I must say, Jerry handled it like a real pro… didn't miss a step and just gave a short summary of the forecast. Luckily it's pretty settled for the next few days so nothing too important was missed.

I always found his presentation very precise, level headed and professional. He's one of the old school.

He is definitely one of the best.

On a different note, and this has probably been mentioned before, but could they give the forecasters another minute or two. It all seems so rushed and doesn't give them time to catch their breath.

Agreed. The forecasts on RTE have become so rushed with all the new graphics having to be covered in the original allocated time slot, they have lost some of their clarity and directness. Too much clutter now.

Must say I've given it a chance but I can't warm to the new RTE forecast. It's so micro detailed and busy that you can't see the wood for the trees. Why did the outlook period reduce to 3 days? I'm inclined now to rely more on Cecilia on BBC NI for my forecast. Pity, because it was so much better.

Agreed I don't like it at all and going around the counties at the end is just stupid why so many names even ones I never heard off ,I don't watch it anymore I have also gone to the BBC weather way more informative even though it's not for us .

What's the story with the forecast for Halloween evening and night. The forecast and graphics grind to a halt at 18.00. The rainband appeared to stop at munster and they breezed around the provinces until 17.00. Friday night wasn't even mentioned. No trick or treat forecast for the little ones 🫢

I see the WOW site is gone back to being at least an hour behind, some of the official stations are nearly an hour and a half behind.

The readings are there if you drill down into the sites but not on the front page. Almost useless. Probably gone for months again.

Caught snippets of debates on boards around Met Eireann vs certain independant forecasters around the country, not sure what sparked these. But I have little to no confidence in Met Eireann forecasts. It seems they are purposely befuddled, unclear, jumping back and forth between days, being way off on the forecasts.

Just really got me today as they promised a cloud and rain-free day today in Galway and it has been nothing but wet misery all morning… Seems they are just consistently and reliably way off the mark

Their forecast was for cloudy wet weather in your area.Below was posted yesterday

The forecast I saw was on Tuesday however. And regardless, it's too hard to follow their forecast. A quick google/accuweather/a quick glance at the horizon to be far more useful…

The forecast graphic on the app is hopeless. It so often disagrees with the radar. I have days where the graphic says rain all day & it's dry.

Should be an orange warning for the south today. Will they issue one as it evolves and it’s too late? Not only due to flood dangers, their own models suggest an orange.
I think Met Eireann have become more of a current conditions reporter than forecaster. They don’t go beyond a few days, they don’t give information on trends. They rarely name storms and leave it to the U.K. or Netherlands. They didn’t even name Storm Eoywn which was a disaster and primarily effecting Ireland.

one thing i think which could make the app more intuitive for many, would be to colour code the precipitation bars with the percentage likelihood.

this is what i currently see:

    Screenshot_20251111-105610.png

it's not particularly unusual today, but i have on occasion seen a high precipitation forecast being given a less than 50% chance; but for many, they'll see rain forecast and then grumble that met eireann got it wrong; even though you could easily argue that specifying a say 40% chance, they're saying it's probably not going to rain.

maybe the precipitation bars could be colour coded for the percentage chance? light blue for 'slightly possible' up to dark blue for 'near certainty'?

I mentioned this in my post in the Autumn thread for the Carrigaline Co. Cork area. Met earlier said no rain but it was raining. It has been updated in last short while.

We were wondering about that here - yesterday it was forecasting heavy rain this evening. This morning, it was not forecasting it - but it arrived anyway.

The yellow warning is a joke yellow for Cork and just look at Galway on the radar it's lashing here and nothing.

Forgive me @Storm 10 but are you familiar with the criteria for issuing warnings?

Anyone know why Met Eireann refuse to acknowledge the existence of drizzle? Place could be sopping and they'd pretend its dry on their apps and website.

I understand it might not show up on radar, but they're not stupid and neither are we. They can still report on it and forecast it. We have the technology.

When did Met E update their rainfall radar display? Is changed for me this morning?

May have noted an issue with the MET E site and app at the moment. Alan of carlow weather among those who have:

"I’ve called Met Éireann and they say they are aware of issue with their app and website auto forecast and are working to fix it. For example Roundwood in Wicklow under orange waning for rain tomorrow but current site forecast is below. Hopefully will be resolved quickly."

Auto forecast on the website seems to go from 0 to -0 back to 0 again. Am i missing something there?

it's been like that for years. i assume it's just whether it's rounding it to 0 from higher or lower than 0.
