I've a 211 1st edition with similar mileage. Got a few prices from VW that didn't seem great given what they're selling for. Price I was getting was around 4k lower than back in May and seemed suspiciously like the dealer was just going to pocket the deposit contribution. I found the couple of dealerships I contacted weren't great with information or knowledge about the cars. The whole situation put me off VW a little to be honest, can't see myself buying off them in future.

link is not working. I used Divanes for my original ID4. Traded in 2007 VW Touran. That died before the ID4 was delivered. They still gave me a deal. Several k cheaper than other garages.
I upgraded to a 251 at Easter and rhey also looked after me.

I got that one today after an update, it went away a while later but the central locking wouldn't engage during the error

I've had one door handle replaced and I suspect another one is on the way out as it can take a few goes to open some days

I might see if I can find an indy to check it as I'm completely fed up of the VW garage

Meanwhile my old 2016 Leaf continues to have zero problems....

Thanks, any suggestions of an independent EV garage in Dublin?

As far as I know the central locking is still working, it's just the light/error message

When I asked on a worldwide FB group they said that the doors were subject to a recall but I think that's just in the US?

Likewise, I've had 4 Leafs over the years with basically zero issues ever! Unimpressed by VW service previously, will not be buying another VW EV (unless it's under warranty for my period of ownership!)

Even under warranty why would you buy one? Unless you fancy not seeing it as much as other brands.

John Earls seems to get recommended here quite a bit, not that far from Dublin if can’t find anyone local in terms of an EV specialist. That said door handles shouldn’t be any different on an EV from any other vehicle.

    Ive had 0 issues with a 1st edition ID4, a 23 ID3, and a 24 ID4. No idea what your last sentence means.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,307 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    Well done.

Plenty of examples in this forum alone of unhappy owners with niggly issues with their ID4s. And a very clear message of dissatisfaction regarding VW service when problems rear their heads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭ted1

That is the nature of a forum, go to any discussion form about any product and it'll be full of people having issues. especially ne that is constantly the top seller.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,307 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

    🤔

Not sure that's bearing out on the service side, whatever about the product side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 5,630 ✭✭✭finbarrk

That's the nature of car forums. The majority of people are happy but they don't come on here saying it. Like myself.

Being the top seller means nothing, people buy what they like without much research, they want the VW SUV to drive to the schools, doesn't matter if it was reliable or not once it's believed the car was expensive.

My id3 was plagued with issues which were never going to get resolved, some more serious was intermittently loosing all infotainment and Instrument cluster meaning no heat/ac no radio/nav no ability to control anything and no speedometer, imagine explaining that to a judge ! the interior was dirt cheap and the door panels rattled like nuts when the volume was turned up but not by a lot and no rear door speakers in a 40 K car I didn't realise until after I bought it. I'd say only for all those issues I'd probably still have it. But too much reliance on software and screens for basic functions, I won't be getting any car like that again.

Issues rarely prevent sales, look at the wet belt disaster from Ford, Stellantis ? the BMW timing chain issue in the past or the Audio Multitronic disaster ?

I's say the vast majority of car owners are not on boards.ie or any other forum.

Nissan and Renault has CVT issues, it didn't prevent people buying them.

People buy cars with the expectation that they will work without issues being new and having a warranty, but getting warranty work done and dealing with car dealers can be a pain in the ass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭ted1

being the top seller means a lot.

say they sold 500,00 car and there's 20 people complaining. so that is 1 complaint for every 25,000 cars

no lets take brand x and they have sold 100,000 cars and there are 3 people complaining, so that's 1 compliant for every 33,333 cars.

The point I was trying to make was that cars will sell whether they have issues or not, most people just care that a new car has warranty and know that any major issues will be fixed not thinking about the potential for there being huge issues with spares and time off the road. New doesn't always mean better, of course the owner won't have to pay but sometimes the inconvenience is a major issue people don't think about.

Look at how many people bought wet belt cars ? I assume that even if the majority of new buyers were aware of the issue they still wouldn't be bothered and would have sold the car before it became an issue, perhaps deliberate by the manufacturers ? the point being, it didn't stop sales of cars with wet cam belts. Nor did Multitronic issues prevent Audi sales.

Kia/Hyundai's IMMU issue isn't preventing people buying the electric cars it effects, it sure as hell would stop me buying 2nd hand though, and the issues many had with the gearbox in the E-Niro/Kona and the wet belts, all cars I would avoid 2nd hand. Who would have thought the battery would be the most reliable part of the car ? lol.

All of these issues could perhaps have a dramatic issue on 2nd hand values. I do my research, maybe a lot more 2nd hand buyers do too considering many cars may be out of warranty.

The potential of living with software related issues is a major issue for me though, cars need to get back to being a lot more basic in my opinion.

Hi there, have a 2021 ID.4 and wondering if anyone has had intermittent very aggressive braking issues when coming to a stop at slow speed? Brake pedal becomes unbelievably sensitive at 2-3 kmph when stopping normally. Problem only ever happens when it’s raining. ABS does not kick in and there are never any red emergency brake warnings. Car has been in with the VW dealer 5 times now with no fault found. Water is clearly getting in somewhere where it shouldn’t. Anyone had this issue and found a resolution?

To me the frustration isn't that the car is having issues (it's a car, things break)

The thing I find annoying is that the local VW garage is populated by morons as far as I can tell. It's constantly a battle to get an appointment, then it takes weeks to get a part in and another battle to get a follow up, and inevitably the car isn't ready on time

The online booking system doesn't work, the support line from VW Ireland is never helpful, and there's never an offer of a courtesy car or anything.

I'm not saying every VW garage is bad, I'm actually going to try a different one next time the car needs a service. But this is one of the 4 VW garages in Dublin so there's a good chance most people will need to deal with them

By contrast, when I was dealing with Windsor Nissan with the Leaf the service couldn't have been more professional. Things got done when they were supposed to be done and they were proactive in keeping me informed along the way

Having a good support network is something I'd consider very important in buying a car and unfortunately I'm not convinced that VW in my area is up to scratch

I live in south Dublin and deal with VW in Wicklow for service items. We used them for work and their hourly rate was always cheaper than Dublin but the service was always far better. Only 25 minutes from south Dublin

Have the same thing happening in a 2024 model, only in wet weather and only at parking speed, the way I fix it is the next time I have a clear road in front and behind, I take off the regeneration braking and brake hard a few times, that usually fixes it, at least for a while until I have to repeat the process. Haven't bothered going to the dealer as they are totally useless

I used to have very aggressive emergency breaking on my 222 GTX until it had a software update at the dealer. Totally sorted it. Was very annoying before that.. reversing into parking spaces etc would kick in and give you whiplash. One time wouldn't let me reverse into the drive at home.. was lashing rain. Had to drive in.. just kept breaking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 JT-Kirk

Thanks for the tip, will give that a go. Car booked back in to be looked at again next week. The dealer said they will find it hard to recreate the heavy rain we had a week ago. I’ve offered them a loan of my garden hose. Will post any findings if there are any…

Anyone heard of a problem with an oil/fluid leak from the motor or gearbox maybe? Can't see much online about it but was talking to a mechanic who said there might have been an issue with a number of cars.

252 car. Locked it twice in past week. 10 mins later the VW App sends me an alert that i ahould park safely and I've left the car unlocked.

    Sure enough car is unlocked.

The door handles are very flimsy fir a new car. Fairly sure my 9 year old girl has damagd one already. Could be related.

Between that and the terrible key fob range not impressed with lock/unlocking here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,316 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

Oh yeah, mine has been doing thst except the car is locked in reality

I think the car sends out the alert after a minute or so of parking and after I lock the car it doesn't cancel

I feel like the last software update has made the range on the key much worse. I'm not getting the low battery alert so I don't think its that
