, but thats the point of a discussion forum.

It was more based on the he said she said type. Very boring point scoring stuff

Think your post is part of the problem! You basically have the cherry picking of the thou shalt not criticize Bruno brigade and then the hyper critical crowd who are both over-represented.

I love Bruno but I don’t think it’s much of a reach to say his character and leadership on the field has its flaws. He is one of the most petulant players at times. Running yourself into the ground was the baseline before btw. In different circumstances/times, I don’t think he’d be in the captain conversation which is fine.

You take the good with the bad and he’s one of our best players.

I think this game is perhaps the most important we've had in the past year.

Win this and its 3 wins in a row with a lot of winnable games to come. Keep up this momentum and Amorim can start to put his record behind him and create a new record. Get these wins and he will be comfortably upper table and will get the time he wants.

Lose it, or even draw it and everybody will think nothing has changed.

Nothing is guaranteed, that doesn't even need to be said. But all the chips are in his favour here and he has a huge chance to take his second wind. If he goes on to win the league people will look back to this period as when it all started to go right.

This should be an exciting time, don't fans want to have confidence on days like this?

I agree with a lot of this post and have said and think similarly about the importance of today's game.

It's just the not so subtle setting of the table for if the not in anyway implausible happens of Manchester United football club failing to win a match post 2013.

Anyway we can all agree we want to win today and win comfortably.

And we'll all be reminiscing together circa May 2028 about sticking with a manager through thick and thin and reaping the rewards!

Of course we want to be confident of victory but we haven’t got to that stage in our development yet , you can’t just disregard the other teams credentials or our record against them. I think we’ll win today but it’s far from a sure thing.

1.1. A draw would be a good result. Brighton have a good record against us but we are at home. Id be happy with a draw but love a win.

Sesko and Yoro in for Mount and Maguire.

Mount on the bench. No Maguire. Malacia on the bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,874 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Malacia must have been putting in work to get back into matchday squad.

Welbeck will get his annual old Trafford goal so hopefully the lads have it in them to score a few today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭mobydopy

Baleba will be keen to impress today but looking at that Brighton side, we should be beating them regardless of our record against them or their record against the top teams

    2-1 United win.

Got to laugh when it's pointed out that Brighton are unbeaten against the big teams in the last 12 outings, and still you have people saying that it's ridiculous if we don't beat them today.

I hope we'll win. I'm relatively confident that we'll win. But to take it for granted that we should succeed where Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Spurs, Newcastle and ourselves have failed in the last 12 attempts is silly.

15 to go and it’s nearly that time to crack open a beer and hope we can purr this evening.

Going with a hard 2-1 win for us.

By all accounts he has greatly impressed everyone with his work rate and drive. Delighted for him and shows that with the right attitude you get a fair chance. Suggests the bomb squad really didn't take theirs.

Ideal situation would be for him to get some minutes off the bench this year in the shop window and a move away for him in Jan maybe

Looking forward to that front line today and good Mount is on the bench - knock can't have been too much hopefully
