⬆️ How can you share the ‘Comms’ video with mates via WhatsApp?

Do they need to be on Twitter in order to open it?

    TIA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,224 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Just share the link. They don't need to be a twitter user as far as I know.

A few sites can download the video to your phone.... most have annoying adverts though.

Didn't realise Oldman was a United fan.

Must watch the full episode, this just popped up on Facebook.

I must say I'm surprised at this, hopefully the club can help him improve.

📊 Patrick Dorgu compared to other Premier League fullbacks this season:

    • Most offensive duels won
    • Most key passes
    • Most touches in box
    • Most fouls suffered
    • Most duels per 90
    • Highest chance creation ratio

    (via DataMB)

the “highest chance creation ratio” surprises me a bit.

But maybe he’s a wingback with more licence to attack and he’s being compared with traditional fullbacks with wingers in front of them

Yeah comparing a wing back (even a middling one) to a full back for things like touches in the box, chances created and fouls suffered is a bit misleading.

Am I the only one who sees those "Comms" anti-humour?

Just find the goalkeeping issue fascinating in the two games.

It's been a genius move by Amorim to be ultra conservative when the ball is at Lammen's feet. It's basically Packie Bonner stuff. But it takes away all the pressure and really minimises the risk of a big mistake.

The second thing is that we just launch every kick long and the world as we know it hasn't collapsed in on itself. We still make as many chances but reduce the risk of turnovers in our final third. Hope to see it again on Saturday but with Sesko up front.

Long balls from the keepers, and long throws causing goals. Give it big jack til end of season

Among all of Slots moaning on Sunday evening about us playing in a low block and playing "long balls" there was a great stat of long balls played :

    Manchester United 93

    Liverpool 85

Playing more direct is popular right now. In general I'm enjoying PL games, not just United games, much more this season because less teams are playing the passive possession game.

It took a while but teams have copped that goals win games not possession. A goal from a long ball is just as valid as a goal from 40+ passes.

Long balls and low blocks is where it's at. We should just get back to 442 and pretend the last 30 years hasn't happened.

but the opposition also can't score during your 40 pass move.

Passing isn't just about creating, its about reducing the opportuninty for the opposition to attack or try to control where they can attack from.

A long ball has a high chance of losing possession and if you lose possession you increase the chance of the opposition scoring. thats just a fact.

We mitigate that though, on our part, by the number of defensive players so that losing the ball of a long pass doesn't create an immediate transitional problem - and vs Liverpool we effectively let them win the first ball and swarmed the second, which worked well in the first half. less so in the second.

I think that style also works best against teams like Liverpool, Arsenal, City - even Chelsea. Maybe less so Newcastle cause their physicality is off the charts - but any team that tries to play their own way and dominate against it, this will have a decent chance of working.

Against 'smaller' sides who may sit in, invite us on and look to hit us on the break - it won't work as well, imo. We will need to be able to play more, move the ball better and manipulate their positioning with controlled possession and movement more.

Jamie Carragher actually gave Amorim huge praise on last night’s MNF for his long ball from the keeper tactic aimed at getting bodies in around the area the ball was landing to win the second ball. Quite a few chances came off of it.

so we've basically bought Sesko to be our Niall Quinn.

I don’t know where you’re getting that from since Sesko didn’t even start the game. And obviously the tactics for Liverpool at Anfield won’t be tactics for every game.

It was good analysis showing us getting bodies in a narrow space.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,299 ✭✭✭Charlie69

It was… and it worked very well and as Carragher said Amorim deserves credit for it.

Sure, and to not play him while applying those tactics. Genius.....or maybe

If you watch closely Mbuemo barely ever even challenged for headers, and as they pointed out on mnf nobody was running on or getting around for flick ons. What they were doing was getting set up to win second balls, shoving a defender forward into midfield while the ball was in the air so that when pool head it back we had an overload there.

We do want our management to game plan for specific opponents don't we? Short passing v pool at Anfield playing from the back, nope that's a recipe for disaster. Winning the first contact aerially? Could work but your up against two of the better defenders in the league at winning aerial duals so maybe not optimum.

Play long to a decoy attacker who's role is to pull defenders out of position and make sure they don't have free headers to increase the possibility of the ball being aimlessly headed towards the middle of the pitch where we have created an overload? Glad we gave it a go.

"People say ‘go with the flow’ but do you know what goes with the flow? Dead fish."

That's because it's literally a core tactic of other teams to manipulate Utd into situations where they pass to him as the free man. Opponents view him as an offensive weak link for us. Somebody talked about this on a tactics podcast a few weeks ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,935 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Amad has more touches than him when played at WB though. When we have played both, the ball has still gone to Amad more.

I think it is more simply that our tactics are designed to put the wbs in offensive positions, rather than the opposition defenders are forcing that.

As for this being talked about, when I have seen it talked about it that Dorgu or Dalot shoudnt be getting the ball in dangerous positions because they aren't good enough, which is kinda fair. but no one gives out about Muniz getting the positions for Palace. the goal of the tactic, in general, is to create wide overloads with the WBs. We aren't terrible at doing that. but we can't give our tactics any credit. it has to a failing instead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 576 ✭✭✭Seattle

Well both things can be true.

We actively try to get the ball to Amad more. But the opposition often has a pressing structure that attempts to manipulate us in a way that makes it more likely that the ball ends up with Dorgu in the attacking third. This doesn't always succeed, hense Amad sees plenty of the ball. But it's their intention, and there's many times in each match where Dorgu gets the ball in a promising position only to inevitably end up achieving some low grade outcome like a corner or get the odd free kick.

It is also fair to say that the wingbacks seeing a lot of the ball in the final third is a product of the system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

It's probably more a by product of the abilities of both our wing backs, Amad is one of or best players in build up, he is able and willing to get possession in tight areas and this enables him to link with players around him better, all teams pressing structures now are designed to squeeze the sides of the pitch so when we can recycle the ball better as we can on amads side the switch of play is on to dorgu more often and he has the pace to really take advantage and get into good attacking areas over someone like dalot.

Dorgu has a lot of great qualities for a wing back, they allow him to get into good areas because of that but he is still very raw when the opportunities arise.

But no team wants an opposition player to have all that space and time on the ball in dangerous areas no matter how poor they might be

Looks likely we will be getting 40m or so for Rashford this summer. Can only help the funds for MF and more.

Which is great, let's hope he keeps pulling out performances like that, get as much as we can so Barca don't lowball us after the loan.
