Really looking forward to Licha's return. That's if he can stay fit and regain his first season's form (and those are big "ifs" in fairness).

Predictions for the Brighton game? We have a lot of "easier" fixtures until mid January.

As has been said before, while the recent record against Brighton has been horrendous, it is a home game which United needs to be winning. If Brighton at home is a big test after spending a quarter of a billion Euro this summer, then we are in a lot of trouble. I don't care if it is 1-0 with the winner scored by OG in the 109th minute, we need 3 points.

Between now and January, we need to be winning the vast majority of games if we want to talk about the team threatening top 4. And in fairness, I recall there is a United fan who for a year has sworn not to cut his hair again until United have won 5 games in a row. Tomorrow needs to be 3 in a row to give this lad some hope.

If Amorim has anything about him, then after a big win with a full squad and a week to prepare, then he sends his team out at home motivated and tactically prepared to beat a midtable side.

If he just relies on better players to come up with moments, then who knows, might win, might not.

I think they will win, relatively comfortably. 3-1. Because I can't at all see why they wouldn't.

Brighton have an unbelievable record against big clubs home and away. They're unbeaten in their last 12 league games v Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Utd, Spurs and Newcastle combined.

    -

    Brighton 2-1 Newcastle

    Chelsea 1-3 Brighton

    Brighton 2-2 Spurs

    Brighton 2-1 City

    Tottenham 1-4 Brighton

    Brighton 3-2 Liverpool

    Brighton 1-1 Newcastle

    City 2-2 Brighton

    Brighton 3-0 Chelsea

    Man Utd 1-3 Brighton

    Brighton 1-1 Arsenal

    Brighton 2-1 City

    -

I think people need to reign in their expectations a bit. Utd are at home and rightfully favourites but it's far from a slam dunk and the same goes for any team that plays them. It's not a disaster or worthy of a meltdown if you don't beat Brighton.

Brighton have a great record at old Trafford, won the last 3 in a row, 3 different managers too. Be a nice streak to break for a change.

They aren't real expectations people are making ones they don't actually believe so they can rage when they don't happen because That's easier then enjoying a couple of wins

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

You keeping throwing in these digs at me, but the irony is that out of the two of us I'm the one who actually thinks the team could do well if only they would. You'd prefer people just shut up and quietly settled for the mediocrity. I think they will win tomorrow, you are already predicting what will happen when they lose.

Its silly anyway. For your point to be true it would that mean I don't actually believe United can beat a midtable side despite all the elements being in their favour. Despite me predicting they would beat Liverpool.

I think United will beat Brighton because they absolutely should be beating Brighton. Feel free to actually say what you think will happen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

I'll agree with this much it is silly That's for sure, silly to set wild expectations like winning every game until January just so when it downs happen you can keep saying everything is a let down just in case Amorim turns it around.

Must be wild to be hoping against hope he won't turn it around and not be able to enjoy any wns

You know very well that thinking all those games are winnable and therefore should be won, is not the same as demanding a 100% record. But since you know damn well United should be winning tomorrow I guess you need to go back to that previous post to find some angle to take.

    Any predictions for tomorrows game?

Like I said, one of us thinks we can win all these games. You clearly don't. And yet I am the negative one. Go figure.

Record not great against Brighton but we've overhauled our attacking lineup that are starting to look well, should be a different game.

Cuhna and Mbeumbo are machines and give us a totally different dynamic than when we've met them previously.

Our goals vs against are pretty identical so could go either way.

Home win for us, Cuhna to get his first.

Crowd to be rocking in support. Would be a game id love to go to at OT.

These are a more than decent team that will stretch us. After that massive boost last week we’ll need to make this is 3 in a row to continue climbing a mountain that I feel we’ve the players to do it with now.

With the Keeper now settling in, the ship can settle into calm waters and kick on and create waves that’ll worry the others.

Like most on here I’m really looking forward to this evenings game.

    Come on United.

Still find criticism of him as a person/character/leader baffling. Absolutely love that guy. Always ready to play and run himself into the ground for 90+ minutes. Never seems to complain off the pitch. Ultimate professional.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

It's more so your constant covering of all your bases. There is an undertone to all these posts you're making and everyone can see it. You're chomping at the bit to stick the boot in.

For what it's worth, I expect us to do them today and I'd be hoping by a couple of goals. They're a good side though.

while we did lose the 3 at home to BHU, looking at the lineups:

Jan 25 3-1 loss. only 4 should start today - de ligt, yoro (or maguire), bruno and amad.

Sep 23 3-1 loss. only 2 should start today - bruno and casemiro

Aug 22 2-1 loss. only 2 (maybe 3) should start today - shaw and bruno (and maguire if he starts today instead of yoro)

i dont think we can legitimately use the above past performances as an indicator of how today will go. the team has changed far too much.

in amorim's one home game against them, he was in the job 2 months and with the system being so complicated the players wouldn't have known it by then.

my prediction is a 3-1 win.

    1-1 or 2-2

I see a draw here too and not a bad result being honest, especially if it's with a good performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,049 ✭✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Yeah I'm thinking a score draw will be the result. Hopefully the win away to Liverpool after so many years will be a big boost mentally for this team and they can go one better to make it three in a row. That lad desperately needs a haircut.

How does the Brighton line ups compare? The stat amuses me. 3 visits to Old Trafford, 3 different Brighton managers, 3 wins.

I'm expecting Baleba to show why he is wanted at United today, big chance for him to cover over his shite performances this season.

If Mount is available I am confident we can get it done today, if he does miss out I'll be a bit more apprehensive. Hopefully Cunha gets off the mark but the main thing is a 3 points, good performance would be nice but I'd settle for whatever way it comes at the moment. The team lurches week to week from crisis to optimism, that has to stop - just putting a little run together whatever way it happens would be huge for this squad

You’re absolutely spot on, it’s so predictable and boring at this stage… you get the feeling one or two on here are happier when we lose.

For those interested, have the rest of the games if anyone is ever stuck.

I said we would easily beat Fulham, and when we didn't I had about 1 post the following week. I barely posted after Brentford game. My actual posting doesn't actually follow this narrative at all.

You think I am waiting to stick the boot in? Waiting for what exactly? The performance over the past year has been so poor that all the boots went in a long time ago and its just waiting for godot at this stage.

If Amorim went on a tear now and qualified for CL I would happily give him praise and credit for doing so, but I suspect I would then get called a flip-flopper or something like that. No matter, I'll do it anyway if he now goes on a run.

Do you know who are most worried about people sticking the boot in? Those who were loudest about disagreeing, but who now start to realise they may have been wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,211 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

I really don't believe or agree with the practice of spending 100m+ on these players, so I really hope Baleba doesn't have some 10/10 game that gets the hype going and leads to a big overspend next summer.

I want good players to come in, but I have my doubts about him and think its a huge risk. Running around Bruno and Casemiro all day isn't the flex it once might have been, but if he does it then the hype will soar.

You need to look at some of the posters who are talking up up our expected result against Brighton, some imo are talking it up in the hope to knock it down later.

*i see this has been discussed already

I’m getting horrible flashbacks to the last time we played Brighton. Onana diving out of goal and practically handing the ball to Rutter. It honestly looked like he’d put a cheeky punt on 3–1.

    Again, just nonsense.

There is a laundry list of reasons United should be winning today.

At home. Against a midtable side. No injuries. Coming of the back of a great win away to Liverpool. Players in form, players confident. No midweek game to distract, all week to prepare tactically.

If we can't confidently call this one a victory then what the **** is wrong with people.
