I’m having problems with the Daytime Running Lights currently which is booked in to be sorted under warranty so have been doing some research and again out of warranty this would be an expensive problem to sort. Gone are the days of popping into Halfords to get a headlight changed and pay €8

Gone are the days of anything being repairable. It's probably a bad connection or a blown LED, but no they have to replace the whole headlight in most cases

same here. I never have seen this in any other car. My teenage daughter says. “ the seat is trying to kill me”

Audi etron and cupra tavascan, both vw group cars of course, both do this too

Apropos of nothing but we were talking about cars at lunch the other day and a French colleague informed me that the word étron (with the accent) in French means "turd" and the car is known as that in France.

What's the French for turd? Merde?

That quote is from an indy. I'd be afraid of what a main stealer would quote.

Anyone else get the latest OTA update last night? Took about one hour on my ID.4 1st and seems to have gone through ok.

updates and bug fixes for the doors and charging behaviour

-improves the reliability of the door functions, even under fluctuating weather conditions. Your authorised workshop will contact you after the update has been completed to make further adjustments. Without this update, malfunctions are possible in case of wetness. Additionally, the driver message for the closing mechanism enables your authorised workshop to identify the relevant door, so that you can receive even more targeted support.

-display of child lock. In the past, a driver message for the child lock occasionally remained, even though the problem no longer existed. With this update, the display now disappears automatically as soon as the function works properly again

-reliable AC charging. In some cases, the charging capacity unexpectedly dropped during AC charging. This update ensures that the charging capacity is automatically restored.

-this update does not increase the displayed version of the ID software

I got a notification for an update while driving yesterday but I didn't get the option to apply the update after I parked and nothing seems to have changed

I guess the car didn't proceed with the update for whatever reason

I'm on 3.8 on the older hardware, I'd quite like the door update as I've noticed one of the handles is getting flaky. I think it's to do with the child lock and hopefully not a more permanent failure

Hi guys, does anyone know if the ID.4 needs a transmission fluid change?

I got the break fluid changed at around 120k but no mention of transmission fluid change needed then.

I cannot see anything in the service schedule and there's mixed opinions online.

Maybe check with a garage that specialise in EV repairs like John Earls in Arklow ? VW will likely just tell you it’s lifetime sealed or some other crock until it goes bang I expect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 13,316 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

    It has a transmission?

There's only one gear in the motor and the whole thing is sealed, I'd say any oil in there is meant to last the lifetime of the motor

Now, who wants to guess how long that will be? 🤔

Yes but more accurately described as a single speed reduction gearbox. I’d very surprised if it doesn’t have a drain/fill hole on the underside ?VAG/BMW etc. have the same stance with ZF auto gearboxes on their high end models, lifetime sealed yet ZF recommends ATF fluid changes.

Mine is updating now. I really hope it improves the doors. It can take two or three pulls on the inside handles to open the front doors.

Just wondering if anyone has seen this, I have a ID.4, if you are coasting up to a roundabout. If you don't come to a full stop and the roundabout is clear, sometimes when I try to accelerate I get no power. I can have a few second delay and then I get power. Can be 2-3 seconds and then it just kicks in.

Maybe not the best description but best one I can think of. It's random as well.

Brought it back to garage and they never heard of it before. They ran tests, got reports from car and sent to VW. VW have come back saying the car needs software updates and I need to drop in for 2-3 days with VW

Now the software on the console is all up to date apart from the newest one as I havent had a hour to let it update but this seems to be updates on the motor etc. Just seeing if anyone has issues? I am typically in B mode all the time as that is how I drive

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,907 ✭✭✭hold my beer

No I've never had that happen and I'm on my 2nd ID4. If I'm coasting in B mode, the car would be slowing, and as soon as I hit the accelerator it goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 715 ✭✭✭TheWonderLlama

Yes, I have had it happen to me as well. I thought I was going mental as couldn't find any mention of it anywhere.

Happens when you are on the brake and switch quickly to accelerate.

I have a workaround in that when it happens, lift off the accellerator quickly and then depress it again, then it goes ok.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭JeanRasczak

Yes thats it. I think I done the same a few times as well. It shouldn't happen so at first I thought it was just me but the more it happened the more I felt it was something up.

Anyway seems like VW have seen something and have to bring it in.

    Hello, quick question.

I have a 2021 ID4. The doors are often annoying on it, hard to open (from outside and inside) but normally work in the end.

I ran an update last week and the next day this warning light appeared on the dash and here:

    PXL_20251016_223920817.MP.jpg

The central locking on the car seems to be working from what I can see.

Any idea what's wrong here or how to fix it? I'm planning on selling this car in the nearish future so don't want anything to not be working with it but also don't want to pay a lot to VW to fix it.

There was another update yesterday that mentioned locks I think but it did not fix it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

When I saw your post first I had done about 50k in my iD3 and had never happened to me. Though my wife had described something similar once.

Then yesterday I had it happen on my way into a roundabout. Pressed accelerator and little or no power. Pressed again all fine. Very strange. It must have a very particular set of circumstances for it to happen given the rarity.

I had the same issue on my last ID4. It didn't always happen but sometimes the accelerator would not respond for a second or two after coming into a roundabout. Seems to be when I wouldn’t come to a complete stop entering the roundabout. This was in D mode. It was a 232 but it hasn't happened to me on the newer model. I wonder if it's something confined to the older motor?

I actually mentioned it to the dealer and they were letting on it was some sort of safety mechanism kicking in with the car thinking someone might have pressed the accelerator rather than the brake. It wasn't happening often enough for me to bring it in to have a look at but when I had it in for something else they couldn't diagnose a problem and were saying it was working as intended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,378 ✭✭✭KCross

Happens when you are on the brake and switch quickly to accelerate.

I’ve seen the issue a few times too and I think it’s exactly that ^^

The computer probably thinks you still have the brake on so it won’t deliver power in that case and the software update is likely to just change the timing so it reacts quicker.

    Hi there,

Currently in a 221D 77kw ID4 (around 85,000km on the clock) and thinking about changing, either up a few years or on to something different. What experiences are people having so far with the cost to change for say a new ID4, are you looking at €20k cost to change? For those who are considering or have moved to another car what did you go for in the end and how did it compare with the ID4?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 56 ✭✭JeanRasczak

    Thats it

It's random and doesn't happen all the time but I have now got kinda an expert at making it happen :-)

Dealer ran all the reports, VW must have spotted something because they want it in

When I was explaining it to dealer they looked at me like I had 10 heads but I have driven electric cars too long and knew something is up.

Some good news stories here of vw dealers giving good trade ins to keep people with the brand. Not sure how other brands are viewing id4 trade ins these days.

20k is probably ball park alright, remember the id4 is a cheaper car now than it was in 2022 so price for yours might not seem great but its all about cost to change really

I recall one poster getting a good price with a very low milage car. I contacted a large number of dealers to come up two years from a Life to a Pro Plus. My car had around 70,000 km at the time. IIRC, the best price I got was 19k for a pre reg. Most were asking for 20k, with one dealer looking for 26k. I didn't need finance so they may give a better deal for PCP. My car is a 231
