Yes it was nice today in the south west. Chilly in the morning but milder in the afternoon. Calm and dry which is all I'd want in October. A bit overcast, but the only time I'm greedy for sunshine is summer and even then I'll settle for calm and dry as this is Ireland. Just keep away the wet and windy, please weather gods 🙏

This anticyclonic gloom is giving me flashbacks to late October/early November and December last year. I don't mind though as I was seriously fed up of the September rain and showers.

We need more sunshine. Still, better than the wind and rain.

Is anticyclonic gloom becoming more common?

Yeah it’s not the worst but still a bit bleak. Sunny days and chilly nights would be a nice change.

Feels very chilly today in Meath, only 11C, dark and cloudy, maybe a little bit of inversion going on. Upper air temperatures are high for the time of year but certainly here at the surface it ain't mild.

Dry day and grand but more of an early November feel, 11c in Portlaoise and the dullness.

I think it’s definitely becoming more common with warmer sea surrounding us. October used to be associated with foggy nights in anticyclonic conditions but not any more. If Keats was alive today I don’t think he would have wrote ‘Ode to autumn’ which was written in the Little Ice Age.

This summer wasn’t particularly sunny but it was warm with <20 achieved most days in cloudy weather which is the direction our climate is heading in my opinion.

I am loving this weather. Dry and cool with beautiful Autumn colours. I hope we get this weather at Halloween too.

    Our radar will soon improve.

During this period, the number of weather radars will increase from two to seven to improve monitoring of rainfall in key areas across the country and forecasting accuracy at national and local level.

The current radar network, which consists of two weather radars, located at Dublin and Shannon airports, does not provide the level of coverage required to meet current and future needs.

To improve the network, Met Éireann is seeking to install five new weather radars, at locations in Roscommon, Cork, Kilkenny, Donegal and Meath.

Met Éireann has lodged a planning application for the construction of a new weather radar tower in the south of the county.

The proposed galvanised steel structure, at Loughfad, Pettigo, will be 30 metres in height and 8 metres in diameter. According to documents lodged with Donegal County Council, the tower will include a radome located at the top to house sensitive radar equipment.

The application stated the new radars will ‘significantly enhance’ the accuracy and reliability of weather and climate monitoring across the country.

It will also see the installation of a solar photovoltaic (pv) array consisting of 24 solar panels on a fixed ground-mounted frame. Access to the structure will be via a new road off the existing forest haul road.

I think this current weather is amazing for October. The lack of rain this week has been a godsend.

I was outdoors all day yesterday and it wasn't a bit cold, so so mild, who cares about lack of sun, its October!

I just hope its dry for once at weekend because we have been unlucky last two weekends with rain.

I'm in for a shock when the real cold comes.

Not a breeze in Salthill yesterday at the deferred running event pushed out from Storm Amy.

Dull, still, cool, calm here in Meath now.

I know it's been relatively dry but this endless cloud is rather depressing.

If it wasn’t for the beautiful coloured leaves on the trees it would be more even more depressing.

Feels really cold today in Cork. There's a dampness in the air that wasn't there last few days. Just goes to show uppers mean little in this kind of setup. Give me mobile weather anyday compared to this

Extremely dull here. Over this past 7 days Malin head has recorded 1.4 hours of sunshine.

Nondescript day here at home. It's dry is the main thing for me.

This fella was hiding from me this afternoon!

Yesterday was a peach of an Autumn day here in Kerry with good clear skies in the afternoon and nice low sunshine, today calm and overcast with a few glimpses of sunlight and the rare sight of a few slivers of blue sky like the pic below just a few mins ago. Mild enough getting just over 15C and a pleasant 13.3C now.

Quite chilly and dull both yesterday and today in Arklow - no wind though.

From memory the first few weeks of October 1989 had a lot of weather like this, anticyclonic gloom, in the south, east and midlands. It became more unsettled after 20th October.

I remember schools and club cross country and various GAA matches, as a 13 year old, on days like this that year.

Sryan will know but pretty sure we had bad flooding in the North West at months end. 5/6 inches of rain in a week.

Sryan will know is a great get out clause if your memory isn't A1!!
