Reports (Chris Wheeler & Nathan Salt) that Zirkzee could look to leave the club in January. Wasn't called up to the Dutch squad last week.

A loan would be best on the off chance we get Europe next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,407 ✭✭✭caviardreams

Hard to see Zirkzee getting any real gametime with the number of fixtures

He seemed a player who also needed a run of games to get sharpness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭talla10

I don't really rate Zirkzee I don't think he has the ability to score or create the number of goals we need. Another poor signing from the Ten Hag era. Hopefully he can move on in January to reignite his career elsewhere

I'd rather Chido Obi starts getting more time with the senior team 3 goals in 6 games for the U21's so far one for the future hopefully.

Should loan him out with a clause option and hope they can at a minimum break even. Use the money to get a proper no.9 as backup.

A broken clock is right twice a day and he was the first one to go public about Baleba. Supposedly Newcastle don't have a buy back clause for Anderson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,902 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

He's not really a striker, and we're well stocked for number 10s.

Plus Zirkzee hasn't been overly impressive. Not sure he's very suited for the Premier League, plus likely to get a few quid in for him.

Need a proper no.9 as a back up (or just put Obi in the first team squad)

Easy to write fanfic. The odds of Bruno leaving have to be getting higher in each window.

and Baleba and Anderson are the two most likely candidates (2 of 3 if we include Wharton in the list) to be brough in - and with Casemiro very likely to leave we will need two CM signings regardless. If we sell bruno we maybe need 3 tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 496 ✭✭GolfPar

It would have been better for the squad to get rid of Zirkzee and keep Hojlund in the summer. Maybe not financially but in terms of squad depth and having 2 strikers competing with each other.

Ugarte, Mainoo, plus 2 QUALITY signings for the central midfield should suffice

Bruno will be 31 or 32 next season right, probably the correct time to move on a #10 really, especially with Cunha and Mbeumo younger.

Wingbacks too please. If they can get 4 signings next summer, and it's 2 midfielders and 2 wingbacks, it will be another good window.

Open Heart Surgery takes time, and you can't correct every squad deficiency at the same time.

Rumours of Mainoo wanting to leave is all over the UK tabloids today

Hopefully just clickbait, but hasn't Mainoo been pushing for a higher salary for a while now? If he's offered it somewhere else he may well go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,902 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Anyways, the window doesn't open for 3 more months. They need something to fill the papers during international week.

We'll have a better idea in January on whether Amorim and his system will stay or go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,936 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

He has been pushing for a high salary, but I do honestly think his playing time is the far bigger issue. World Cup year and he sees no viable path to playing good minutes to put him in the international picture.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 496 ✭✭GolfPar

Let's be honest, he hasn't been given much of a chance by Amorim this season. You wouldn't mind if the other midfielders were pulling up trees with their performances but they're not. The contract is one thing (he is due a new contract if the club wants to keep him) but I'd imagine he is more interested in playing football at the moment.

Maybe if he was Portugese like Dalot there would always be a place for him in the team.

he's up against Bruno who's basically undroppable. Amorim is fighting to save his job, if the team are playing badly Bruno is still the best hope of a goal and as others have mentioned, we've no midweek games.

And Bruno as a CM is an area teams are actively exploiting.

And he didn't even need to drop him. Could have played him at 10 instead of Amad (and kept Amad at RWB) when Mount/Cunha were out. meaning you still have heroic Bruno to save you, and you are showing Mainoo it won't always be bruno at CM.

    But nope.

We'll lose Mainoo cause we can't do anything but play Bruno at CM for 99% of relevant games, where he isn't even really playing well. Brilliant. Just BRILLIANT.

Two goals last weekend that didnt involve him. One touch in the box. Fewer overall touches than Casemiro. For too long we have said Bruno is undroppable due to his goal involvements. However it is becoming increasingly evident that his presence hinders other, as he doesn't fit his position in the system. Either he plays 10, or doesn't play for me. In fact I would not mind seeing the below get a go

    Lammens

    Yoro Deligt Heaven

    Amad Casemiro Mainoo Dorgu

    Mount

    Mbuemo

    Sesko

Sure we'll likely lose Mainoo still if Bruno leaves and the club actually splash big money on Baleba and Anderson.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,916 ✭✭✭Robson99

Holding onto Ugarte and letting Mainoo go will be criminal, but typical of the **** show that we have

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,936 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

i think you would have an easier time rotating between those three to be honest. you could pick any two and it would work, and the choice of two could be form and opposition dependent.

There is no club he could realitically go to (big club) where there won't be competition for a starting spot.

The issue, imo, at united is there is no competition for the starting spot. Bruno has it. Amorim won't take it away from him for any reason.

Mainoo was awful when he came on the last day he got caught 3 times in 20 mins leaning the midfield wide open if he wants to play he needs to take his opportunities, against brentford he cost us the third goal and gave up chasing back on that goal.

And people think he should just be given minutes he needs to take his chances and put in effort if he can't do it for 10 mins he certainly can't do it for 90

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,936 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

but when he came on agaisnt City he was one of our better players, didn't start the next game. As he has been in other games as well. Bruno cost us goals vs City, vs Fulham, starts every single match. Bruno doesn't have to put in 90minutes to play. Bruno didn't put in 1 minute vs Fulham, started the next pl game.

If he isn't given a chance to build any game rythm it is going to be hard.

And I dont think Mainoo is suited to being THE defensive player because he doesn;t have the intensity for it as your example vs Brentford - needs to be played as the 8 with a defensive player beside him (just like we are doing with Bruno)

Seen this comment on reddit and it pissed me off so much

Ten Hag get rid of De Gea and Dean Henderson and brought in Onana and Bayindir, let that sink in.

    😭

I just can't see Amorim outlasting Mainoo, he just needs to be bide his time and we will be back to playing 4-3-3 / 4-2-3-1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,874 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

ETH transfers sent us backwards. Amorim has done well to address thongs. He just cant actually manage a match/tactics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

Well if he can't take his 10 minutes chances and actually be able to run and press and position himself properly on the pitch he has no business starting a match, sure he looked decent when city were sitting back and was the only player able to operate in tight spaces but there is so much more to that in midfield.

He is still very young his time on the pitch needs to be earned and not given to him and he needs to start showing it every time he plays.

He also stopped sprinting back at one stage for that Brentford goal which is again not good enough effort wise, whatever about losing the ball with a sloppy pass track back and make up for the mistake.

We should have let Kobbie out in loan when he asked.

Not it seems like he's pissed off and might want a permanent move.

Bruno is totally blocking him getting a run, but when he has come on he hasn't really impressed. But I'd not be at all susprised if Bruno moves in the summer so it'll come down to whether the clubs sees a future for Mainoo in the post-Bruno era or not.

I will be surprised if we buy 2 CMs next summer. We badly need them but we always seem leave this area short every season

    EVENFLOW

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,710 ✭✭✭Caustic

We couldn't really let him go on loan either or if we had we were would be one Bruno injury or suspension away from only having two mods, if we had another senior mid he probably would have been let out on loan or maybe the manager was hoping to see more from him this year.

There is a good chance Bruno goes next summer and the spot is open for someone next year mainoo should be doing all he to be the one that takes that chance, learn everything he can and if he is good enough take the spot off him as the year goes on.

But he seems more worried about playing for England than his long term future at united, people give shaw **** for this but when it's mainoo its fine.

Also the leaks the club isn't leaking all this if it's true it's coming from the players side people have a problem when other players do it but not mainoo.

There is a wild hypocrisy from fans about this player and sure he looks really tidy on the ball but he should be concentrating on doing his best for the team that pays his wages and his future at the club not England or leaking he wants a move for playing time

Tbh Mount is ahead of Mainoo also, I'd let him leave on loan in January.
