I saw that! I thought it was unwinnable! Brilliant performance. I think she had 7 seconds to spare, so any delays and she would have been toast. She was very fast with her answers too, which earned her a few seconds over the 26 questions.

Journalists take note. Seems worthy of FOI request.

    https://www.rte.ie/entertainment/2025/0529/1515590-2fm-hits-the-road-for-festival-season-2025/

Seems it will be relatively scaled back compared to back in the day, but good to see 2fm back at the festivals.

Their coverage of wittnness/oxegen and the early ep's was great. Shows would come from the site all day with lots of live sets and interviews. More of that would be great, tho I fear this year's shows will be more about festival "experiences" rather than the music.

Is this the main thread to discuss 2FM? Anyway... another A to Z winner.

well, for the past month or so I've been listening to 2FM a fair bit and I have to say I think its a hell of a lot better and cleaner than it used to be. I got fed up/depressed by my long listening to Current Affairs programs, felt spin was too noisy and repetitive and TBH nobody on Today FM appeals to me anymore so I just listened to pods from around may till august which was why i stopped posting here as well. Needed some radio driving around on the holidays went to 2FM.

    The Good

Having each show listing 3 hours works. Drivetime show with Doireen is actually to me the best one out there, no shouting and she works very well on (mostly) her own. New Music show is great, and the early afternoon show on the weekend is very good as well, the presenters mix well.

    The not so good

The weekend morning show is a bit "you can open a can???!! oh mhayyyyy gaud! Fantastic" .Game On still veers from very good to appalling in presenter quality on any given evening.

    The bad

    The website/social media.

Whats the track of the week? They played it a few times yesterday, and for aul lads who cant remember you'd think its on the website. No. The Spotify Track of The Week? Not updated since 2020. The Twitter account? Not updated since August, only a few posts since March. Instagram? Nope.

There is someone running the Instagram account, cant that person not manage all of their SM?

Looks like Doireann managed to get back on the RTE gravy train just in time to go on maternity leave. Demi Isaac (?) and Mikey O'Reilly taking over Drivetime from tomorrow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,272 ✭✭✭its_steve116

Demi was in The Young Offenders.

Hugh Carr will be looking after weekend breakfast, while Helen Galgay and Benny Bracken are moving into Demi & Mikey's slot.

Demi and Mickey are awful and in different locations makes it worse.
I thought the breakfast wasn’t great but the current lot have made it worse. You’ve Carl and Aisling fighting over who’s trying to be the funny one but not funny at all.

I am so out of touch with 2FM. I don't recognise any of those names apart from Doireann.

I enjoy Doireann and Hugh and Taireann on drive

The other two replacements I've heard a few times, they're dire

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 290 ✭✭Chun the Unavoidable

As i said above, i found Demi and Mikey good for the show they do Sat/Sunday afternoons, but there is a world of difference in carrying that "who cares" slot which is fun filled backgound noise mostly and the Drivetime slot. Hopefully then Doireann comes back from ML she will be back in there, she has been the best presenter of it in years.

It does not really make much sense to make these changes for a few months. The JNLR results will be met with

"You have to remember that we need things to settle. 2FM has had two changes over the last 2 months and it will be bedded down in the next year, that's when we can really take a look at how things are going with the station."

Least its not Lottie - 40 in a few weeks - over a decade there and cant get a regular slot…youd be embarrassed if you were in her position

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭Danye

I’ve come to the conclusion that she’s content with what she’s doing. She’s better than some of the presenters currently on the roster. I would of thought she could take a presenting job if she really wanted.

There was no announcement who taking over 9 to 12 weekend slot probably going be rotating presenters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Bummer1234

Fergal D'Arcy was on it saturday wasn't he so say he will be there for the next while…Or he will be swapping around with others.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭Cmx95

Another winner of the A-Z quiz, which is basically the only thing I listen to on 2FM (I'm not obsessed, I promise). This time the guy was live in front of them, so there was no delay between Carl and contestant and you could really hear it. Big contrast with the quiz any other day; the gap between the end of the question and the person's answer is sometimes unreal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭Bummer1234

Yea, And wonder with him been in front of an audience on the day would he have heard murmurs of the answers…

I know from time to time on BBC Radio 1 do seem to do a facetime or whatsapp call to people, Its far clearer and id imagine the contestant would hear the question far better…You'd think they would use that nowadays….

I know they have those type of calls on Game on with guests…Just an idea.

With the news radio getting a sports show at 6 in the evening I wonder will game on be scrapped

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,208 ✭✭✭CardBordWindow

I was on Clockblocker ages back, and thought I had answered pretty quickly on some of the questions. On listen back there is definitely a bit of a delay. In person would 100% be advantageous.

Just to note Helen and Benny have been split to cover Demi and Mike. Helen is on mornings on her own and Benny is early afternoon on his own. Helen is quite the gaeilgóir which surprised me.

Is Afric O'Connell still behind the scenes in RTÉ or has she thrown her lot completely with The 2 Jonnies?

    This too shall pass.

why dont 2FM play an hour of well known 70s / 80s / 90s hits during this spare hour as a fun diversion from their new music playlists ? like a golden hour or something for commuters on the way home or those making the dinner ?

There does not need to be a presenter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,084 ✭✭✭RoTelly

They do a golden olds on Tracy Clifford's show. On several occasion I have switched over to 2FM to hits from the 90s.

IMO 2FM should aim for its hits from the past to come from 2010 to 2020, with 80% of music in the last 5 years.

Any older songs would have to have been a new version of an old song or a song by Irish Artists. 20% of all music should be from Irish artists, while they should aim to have some live music 5% of output?

2fm should grow up to be young.

If you want an indication of what 2FM listeners prefer, there was a vote this afternoon on whether to play Joe Smooth's classic "Promised Land" or some relatively non descript dance tune from the early 2000s which I hadn't heard before and can't remember what it was called, who sang it or what it went like.

Joe Smooth got 15% of the votes.

So I doubt there's much appetite for music from pre 90s

I liked Helen the other morning on her own, She was very good and then Benny on his own is very good also,

Always found it strange to be on the commute home and go from Bounce with Doireann to playing maniac 2000 to alot calmer talking show about sport. Don't get me wrong I like Game on but think its more suited on Radio 1 myself.

Did they ever give the jnlr's for Game on?
